Exactly. This is why I have such a problem with my white, upper middle class friends who champion sex work and/or have an Onlyfans account. To me it’s morally bankrupt. They are shielded from the true realities of sex work by their immense privilege and I really question their values. We’re in our late 20s and should be able to think critically about these things.

I have to say I went to Medical School at the third best University in leagues for the UK - I have no female medical friends due to their rampant champagne socialist values. They are idiots. Truer words have never been spoken. There is also something very hypocritical and ironic in the way they’ll say “don’t demonize sex work” but will demonize every job as “exploitive capitalism” to make their point. Consistently taking examples such as Mcdonald’s job and what’s considered “low level” position by the capitalist standards they so claim to detest, patronizing people as stupid and lazy for setting up for jobs they see as not offering as much “perks” as they believe sex work do.

Their rhetoric is actually not so different obnoxious Linkedin “self made” influencers will write lenghty posts demonizing working for companies, to sell you their “unique & very effective” entpreuneurship coaching, selling you the idea the richer you’ll get, the happier you’ll be. Claiming sex work is some kind of anticapitalist move, meanwhile supporting the idea of sex as consumption goods like any other, that can be quickly bought, consummed and then moved onto the next upgraded versions endlessly.

Flashing lavish capitalistic lifestyle, designer bags, cars as baits and rewards to enter said empowering, anarchist career, and looking down on women who do not aspire to the same.

They claim work is bad, but promote a type of “work” as the ultimate and only way women can be empowered. If Mcdonald’s and sex work are both exploitative, how is sex work more empowering than the former?

They constantly bring up how sex work, more regulated industry, blablah, would benefit woc, disabled & marginalized women, like prostitution is a the default job for women from marginalized groups, casting gross stereoptypes and xenophobia as benevolent.

Yeah, what an empowering, revolutionnary concept.

We need to raise more discussions how their rhetoric is insulting to people working what they consider “boring” & “exploitative” jobs. When some of us had to work hard to get where we are, take jobs that we sometimes didn’t like and did not feel good enough for the likes of these “Queens” to just make ends meet, pay for education, support families etc. Yeah, lot of things suck in the work world, but there is no such thing as a perfect gliterry bubble world where it’s all easy and perfect, understanding that, showing resilience through hard ships, refusing to trade your dignity for a flashy lifestyle also do take strenght. To women who fight every day for better working conditions, education, rights.

I can’t believe in an era where women are gaslighting themselves that the way to fight class privileges and bad work conditions is to simply “choose” how you want to be exploited & abused.

I know I’m going against the trend here but I think sex work should be legalized (not decriminalized). The issue I have is that you can be against sex work all you want but you’re not going to stop it. But you can make it safer- focus on stopping sexual slavery. Make it easier to prosecute Men who abuse sex workers. By keeping it illegal- it makes it illicit- prostitutes remain “dirty whores” and it makes it easier to exploit them. It doesn’t mean that it will prevent exploitation but it can decrease it.
