There's a guy on TED who talks about it. He calls it hyperstimulus or something like it. The idea is that porn shortcuts the brain's natural reward system by creating images of an intensity which cannot be rivalled by the real world (i.e., real women). And then you train the brain to only be satisfied with the experiences in porn. And soon enough the addict will find little pleasure in anything but porn - and not really even porn.

Everyone seems to be jumping to exactly two conclusions: either the man is addicted or the woman is unattractive, but how many of you have actually been in this situation?

Assuming he's not totally giving up sex for porn and instead is sometimes forgoing sex and watching porn either instead or later, it's probably because sex can be exhausting. Not just physically but emotionally.

It's amazing, and fucking worth it most of the time, but it can take a lot out of you, especially if you're a "giver" type, or particularly dominant, or just like to go on for a while (I've never been good at "quickies", personally). Sometimes porn, the release without the effort, is appealing even if (or especially if) you have fantastic sex with a fantastic woman available to you on a regular basis.

Then there's the "something different" angle, we humans crave variety, and porn can give you that. If you take it with a grain of salt it can also give you ideas to try with your real human partner.

So, y'know, don't jump to conclusions.

Porn addiction is very very real. It may not compare to the love of a beautiful woman, but it's a helluva lot cheaper, more accessible and hassle free. I've seen guys who have no trouble getting laid get addicted to porn. Because when you stop and think about it, how many girls look like Malena Morgan or fuck like Riley Reid? That's a tough act for any girl to follow, even if you're only competing with a video clip.

Sex:

takes 40 min to 1 hour.

I think it really comes down to the fact that masturbating is quick and easy and is inherently stress free. If I get the urge to nut, I can just hop on pornhub, crank one out and be back to whatever I was previously doing within like 5 minutes. No stress, no anxiety, alone in my own privacy and solitude.

Whereas with sex, you kind of always have to be “on” so to speak. There is always some inherent stress for men in having to perform sexually. You have to get it up, keep it up, last long enough, have the right moves, make her cum, etc etc etc. It can be quite stressful. And if you fail at one of those things in front of your partner it can be a source of great embarrassment.

Well the porno girls on average are probably going to be more attractive than the wife and it’s in their minds not as bad as outright cheating on her and it’s a lot easier than cheating, don’t need to find a willing partner for one or worry about the wife finding out. More women will silently get upset but tolerate porn use than they will outright cheating.

I'd guess that it has to do with both men and women being fat. The fat men think sex is "too much work" or "physically exhausting". So for them it's easier to just watch porn. Which is kind of pathetic, especially if their wife is relatively attractive and not fat.

I can't blame a man for not wanting to fuck an obese woman, but I don't think this phenomenon is just because a significant proportion of woman are obese.

Why does it seem that, after years of daily viewing, pornographic tastes always escalate beyond "normal" sex to more niche categories? Including things that the viewer would not be interested in in real life? Because it's the novelty itself that hooks people.

Some women are not very sexually adventurous. Not very sexual experimental (in a mild sense) and never take the initiative when it comes to such matters.

I suppose she could be a beta bux who is a great wife/gf and gives him sex just not to the extent he lusts for.

Or it’s entirely normal as most men can do both. I’d say however an extreme addiction is far more likely with a partner who is blasé about his needs.

Multiple reasons. But the two main ones

1) man is addicted

2) woman is fat

Porn addiction is real. You basically trick your mind to release to multiple 10's at a time. So when you get around a very decent 7 you won't even want to do anything with her. It sounds like blasphemy but based on nofap communities we can tell it's true. Porn is really destructive in general and can even lead to PIED.

But you are also right. Some women are just overweight. That's not to say the man isn't overweight but I think physical looks matter more for a man in wanting to fuck a woman. In reality he's too chicken to tell the truth but also too chicken to leave the marriage. So he substitutes sex with porn.

In some cases, one aspect of it might be that the woman doesn't actually want sex very much, but she wants her man to want it. Maybe they have different expectations on the way they want it; she wants more things like him rubbing her back or playing with her hair. Maybe she plainly uses it as a transaction to get him to do the dishes.

But what are the details here? How often does she refuse sex? Does she expect him to do all the work? It seems to me that putting all the responsibility on the man for the woman's orgasm, which I read is often the case, is unfair.

But on sex vs porn, the man's libido is probably the most important factor. The lower his libido, the more appealing porn is going to be. Low libido decreases the energy available and the potential pleasure you can experience, so sex and masturbation are going to about as rewarding.
