So I've never dated someone who made more than me. By chance, I've actually only dated people who made less than 1/3 of what I was making, because I don't care about that and just went for people I liked.

It always caused problems, in one case a breakup. The guys I've dated can't handle feeling "emasculated" by my pay, even when I don't care or bring it up. Me living my life and buying the things I wanted with my money has always led to insecurity, jealousy, or panic that I'm going to branch swing to someone "better". They couldn't handle me not "needing" them financially, and being with them because I want them.

Now I'm starting to be skeptical about how well things would work out with someone who, in your example, works for McDonalds. It seems like guys feel that their job is a major value-add in a relationship, and start worrying that without it, they're not good enough. Nothing I say or do seems to work to let them know that I value and cherish them regardless of money. It's sad but this insecurity has just wrecked pretty much all of my relationships.

If you read her other comments, that's exactly what's going on. Her friends are giving her games as a gift.
When you're friends with someone it's normal to surprise them with stuff. After I've wasted 40+ hours on FTL and raved about it to a friend, I gifted the game to them because I knew they liked games like that, and what's 5€ compared to giving your friend countless hours of entertainment and another thing you can talk about?
I've also been on the receiving end of this, and once in high school we even threw money together with friends to get a game for our mutual friend whose parents didn't get him a AAA game we wanted to play together.

Compare this to going out: when you want to go hang out with all your friends and one of them says "sorry, I'm broke", wouldn't you offer to buy them a beer so they can still join you?

I have already found multiple sources saying he is not part of Scientology, Scientology has said he is not a Scientologist, his wikipedia page says he is not a Scientologist, multiple lists of celebrities who are Scientologist omit his name.

He has given money to Scientology as well as Christian organizations. And I did find one list that had him as one of the celebrity Scientologists but there were multiple others that didn't. Is that enough? Can I have your evidence now?

Yeah exactly. This isn't just a black and white issue.

In a mature relationship, people set boundaries. IMO, it would be inappropriate for someone to try and "fill in the gaps" where I couldn't provide, at least when it comes to giving gifts that otherwise seem disproportional to the dynamic of the platonic relationship.

You don't just buy a girl in relationship jewelry, a new phone, that mixer she's always wanted. It could likely overstep boundaries that are already in place and could send the wrong signal. If this compromises that boundary then the offended individual has every right to be leery of it and discuss it with their SO.

Unless you are just readily affluent, the average person doesn't have the expendable income for the act of giving a gift (a gift enough to draw attention to itself) to not have a more nuanced undertone.

Personally I don't think the act of accepting the gift necessarily makes the recipient a transgressor, rather I tend to see the giver as the aggressor, but that street can obviously go different or both ways.
