As a woman, I can confirm this. I am more upfront than most girls, but often when I let it be known that I like a guy, he is shocked. I like really normal guys, the kind that hold your waist, keep you close and aren't obsessed with their looks.

I tell my boys that they look good or their outfits. I agree that mostly men dont get compliments, but maybe here in mexico its more common you know? I think it should be more often. Also, i think in order to recieve compliments, you need to have something to be complimened about.

The other thay, I was thinking about how much of a loser I am and that not a single girl has ever payed attention to me. But then I realised that that is not true. I remember some girls that were clearly interested in me but I was too shy and introverted to give the attention back so they usually gave up. And to be clear I am a very average guy (maybe below average). I am short (at the school I was 1,67m tall) , I use glasses, I had pimples in my face and had a mustache. Not the best combination hahahaha.

As someone that lifts (and I feel most of us that lift care a lot about our physical appearance just because we have started to invest so much more into it as a hobby) even though statistically and realistically I am better off and more attractive than most others, I never necessarily feel it or at least don't feel it as a point/advantage in my corner/arsenal because it never really gets told by others.

I generally go out of my way to tell my guy friends if they're looking good, more yoked, more lean etc etc.

It definitely adds a subconscious layer of confidence, ESPECIALLY if it happens regularly, which unfortunately for guys it doesn't.

Agreed. I mean I can appreciate a conventionally attractive man but I also like little things like having a cute smile or laugh. A guy that can make me laugh is also a huge turn on even if he’s not the most gorgeous person ever. I find lots of guys attractive for random things and I definitely don’t tell any of them.

It's really interesting that guys won't compliment each other. I try to do this as much as I can to my friends. We, as men, need to get over this mentality that caring for each other and showing it is taboo. I always compliment friends on little things like a nice watch or shoes or cologne or whatever. Even if it isn't my taste, it's worth it to add to their confidence. Especially when going out.

I just realized this the other day, I (16M) work as a cashier and the other day, I had a pretty cute girl come through my till who I thought was around my age. We talked and flirted a bit but ended up just carrying on with my job and her day. Fast forward a couple hours and she comes back, with a friend. We get to talking and a bit more flirting this time, at the end of it I was like "I better not see you a 3rd time" and she just laughed and blushed as she walked away. Fast forward half an hour and she comes back but with another friend and she hands me the receipt from the previous order and on the back was her phone number. Anyways I ended up texting her and she found out I was 16 and I found out shes 18 so we just decided to be friends because she didnt feel comfortable being with a 16 year old (totally understandable). That was a HUGE confidence boost!

TLDR: cute customer at work gave me her phone number without me asking

Yeah I’ve never considered myself good looking either but I dress really well. I get a few looks from women checking me out, it feels pretty good. Even if she’s just looking at my nice outfit, i take it as a compliment.

Yesterday I was feeling kind of down because I was thinking that girls usually don't have a crush on me. I'm really bad reading signs but in the past few years no one has never told me "Hey, my friend likes you" or "I like you". I'm not unattractive by any means. I consider myself to be a great guy. But from time to time this kind of things get to you because they ignite feelings of loneliness and self loathing. But it is impossible for a guy to not be desired by at least one girl. Perhaps it is the fact that you don't specifically know who is attracted to you what causes discomfort. What I'm aiming for is mutual attraction between me and the girls I'm genuinely attracted to (this has not been the case in the last few years but you got to deal with it and move on). If you are feeling down keep your chin up, buddy!

I think for the most part, you are right. Most average people are probably a bit more attractive than they think, and more people are attracted to them than they realize. But unfortunately, this isn't true for us all. I would bet my fucking life that NO ONE finds me attractive. My success rate at even receiving response on online dating apps over, say, the last 5 years, is literally in the single digits. And that's just getting a response at all. This sounds dumb but I even had to remove all of my real life pics off of Facebook because I was getting random messages and comments about how ugly I was. It's so fucking weird.

How true, I think sometimes others see it where you miss it also. My weakness I think is reading IOI's from women, I am pretty clueless about that actually. The other day I went to a coffee shop with my cousin to talk and help me get over my ex girlfriend. There were a group of young women at another table. After we left he was telling me" dude, did you see all those women? they were totally checking you out!" and I was like "no". Maybe I was still to upset about what my girlfriend did to notice.
