Seems accurate for the general population in the West. I do wonder about college campuses though, and about college-educated people in general. Based on anecdotal evidence and stories, it seems like they are the most promiscuous and have the most sexual partners. Since I’m college-educated myself, that’s who I like to compare myself to.

What's interesting here is less the specific numbers (tho those are interesting), and more how similarly they are aligned with men and women, who as I have frequently hypothesized, in the real world aren't so different after all.

For all we know, Louisiana's 'average n-count' is based on 5 respondents (quite plausibe actually, since 9 states failed to reach that ridiculously low bar)

The methodology sucks. 2000 sounds like a lot of people, but if isn't a representative sample even that doesn't mean much.

The results being quite surprising only shows that we shouldn't be trusting them at all.

I think the fact that Austria seemingly fucks more than Germany in this survey is the smoking gun for it being woefully under-sampled BS. Take Southern Germany and inject a ton of Catholic guilt = Austria. It should look more like Spain.

Doesn't specify age group. Discussion is surrounded on recent data showing the impact of online and app dating, not on boomers.
Data on caring about N-count. Why is this left out of OP? 30% of people explicitly care about high N-count. 33% are neutral. Only 37% of people say that don't care about N-count. Neutral can go either way, ignoring neutral, 30 / 67 = 45% of people care about high N-count.
The question on lying about N-count is likely about lying to anyone, not just their long term partners. There's no problem in people lying to random people about their N-count. It's really only problematic when lying to a trusted partner. The data doesn't give insight into lying to a trusted partner.
Lying down in N-count is much worse than lying up, as people care more about high N-count than low N-count.

I (38F) have had exactly 3 intimate partners in my life (one was just one interesting night), 4 if you count one person I had a form of sexual contact with once for like 15 minutes. I lived a very conservative, religious life growing up where celibacy before marriage was the overwhelming norm. I knew NOBODY that had had actual sex before marriage, I'd met a few people but nobody close. Anyways.

This is my take on this whole debate: if a person has a boyfriend per year for 20 years, starting sex at 15 (serial monogamy) that's 20 people at age 35. Throw in a couple of one-night stands and you've got 35 people. That seems totally normal to me.

I'm HL though, so that is probably skewing my take on promiscuity. However, here is my (maybe BP? maybe RP? not sure, I'm new) take on things.

WHO CARES how many people people have slept with. yah, probably BP, but wouldn't the only thing that matters at any given time be how a person makes you feel?
