There seems to be an idea now that societal contribution should be orthogonal to reproductive ability. This is a recipe to destroy society on two grounds.

  1. There is a finite amount of time and energy, and men have to decide how to allocate them. If looksmaxxing yields better results than building the next rocketship or semiconductor there's no motivation for men to spend time on the latter. Your countries standard of living will stagnate/decline over time as men shift their efforts towards what rewards reproductive success (being attractive to women) instead of innovation.
  2. Traits are inherited, people are not blankslates contrary to the liberal ideals. Failing to correlate reproductive success with societal contribution will result in genetic regression of the population. Genetic engineering may solve this, but I highly doubt you're going to be seeing it done anytime soon.

Hypergamy in moderation and channeled appropriately can be a good thing to drive society forward but we're seeing the opposite effect today and it's going to have serious longterm consequences.
