A study with 820 Gothenburg parents shows a poor sex life, as far as eight years after they had their first child. Both when the first child was six months old - and when it was four years old - the parents felt that their relationship had gotten worse, compared to how it was before. Now the researchers have followed up the families, and it turns out that the sex life and relationship is often surprisingly bad even eight years after the couple had their first child. On average, sex life has not improved but remains at a low level if you look at the average. The researcher behind the study, Tone Ahlborg at the Sahlgrenska Academy, says that it is surprising that those who have not had more children still have a bad sex life - even now that the child is as old as eight years old.

In general, all the parents in the study had sex on average 1-2 times a month. - It is an average figure, so many had sex less often than that, and some of course much more often as well.

Key point: 1-2 times per month.

Who is it that wants this frequency?

The study revealed some gender differences. On average, men wanted to have intercourse once or twice a week, while women thought it was enough to have intercourse once or twice a month.

Women wanted sex 1-2 times per month.

The study: "Quality of the intimate and sexual relationship in first-time-parents"

This means that the average couple will have sex 1-2 times per month for at least 8 years after they have a kid.

Is commitment still worth it for men?
