Why does no one in the feminist movement simply ask: "hey, why don't we just ask non-abusive men why they aren't abusive and then compare life experiences of those men with the minority of men who are abusive? Why aren't the vast majority of men committing violence against women? Are there categorical differences between abusers and non-abusers that might hint at some tractable prevention strategy?"

Like at no point has anyone questioned why women are the only ones allowed to speak on the issue of male violence. They call it male violence and then define it exclusively from the perspective of women, you'd think the male perspective might be integral to understanding MALE violence. And while this ignorant projection continues, VERY solvable problems continue to propagate through the generations with absolutely ZERO acknowledgment.

I'm really starting to question whether or not the establishment actually WANTS these problems to persist.

This isn't a new tactic.

They bring up physical differences every time attempts are made to highlight the disparity of support and awareness of male victims of domestic violence, even male victims of rape. "Well, women are small and weak. Their violence is harmless so men can easily fighting them off".

Ignoring two facts:

1) Men aren't allowed to physically retaliate against an abusive woman without getting jumped by white knights or put in a jail cell.

2) There's the element of surprise combined with lethal weapons like bats, knives, and guns. Boiling water, too. Acid. The possibilities for women to inflict severe, life-threatening violent acts on a man are endless in lieu of their physical weaknesses. Failing that, there's violence by proxy; getting other men to do the dirty work for her.

Feminists: Men and women aren't different. It's all socially enforced.

Me: Male Victims

Feminists: Men are strong, they can fight them off. Women have it worse.

My experiences as a man are. When I've been attacked by a man they've only done it when they already know they can win. When women attacked me they didn't seem to care, or think about who would win.

“Educate your son” as if all sons are potential murderers. We have all been taught murdering is bad. That isn’t the issue. And they know it, but scapegoating an entire gender feels better. There are two types of people. Murderers, and non-murderers. Most men are, like most women, are more likely to be murdered than murder.

Also “when will women be safe” umm, last time I checked, it is men who are more likely to be murdered.

The idea that men can beat someone up or outrun them 100% of the time is completely toxic, sexist, and leads to a lot of people being killed or injured.

To frame women being socialized to correctly understand risks and men being socialized to make bad choices as somehow being sexist /towards women/ is absolutely absurd.

It's not a good thing to think you can "take out" a threat when you absolutely can't.

ehm no, it's not that simple. usually thiefs or aggressors are armed or outnumber the victim. more often than not the victim has not a safe option.

i have seen thiefs when they tried to enter my neighbour's house. i was alone, i had just finished a jogging session. they noticed me, they were armed with crowbars and they were way bigger than me. i couldn't scream or called the police because they would have hit me. when they noticed me they sayed me to stay calm and they run away. i had not the option to fight back or to call help. i don't know why those articles think that the average joe is john wick

The entire line of thinking in the article is wrong.

Yes, unarmed and inexperienced, a guy is likely to be less afraid of coming against someone they can't fight against.

No, most perpetrators aren't unarmed and/or inexperienced. It's not that difficult to brandish a knife, whether you're a man or a woman. Someone gutsy enough to attack likely has some kind of confidence backing them up. Outnumbering is also a common tactic (given, men have a little advantage here generally being better runners and likely not to wear clothing that would cripple their run speed).

The problem women have is predominantly overcoming a mental barrier / having a different psychological response (freezing up) and being ill-prepared. Not an inability to defend oneself due to physical differences. Most scenarios a random woman got attacked and would lose, so would a random man. The element of surprise is extremely powerful.

As soon as we end this child-like view that bad people can simply be taught not to do bad things, is when things will actually improve for women. (Putting aside that men are still attacked/murdered more often in public).

It's not a problem of education. Criminals know that their behavior is wrong and they simply don't care. Acting as if this is a general problem with men only creates more antagonism and does not engender people to your cause.

I wonder if this is why abusive relationships are so glorified. We seem to have a persistent belief that bad men can just "change". We have bent over backwards to glorify the bad boy in our culture (Fifty Shades of Grey, etc.) to the point where the value of a truly good person is no longer appreciated or even believed to exist.

In fact, I think there is definitely a strong parallel between this and the "nice guy" phenomenon.

I think there definitely needs to be a conversation on women’s safety in public, but it should not implicate all men as agents of female oppression or something. I call out sexist bullshit if I see it, but I’m not going out of my way to “hurt women less” because I already don’t hurt women.

Abuse is not a character trait, it is an anti-social action and as such, can often be unlearned.

The same as drug abuse. While some people have a higher predilection towards addiction, everyone can fall victim to it. How did years and years and years of telling drug addicts that they were immoral and unredeemable and that only evil people do drugs work out for...really anyone except the prison industrial complex?

There are differing strands of Feminism/Liberalism, some of which are more consistent/sensible than others.

The article that is screenshotted here is an okay opinion piece (mind the paywall) written by Olivia Utley. It's well written affirmation of the obvious, that women as a group are weaker and slower than men, and are thus more vulnerable to predators/violent people, especially male predators and violent men.

This difference in strength is blindingly obvious to previous generations, but in "younger circles", according to Utley "the topic of innate differences between the sexes is a taboo."

She says that this "deliberate blindness" among "woke young people" means that it makes it harder for men to empathize with women who are afraid of assault in public spaces.

Olivia Utley also criticizes the effectiveness of some of the measures taken by the UK police after Everard's murder.

Warren Farrell had this great quote about strength and weakness with gender, and it definitely applies to the victim gender dichotomy of violence. Violence against men is committed by people who believe that they're attacking a fair target. Violence against women is committed by people (usually men) who know they're attacking an easy target.

I think men should be aware of this, since feelings about a threat matter (I said it) more than awareness of statistics about the threat. What I've read on social media regarding (some) women's ever-present fear is deeply unfortunate. This issue is outside the purview of MRA's, but it does merit attempts at a veritable solution by governments, hopefully it will not be covered up by security theater.
