Youth is wasted on the young and young adults are easily manipulated. How else do countries with volunteer militaries (and companies with exploitive practices) recruit enough people otherwise?

This is so normalized that it's mostly accepted as a rite of passage for each generation. That doesn't makes it good or desirable however.

I'm in an age gap relationship and my girlfriend is significantly younger than me but I wasn't looking for young women only and boycotting everyone else. She approached me and asked me out.

But I've dated women of different ages before and I dated a woman who was 7 years older then me at one point.

So I don't go for younger specifically but my current girlfriend just happened to be significantly younger and asked me out.

The opposite really. Believe it or not my GF is 25 years older than me. I seem to get on best with women 5-15 years older. Not that I'd necessarily rule out younger women if I was single.

That said of course it's an exception/outlier. I've had a couple of friends who were in their 30's, dating women in their early 20's.

I am a man. my dating tendencies are for women usually older than me. I'm 25 and I have had 18 y/o women interested or crush on me. I just can't do it. They make me feel grown af lol. They don't really know who they are yet. Still need some time to grow. I think the youngest I would go would be 21.

Have at it if an 18 year old wants to date you. That's not my business, but I think older men that exclusively chase 18 year olds are disgusting after being hit on repeatedly from the age of 12 on. As a guy who never had a serious monogamous relationship in my 20s with a girl since most of the hundreds of women I approached rejected me saying "they weren't looking for a relationship" I value prioritizing a relationship early on, and thus I'm open to dating young women who seek relationships.

We have similar values. It's not about looks or anything, it's about priorities and values.

My first serious relationship was when I was 19/20 and the guy was around 30. The reason? Not my preference for older men. Just simply that:

He was amazingly well-matched with me. He was the sort of partner I needed. We just connected strongly, like we were made of the same cloth.
He was THE YOUNGEST person in my life at the time anyway. My friends were 40-60 years old. There were just no people my age who had the same lifestyle or who could relate to me. That only changed in my mid-twenties. So to me, he was young. Not to mention that neither of us knew each other's age. Nobody asked or cared, to me he looked like he could have been in his mid 20s and I looked like I could be early to mid 20s too.

I'm not very far off eighteen still and I've never really felt like a gap of more than three years max either way would appeal to me. Like I just wouldn't see someone that age as an option to be attracted to or not, they're not in that mental zone. Even if I have friends who are up to a couple of decades older the relationship we have is different and wouldn't be conducive to a romantic relationship. Generally I've been into people within a year of my own age.

I tried chatting with much younger women who were still in college when I was in my early 30s. They were attractive but lacked maturity and common cultural references. My wife is five years younger than me. That’s good enough for me, we have much more in common, and we are at similar maturity levels.

This is why I think that most of the older men who pursue younger women just want sex rather than something that is actually serious and meaningful.

And given your example of 18 and 25, yeah the fertility and physical appearance difference might be slim, but the baggage difference can be very very significant.

I can’t speak for any other men interested in younger women, but for me it’s about the specific relationship dynamic. I’ve learned that I’m what people might refer to as a “soft daddy.” I’m calm and nurturing and enjoy caring for people, giving advice, and teaching. I like being in an “authority” role, not to manipulate or abuse, but to help and guide. I like feeling needed and receiving real adoration from a woman, even feeling like a “hero” sometimes. In my experience there’s just no way to get that dynamic with an older woman.

Some people want to always benefit, regardless of logic or reason.

When I was 18-20 I preferred boys my age. Now I prefer younger boys.

Do you not think that rather, most men who have a good pick of the marketplace on dating go with whatever willing women are available as long as those women are attractive and below a certain threshold, say 30-35?
