I got the old "You'll never work in this town again" bit so many times from coercive creeps.

Eventually I think my brain identified and neutralized the thing that was making the retaliation so injurious: my passion for my work. Without it, no one could hold anything over my head anymore when I refused to fuck them.

What made a lot of this worse was that most harassers had so-called "good intentions." Lucky me. When someone who typically treats women like shit decides you're "the one," hell hath no fury if you don't reciprocate. I didn't get acid attacks, thank God, but I put two men in jail for workplace stalking and hijacked the job of a third who tried to roofie me (I'm hard to sedate-- genetic quirk that runs in the family) and then had his minions harass me. I think one may have poisoned me.

My sudden apathy wasn't voluntary. I woke up one day and it's as if I didn't give a rat's ass about the thing (my career) that had driven my every waking thought up to that moment and that I'd fought so hard for. It left a massive hole in my life and it took years to rebuild a sense of meaning.

The media and bystanders are going to cast the attacker in this story as "mentally ill." If that's the case, then it's a dirt common form of mental disability-- entitlement-ism with mama's-bestest-little-prince features.

It's honestly concerning how I know 18 cases about women in UK who had acid thrown in their faces and I don't even live in thd UK. Are men there ok wtf?

I know it’s not the most evolved response, but if the court could hand down the punishment of the victim throwing acid on his face I would cry from happiness. I don’t know what the sentences are like in the UK but how long is he likely to get for this? 7ish? The poor bright young woman is scarred forever. He should be in for 10 in my opinion.

On a side note: This is a ‘cultural norm’ in Pakistan. There was a story a few years ago of a young mother and her toddler daughter being drenched in acid and the locked in a room for three days by….wait for it…. her mother in law because she wanted to get a divorce from her abusive husband (the attackers son).

Emergency first aid for a liquid acid attack: Call an ambulance or have someone else do it for you as you complete the next steps.

The most important step to take as a result of providing acid attack first aid is washing. This should be done with plenty of fresh or saline (salt) water. It is important to not wash the affected area with dirty water as this may cause a serious infection. This process may take between 30-45 minutes and should be conducted until the victim’s burning sensation passes. It is advisable to avoid using a hard spray of water as it may cause further damage.

If acid gets into a patient’s eyes, they should be run under cold water for at least 10 minutes – do not let a patient touch their own eyes as acid may be on their hands. All jewellery or clothing which has had contact with acid should be remove as one of the first priorities.

The individual treating the burn should avoid applying any cream or ointment on the impacted area – this may slow treatment by medical professionals. Indeed, applying an alkaline solution may in fact lead to a chemical reaction which causes a more impactful burn.

If possible, loosely cover the impacted area with sterilised gauze. This should help prevent debris and dirt entering the wound and contaminating it. Clingfilm (saran wrap) can also be used but this should be layered rather than wrapped around the affected area.

Most importantly for the patient’s long-term health – get to a hospital, ideally one with a ward specifically with a burns unit

I once watched a video about a MI5 interrogator who dealt with counter terrorism forces and she said watch out for self righteousness.....evil people will always find justification for the horrible crimes they commit.

For example insecure people feel ‘justified’ in abusing and attacking those they’re envious of bc they’re depressed about themselves therefore they’re the biggest victim ever and someone else must suffer their pain. When that is THEIR problem to control.

Entitlement is a huge red flag. It’s a warning sign that someone has anti-social traits. They think they’re ABOVE peoples boundaries. And if they don’t get their way- they will spite them instead.

Also safety tip : do not post places you frequent on social media. Block creepy men who harass & orbit you despite you having no interest. Best believe they are staking you and taking note. Don’t let them know where you live.

If you’re going to post tagged images- make sure they’re only at locations you don’t frequent (like a beach trip somewhere else) - and post hours after you have left them.

That way - they can’t track your movements.

This is why women REJECT these insecure bitter men. They can tell they’re mentally unstable losers.

This is actually a "cultural" punishment in some regions of the world (not gonna say which regions, you should be able to guess by now). Even before opening the article I knew what culture the man was from. This is why I don't understand when people blame women for being racist just because they don't want to date people from certain cultures. This whole acid-throwing is actually a threat in these cultures so they 100% know what they're doing. No need for mental evaluation. He is sane and qualified enough to know what he was doing, he did it anyway and he did it deliberately. Let him rot in jail
