Do they not see how fucking retarded what they're saying is?

[–]Half-Hazard 1374 points1375 points1376 points 10 years ago (161 children) | Copy Link

If I didn't know any better, I'd say this is satire.

[–]fiftyseven 994 points995 points996 points 10 years ago (113 children) | Copy Link

It's the Daily Mail. They will print any old shite if they think it'll be controversial and get them pageviews.

It's seriously a shitrag and some redditors will get up in arms over every article that's posted.

[–]Rkelly-piss-on-me 133 points134 points135 points 10 years ago (95 children) | Copy Link

This. I'm not American but I've heard it's a less reliable version of fox news

[–]CaptainProton16 227 points228 points229 points 10 years ago (91 children) | Copy Link

As an American, Fox News gets wayyyyy to much heat. When people say, "Fox News", they are referring to the O'Reilly Factor or other debate programs on the Fox network. Other than that they are just as biased and corrupt as CNN.

[–]FunkSlice 115 points116 points117 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Fox News deserves a ton of heat. All main news agencies deserve a ton of heat. They're just propaganda machines with big agendas that sadly people buy into.

[–]Mister_Johnson_ 24 points25 points26 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. They're no better or worse than the rest of the alphabet news.

[–]dblmjr_loser 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It's really annoying when people refer to media bias as propaganda. Those world war 2 posters with fanged caricatures of Japanese people were propaganda. What the Japanese government told their people about an american invasion was propaganda. Fox News and CNN are biased media organizations. As is every single media organization. Mountains and molehills.

[–]FunkSlice 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's definitely a form of propaganda. There's no difference. "Those world war 2 posters with fanged caricatures of Japanese people were propaganda. What the Japanese government told their people about an american invasion was propaganda."

So when Fox News lies to people and tries to get people on board in terms of invading Iraq, that isn't similar? These news agencies have insane amount of viewers and can very easily persuade them.

[–]pikaras 25 points26 points27 points 10 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Last election cycle was total shit. Their top story on the front page of the online website for 24 hours was a deer that attacked an Obama sign. Not world events. Not actual politics. No the fact that a deer attacked an Obama sign and was uploaded to youtube was the most important thing that day.

This election cycle they're actually trying to be half reputable but they still have a long history of shitty reporting which people like me aren't ready to forgive so easily.

[–]BEECH_PLEASE 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, this cycle is everyone else reporting on CHEETO FACE SMALL HANDS BABYMAN, you're right, what were they thinking

[–]pikaras 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh don't get me wrong. CNN, NBC and CBS all lost my respect this election cycle. I'm just saying Fox has been only half decent for a year so many like myself are not just going to jump on and praise them. They still have a horrible track record and culture and the only reason they're bearable now is because their competition tried to out-stupid them.

What is this?

[–]CaptainProton16 144 points145 points146 points 10 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

I can't disagree with that. However, why do we only make fun of Fox News for doing that? Every news agency is guilty of that.

[–]rickyimmy 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago* (20 children) | Copy Link

Fox News is the most successful 'news' channel and therefore worthy of the most scorn. Edit: Skip to 3:30 on this clip for a more thorough breakdown of their deceitful practices

[–]CallMeBigPapaya 60 points61 points62 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Fox has a long history of editing interviews to get quotes out of context.

As does every major news outlet. Even small news outlets. TYT edits videos to suit their narrative all the time as well. Not saying it excuses them, but people think the news that agrees with them doesn't do shit like that.

[–]Nic3GreenNachos 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I have stopped watching TYT because of the bias. It use to be good. But now the click bait and shit is too unbearable.

[–]CallMeBigPapaya 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't mind when the hosts have their own opinions, but when they're obviously deliberately misleading people about the facts, then it just becomes propaganda.

[–]franklyspooking 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Whenever someone posts the Daily Mail, I like to link this article by Liz Jones, who understood what it meant to be homeless after her credit card was declined.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1238565/LIZ-JONES.html

As I handed the bellboy my Prada suitcase, the man at reception asked for a credit card. It was declined.

I had been tossed on to life's rubbish tip. For the first time, I felt what it must be like to be homeless, to have no money, no one to turn to.

I realised that this was about the worst thing that can happen to you.

[–]HotSauciness 117 points118 points119 points 10 years ago* (20 children) | Copy Link

Sadly this attitude has been common for decades. There was a shared parenting bill that got rejected in Florida recently, feminist organizations lobbied against it arguing that father's only contribute sperm, so obviously the mother should get custody in a divorce. We're finally seeing some feminists who actually support equality for fathers, but for a long time this was a major issue between feminists and MRAs, with most feminists opposing equal custody rights for fathers for reasons like this: The belief that equality is unfair to mothers, because they're the ones who gave birth

[–]Dopplegangr1 104 points105 points106 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If the father is so insignificant I guess men shouldn't have to pay child support

[–]senormoll 176 points177 points178 points 10 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

"What did the father do?" said women's advocate and co-founder of Families Against Court Travesties Adele Guadalupe. "He contributed his sperm. The mother carried the baby for nine months. The mother had the nausea and threw up, probably had to give up her job. The mother had to give birth, the mother has to breastfeed the child. All of the sudden, the mother counts for nothing and the father has a 50-percent right to this child when it's young? It goes against nature. It goes against justice. It goes against everything we have been brought up to believe."

Just a friendly reminder that every oppressed group in the world would become the oppressor if they could.

[–]Half_Gal_Al 92 points93 points94 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"It goes against nature". Sounds like they like outdated gender roles when it suits them.

[–]serpentinepad 101 points102 points103 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

All of the sudden, the mother counts for nothing and the father has a 50-percent right to this child when it's young?

I guess 50% is "nothing" now.

[–]SomeIdioticDude 21 points22 points23 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

All of the sudden

We're dealing with an intellect that has transcended the normal rules of the English language.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Aaah isn't it nice to have 100% of the custodies?

Woah woah woah woooahh aaaahhhshit

What the hell, only 50 now all of a sudden? Damn men's rights activists!

[–]karmapolice8d 56 points57 points58 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What did the father do

probably also bankrolled the whole thing considering the woman "probably gave up her job"

[–]LikesTacos 23 points24 points25 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They are fine with him continuing to bankroll the whole thing.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Reminds me of my mom when she's crazy mad at me... The whole "I CARRIED YOU FOR 9 MONTHS IN MY BELLY" kind of speech

[–]ChilliWillikers 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Yeah well, nobody asked me if I wanted to be born! You carried that shit of your own accord! I hate you!!!! *......can I have $20?"

[–]stevoli 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"I brought you in to this world, and I can take you out of it!"

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm more appalled by her use of "all of the sudden."

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

While Grammarist agrees that "all of a sudden" is what's officially found in dictionaries, they note that "all of the sudden" is grammatically equivalent. They also not that while a traces back to The Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare, the can be found in print 6 years before The Taming of the Shrew.

[–]nellybellissima 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Most people are greedy and want as much money/power/whatever with the least amount of effort. If you give one group the chance to be in the position to get those things, they will take it and fight viciously to keep it. Sadly most won't be able to realize that they are helping to reinforcing the same system that used to fuck them over. Or they won't care. Empathy is a very rare thing it seems.

[–]HotSauciness 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ironically, feminists consider women the "oppressed" group in part because they had to take care of the children while privileged men had jobs

Dude, so there was this big case here in Australia. Basically this woman hired these ex-soldiers to go and abduct her child from their father in Lebanon, and she, the abducters, and the tv crew all got arrested and thrown in a Lebanese jail. The media here made it all seem like they were the victims and just trying to "rescue" the child.

When you dug up on the story, it turned out that the children were originally in Lebanon with their parents, the mother took them on "holiday" to Australia, and then burnt their passports so they couldn't go back. An Australian court then awarded sole custody to the mother, despite the fact their father very clearly loved them and wanted to be in their lives. So the dad took the kids to Lebanon and kept them there.

I was discussing it with my aunt, saying maybe if the courts had been fair in awarding them equal custody, this whole situation wouldn't have happened. He's a father, he clearly loves his kids, he should have the right to be with them sometimes too.

My aunt was like "no, a kids natural role is with their mother, the mother is more important to the kids than the father."

This is seriously what so many women (and men) believe. Mother first, father optional.

[–]FeelThatBern 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You know feminism is out of control when Lebanon is seen as the country of reason.

[–]K4SHM0R3 33 points34 points35 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

It's actually the Daily Mail, which is a tabloid newspaper, and due to previous articles written by the Daily Mail it's so hard to guarantee that the quotes from people in the article even said what they are quoted as saying, because The Daily Mail bullshits so much.

That's my translation at least.

This is the Daily Mail, they have never had an ounce of self awareness. I'm pretty sure this paper supported fascism in the 1930s.

[–]socalnonsageI love Lauren Libbert. 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I feel that This author/"journalist" generally does not like men. See below for some other articles that she's written:

  • Forget men... girl friends can be the greatest love of your life: Why female friendships are often just as significant

Lauren Libbert says her female friendships have been 'life-changing'

Aged 19, she was devastated to find out her best friend was engaged

But she maintains these relationships with women are purely platonic

I think I can safely say she's lying to herself is she says her feelings for women are platonic

  • The hell of having a hoarder for a husband: Lauren Libbert reveals the stress that comes with a house full of clutter

Lauren spends much of her time putting things back in their rightful place

Her husband, Colin, is often irritated to find she has moved his belongings

So, after we suspect that Lauren isn't a fan of men and is a closet lesbian who lost the love of her life (to marriage) earlier, we now get a picture of an unhappy wife as she gets married to a man and resents him for small infractions.

  • My dirty little secret? I sneak my rubbish into my neighbours' bins at night - because I can't be bothered to drive to the tip!

Lauren Libbert's household has a lot of excess rubbish like broken toys

She's become obsessed with sneaking extra refuse into other people's bins

She knows she should just drive to the tip but 'hasn't got the energy'

She's lazy and dishonest.

SJW confirmed.

EDIT: A Couple nice little tidbits from her Twitter account:

Remember, triggered is when a door closes too loudly and a war veteran is reminded of the time his best buddy got his brains blown out, then collapses to the ground shaking. The word you were thinking of was "reminded."

[–]klethra 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]Weirfish 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not just PTSD, but anxiety too! Pretty much anything that triggers a severe involuntary negative brain response. No, that doesn't mean annoyance or frustration, that means panic attacks, intrusive thoughts, etc.

Given the source, doubtful. But, considering the vast population, statistically it at least happened once.

[–]povertybruh17 points 10 years ago* [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

At least once? I'm basing this on no hard evidence whatsoever but if I had to guess I'd say the majority of the time one parent wins custody over another parent, they paint a bad picture of their ex-spouse in their kids minds... "your dad just doesn't love you that's why he doesn't see you ever" or "your mom said she didn't want to see you guys this weekend".

People think about themselves and not the kids.

[–]Netheral 29 points30 points31 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

It's the other angle of the Eternal September. People that are new to internet culture come online and see people "trolling" and acting like asshats, they think this is just what netiquette is.

So normal people come online and act like idiots because that's what they perceive the internet etiquette to be.

[–]Conman93 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's how I look at lies on the internet. It may not have happened to you OP, but it probably happened to someone.

[–]Erosis 103 points104 points105 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

This happened to me but the story is a bit modified. My father was a con-man and he cheated on my mother. He was absolutely a terrible human-being (for reasons that go way back to his childhood). My dad also was a heavy drug user. It got to the point where he was endangering the lives of my brother and me.

I remember the last day that I saw him was around age 12 and I was crying my eyes out because I knew we would probably not see each other for a long time. To make a long story short, he was on some opioids and caused a serious public disturbance at a restaurant which got the cops involved. We evaded them back to the hotel we were visiting him at (since my mother barred him from bringing us to the ghetto he was currently residing in). On the way back to my mother's home, I kissed him goodbye and told him I was crying because I would miss him. He didn't quite understand the longevity I was thinking of.

As soon as I got home, I had to tell my mom what had happened. It would have been reckless not to. After that, a restraining order was obtained and I was no longer allowed to see my father until he sobered up.

I remember the day he died. I was called out into the kitchen and it looked like an intervention. In addition to my mom and step-dad, my grandparents had decided to stop by. My mom dropped a hint saying, "Something happened to your dad." I quickly quipped back half-jokingly, "Did he finally get shot?" I loved my dad, but also despised him for not writing or trying to sober up for the past 2 years. My grandmother started sobbing when I said that and I knew something happened. "Did he get shot in a gang fight?" Nope, it turns out he committed suicide using a friend's pistol. I was shocked. I didn't know what to think. I shut out emotions for months after the news.

It wasn't until a year after his death did I hear about my father's letters. Apparently he had sent some to my mother and some to a close friend of mine to try and get them delivered. Most were tossed in the trash, but I did get to keep one wishing me a happy 13th birthday and that he wanted to see me so badly. It gets to me just writing this...

[–]theaxis12 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Tragic story man, thanks for sharing. I'm gonna go call my Dad now.

[–]Erosis 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Treasure every moment you have. I know it sounds cliché, but we don't realize how much we truly have until we don't have it anymore. It's been many years since this all occurred, but there are many days I spend thinking about what I could have done (as illogical as it may be). It's a weird feeling knowing that half of your genetics, your blood, is gone from the world.

[–]theaxis12 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah man, thanks. I was tearing up before he even picked up the phone and we had a great talk! Sorry for your loss.

[–]Kathaarianlifecode 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]scubsurf 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dunno if that particular case is true but I had something similar happen.

From what I understand based on people I've met, it happens a lot, though usually to lesser extents.

[–]IMongoose 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm sure its happened. A similar thing happened to my dad when he was divorced. He got like every other weekend or something and when it was his weekend the ex would leave with the kids, and when it was not she would get them ready to visit dad but when he didn't show up say shit like "well he must not really care about you." That was like 30 years ago and some of his kids still have issues with him.

Some people are just incredibly selfish.

Look up Dave Foley's divorce. He can't go back to Canada or see his kids because of their fucked up system.

[–]thrillhou5e 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I've heard Bill Burr reference Dave's case a few times. If you didn't know, Bill has a huge gripe with this type of marriage inequality and with very good reason. I don't know much about the case but I've followed Dave's work since I was a kid and he always seemed like the nicest guy in the world. It's a terrible shame that something like this could happen to someone like him. Especially considering she's probably living very comfortably off of his modest celebrity fortune while the courts see it fit to remove a man's entire family from his life. Unless he's a violent prick, which I very much doubt he is, I see no justification for this kind of action and it makes me sick just to think about.

[–]Popkins 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Jazz_P9350 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sadly, it probably is. My uncle went through a bad divorce a long time ago where the mother was pulling all sorts of shit like claiming that he was a pedophile and molesting their son. My uncle thought it would be better to let him go rather than deal with such a hostile environment throughout his childhood. Fast forward 20 years later and my uncle tries to contact my cousin while he is away at college. My uncle found out that she continued the lie, and when my cousin confronted her about it she kicked him out of the house. If my uncle never reached out my cousin would have never known.

What Dad just writes letters? He could at least sneak a visit at school or wear out the mother over the phone or get a lawyer or go through third parties.

OP could look up the decree and see exactly what the situation was.

[–][deleted] 67 points68 points69 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Since he never got a response, he possibly thought his son didn't want to see him.

[–]dimechimes 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As a father. That doesn't matter. Kids can be confused or not. But you just don't assume they don't want to see you. You verify that.

Some dads are shit heads and the kids have good reasons for not wanting to see them. Problem is, a shit head dad would never realize that.

If only this had been my life. But no, my dad did run off with another woman, had 3 kids with her, and ignores me and my husband and daughter. Once, many years ago, I decided to stop contacting him and see how long he would go without contact before checking to see if I'm still alive. He didn't attempt to contact me for three years, and even then it was only to tell me that my step-mother was pregnant.

When my daughter was born, I started to send him weekly emails, then his replies slowed, so I started sending monthly emails, then even those replies slowed, and so I decided to send him a yearly email, and he didn't even reply to that last year so I didn't bother this year.

His fucking loss, my family is amazing.

[–]creativecartel 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My mom did the same thing. We used to be so close and I think that's why it hurts so bad. I graduated from college last year and I don't know why, but I thought maybe she'd reach out and say something, but I shouldn't have got my hopes up I guess.

[–]thrillhou5e 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Damn right dude he's the one with the problem not you. And don't ever think differently. Some people are just so caught up with themselves and their small bubble they give little notice to the beauty outside of it. Your dad sounds like a selfish man who maybe just won't realize the amazing things he has until they're gone. Maybe you could write him a letter letting him know how you feel?

That's kind of dangerous too. It's possible to win kids loyalty/happiness by being a super shitty parent (goes both ways for both parents).

[–][deleted] 83 points84 points85 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, unless one is abusive, the most permissive (shittiest in my opinion) parent will win the popularity contest. Kids want to eat candy until they explode, ignore homework, play videogames all day and watch tv instead of reading. Basically, they would go with the least strict parent everything else being equal.

[–]lewis_and_clark 18 points19 points20 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I guess I'm outside of this. My dad was permissive but because he knew I was responsible, respected my independence, and knew how capable I was of making most of my own decisions. I love him so much. On the other hand, my mom was/is extremely abusive towards me, my 3 brothers, and my dad. Physical, emotional, and mental torture 24/7. Still goes on, 24/7, and I'm 24 y/o now (and the youngest of the 4). We all have serious problems with her and have laid them out for her many times over many years. She doesn't want to hear any of it and refuses to accept that she needs to change the way she treats people or run the risk of dying old and alone. She's delusional and lives in her own world where she is the Supreme Dictator and owner of our lives. All things must revolve around her. I hate her.

[–]because_zelda 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think it's time you just drop her out of your life... she is being very toxic.

[–]lewis_and_clark 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've pretty much cut her out of most of my daily life at this point as she is very actively a destructive/toxic force in all our lives. There is literally a direct correlation between your happiness and your physical distance from her. Once I went away to college (paid for with my loans) and was able to escape her grasp, I was able to take a step back and mature and learn and realize that her behavior wasn't anywhere close to normal. Families fight. Families have issues. This was way beyond that. She fucked all our heads up so bad that I was so extremely grateful I was able to get away for a few years and realize the situation. The worst part is that a lot of her terrible qualities were then passed to us because that's all we knew. I'm so lucky I was able to realize this but I have to constantly monitor myself to make sure I don't treat people like she does. My brothers all have serious issues with her as well but I don't think they were ever able to self-realize her qualities that she forced upon them through shitty parenting. I hope one day they do so they don't pass it on.

[–]noptastic2 points 10 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

There comes a point where permissiveness begins to feel like indifference and neglect. Kids aren't all blind to that.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Absolutely, though it was not what I had in my mind. I was thinking on the stereotype of "cool dad/mom" that can really mess up with you without you realizing before you get to your twenties. And by that time you are either spoiled or never learned to study and now fail college.

[–]TranceIsLove 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's true. I've experienced it. But I believe children should be able to spend time with both parents equally (except if they're abusive).

[–]Watertor 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I don't get these court situations. Verified evidence of verbal/physical abuse? No visitation. Otherwise fuck off with the strict custody. If a dad wants to fight for custody, maybe he should have it (barring above cases)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup. Aunt and uncle divorced and uncle turned the 3 kids against my aunt. The youngest says he doesn't even have a mom.

[–]kaleldc 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

So. Quick story. My brothers in-laws convinced my brothers ex to divorce him about a year ago. They have a sweet little 2 year old girl. Anyway. That girl loves her father. The only solace oli get from the fact that his ex made my brother homeless and gladly took all but a few dollars of his paychecks is that my brothers ex-in-laws hate how much my niece loves her father. The ex-in-laws try to convince my niece that hes bad and say undermining things to her. It sucks. But my neice doesnt accept any of their bullshit.

[–][deleted] 52 points53 points54 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Just to put this out there, "what the kids want" is a very bad criteria for custody disputes of younger children. Firstly, often enough kids don't want what is good for them. They want sweets, late bedtimes, no TV restrictions etc. This is not true for all kids of course, but generally younger children don't know much about what is in their own best interests.

Second, and more importantly, making the wishes of the children an important factor creates a huge incentive for each parent to try and persuade the children to pick them. This leads to mommy saying bad things about daddy and daddy saying good things about mommy and has the potential to cause confusion and a huge increase in the disruption to the life of the child.

This said, as children get older, some weight should be given to their desires. This, again, is for two main reasons. Firstly, the reasons against I described above are highly muted. A 16 year-old has a basic grasp of what they want and what is in their own best interest, and further, their opinion is not so easily swayed by the things mom and dad say. They can think for themselves.
The second reason is what is called "tennis shoe custody" which is a way of saying that regardless of which parent is given custody, the child will go where he/she wants. If the child simply leaves the home of the custodial parent and goes to the other parent's home, they really cannot be stopped.

[–]TranceIsLove 15 points16 points17 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ok. I was speaking from my experience, and how I missed seeing my Dad. He may not have been a good father but I still loved him. It hurt me a lot.

I only mentioned the children's wants because the mother made herself to be a victim. I was just saying how it seems as though she cares more about herself than what's best for the kids.

Like I said in another comment, unless a parent is abusive, they deserve to see their child.

I appreciate your reply though and I mostly agree

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm a 50/50 dad. 3.5 days a week I cry myself to sleep, contemplate cutting myself and overeat to deal with the trauma.

Wait no I don't, I enjoy my free time because I'm a mentally mature adult that doesn't rely on living my life through my child to be happy. I love her more than anything in the world but I'm just fine with not seeing her 3 days a week, makes it all the more heart melting when she shouts 'Dadddyyyyy' and runs to me when I collect her from school.

Her mum's cool though, just so nobody thinks she's a diva like these douches.

This can be extended to all modern feminism

[–]Poops_McYolo 91 points92 points93 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Feminism version of equality goes like this: There are 100 instances where women are being "oppressed". Instead of creating equality in all 100 instances, they have to become the oppressor in at least 50 instances. Two wrongs don't make a right, and two feminists don't make any sense.

[–]ScarredCock 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In most cases of civil rights in America the pendulum always seems to just swing to the complete opposite direction, rather than moving towards genuine equality.

[–]Daktush 42 points43 points44 points 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

I think it is more: In those 100 instances 30 have women at a disadvantage and another 30 that have men. Let us focus only on the 30 issues where women have it worse, demand equality only in those ]and since in 100% of the raised issues women are disadvantaged let's brand men as chauvinist pig oppressors.

The day I see feminists protesting they get privileged settlements in courts, demanding equal sex representation in plumbing jobs, wanting women to die 10 times more often in their workplace (5% of deaths are women) or leading protests in order to increase prostate cancer research I will believe you.

Feminism is not about equality, it never was. It is about making women equal to men in the fields they are disadvantaged but completely ignoring male issues in the rest.

[–]twilexis 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh fuck off, that judge can piss off back to the 70s.

My grandfather, who is actually my step-grandfather and has no biological children of his own, was fully capable of raising me as a single parent over my own mother because she would rather so drugs and sleep around for said drugs.

We copped so many weird looks and random women (never men) coming up and feigning saccharine concern and asking if I knew 'that strange man' (my grandfather was Caucasian and I'm Greek/Australian aboriginal so we look nothing alike), and then when explaining he's my grandfather we'd cop tons of comments about how 'mum must be enjoying her day off'.

I was a precocious child so I usually looked them square in the eye and said, "I wouldn't know, she's too busy sleeping with men for her next fix"

Hang in there, mate. Kids understand a lot more than adults give them credit for, and as long as you shower your son with love and never bad-mouth his mother% he will grow up knowing that things were outside of your control.

%theres a difference between 'I would love you to stay longer but the court order says you have to go back to mum now' and 'you can't stay because that bitch mother of yours won't give me more time with you'. Don't let the courts tell you otherwise.

(Bloody reddit markdown won't let me use an asterisks without making everything italics lol)

[–]thedayisbreaking 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I know exactly what you mean. I almost lost it about a month ago when I took him to the park and he fell down some lady remarked "Looks like Mommy must want a day off, daddy day care today?"

I mean, it wasn't said with any sort of disdain, but fuck off. I'm a parent, I absolutely can't stand those kind of comments.

Thanks for the support, I never bad mouth the mother (even if I want to) because it does nothing but hurt the kid. Feel like that's one of the most selfish things a parent can do. But, like I said thanks, not sure why, but reading your comment really helped.

[–]mergedloki 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm the mum in purple. Not once did I say the children shouldn't be with their father as much as with me, infact, I think that should be the norm if possible. I know several fathers in costly and lengthy custody battles desperate to see their children more and my heart breaks with them. My ex and I broke up when our son turned 2. We have had 50/50 since the get go, with one hiccup when he was about to start school because we both wanted him for the school week. Neither of us got what we wanted, and continued on with our 50/50. No child support is requested because we both agree that if he's with us 50% of the time, we should be able to cover his needs. If the boy needed something that one couldn't afford, the other would step up.

It's been nice not having to deal with such drama.

That's really a great system you have worked out. I wish more people would put aside their romantic and emotional feelings in favor for the children. My parents divorced a looooong time ago but they've been able to be civil with one another and therefore I've had a great relationship with both of them my whole life. But normal people know being in a permanent state of anger is not conducive to a healthy or happy life.

On Mother's Day this year, Veronica wasn't even able to speak to the girls, as it didn't fall on her court-appointed FaceTime day - something, she says, she found utterly heartbreaking.

That's dumb. Kids should be able to call or whatever, whenever they feel like it. Or, maybe the fact that they didn't says something about that woman.

I'm confused. According to the article the arrangement for Nicola is a week-on and a week-off but the father gets the kids every weekend while the mother gets them only during the weekdays. How does that work?

[–]arashimikata 138 points139 points140 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You do not "stop being a mother" because you do not have legal custody of your children half the time.

You are still a mother. Your children still live and experience life. They do not remove themselves from existence, nor are they forcibly removed from existence.

The only reasons one would "stop being a mother" would be, heaven forfend, the mother or child dies.

I feel that This author/"journalist" generally does not like men. See below for some other articles that she's written:

  • Forget men... girl friends can be the greatest love of your life: Why female friendships are often just as significant

Lauren Libbert says her female friendships have been 'life-changing' Aged 19, she was devastated to find out her best friend was engaged But she maintains these relationships with women are purely platonic

Lauren Libbert's household has a lot of excess rubbish like broken toys She's become obsessed with sneaking extra refuse into other people's bins She knows she should just drive to the tip but 'hasn't got the energy'

She's lazy and dishonest.

SJW confirmed.

When my ex & I got divorced, she was smoking meth, being a prostitute, & never showing up to get our son. And I still only won custody by the skin of my teeth. It's time the courts looked at each case objectively instead of just assuming a child is better off with their mother.

I have a 5 year old daughter. Her mom and I were never married. We broke up before our daughter was born and I knew she was going to make it difficult for me to see my daughter. I hired a paternal rights attorney and over the course of 4 years I got 50/50. It is the best feeling ever having my daughter as much as I can and also her mom not having control. She was more upset about the loss of control and me having our daughter's last name hyphenated than she was losing time with her. She now has a boyfriend and they went off to Costa Rica and were gone for mother's day. Our daughter was crushed because she made her presents and couldn't understand why she left without her.

That's one thing i'll always love and respect my mom for. My parents we're divorced when i was like 2 and even though my dad was a complete asshole she never tried for full custody or keeping him from seeing me and my brother. This was back in 1990 in Texas where the mom can almost always get custody just for being a woman

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Her love for you was bigger than her dislike for your dad, and she was smart enough to understand that kids are almost always better off with two parents in their life. Your mom is probably awesome.

Through thick and thin, sleeping on the couch in a 600sqft studio, sitting at the bar drinking virgin pina colatas watching his band play, him letting me watch my first horror film, spending the day at the beach because it was free.....

My mom gave me a good childhood, she supported me in everything, and I love her...but thinking back on it, even though I wouldn't have the luxuries I did with my mom, I still would have been happier with my dad.

As someone who went through an 8 year divorce with a physically abusive and mentally abusive mother, let me just say.

GOOD

Men have just as much of a right to see their kids and women do. To think men lack the compassion to raise kids on their own or that without a mother they are a harm to the children is bullshit. The fact that you need a specialized attorney just for a CHANCE or leaving the court room unscathed is BULLSHIT.

Our 3 judges just looooved giving my mom second chances. They even let her off the hook for child support. She lives in Port Byron, or something like that. Debt collectors still call me looking for her.

Shes a monster.

She accused me of everything short of sexual abuse (alcoholism, drug addiction, etc). She could just casually throw those accusations out with no consequence when I proved them untrue. I spent over $7k in drug and alcohol testing alone. The final kick in the balls? I got to pay for her attorneys fees in addition to my own. The courts are still heavily weighted against the man. One of my dutch uncles is divorced. His ex-wife got full custody, though he still has visitation rights. Before I start this story, know that I only hear snippets of it from my Mom from time to time, so I may have gotten some facts wrong.

I have never heard of someone so full of hatred. She does everything she can to destroy him in every way possible.

First, it was the kids; she turned them against them, then tried to fabricate claims that he abused them to reduce his visitation rights. The kids are now emotionally distant to him, though she was unsuccessful in her attempts to frame him for abuse.

Then, it was money. She sued him for failing to pay child support, which he hadn't, so the courts reduced his child support payments.

Then, it was religion. He is a pretty religious man and spends a lot of time volunteering at church. In response, she started calling up the bishop and accusing the ex-husband of horrible sins. It got to the point where she was repeatedly calling the bishop at 2 AM, trying to get him to give in and expel the man from church. The bishop refused to listen to her, though.

Because she's so aggressively and transparently spiteful, no one really listens to her other than her children. I hope that one day, they realize what's going on as well. Outside of that, I'm happy to say that my uncle's life seems to be on the upturn.

Regardless of the validity of the newspaper or not.

If true, this is truly something that needed to happen.

As a father of 3 who has sole custody of all 3 of them.

It took me 10 years in court and it more or less ended because children pushed it themselves because of what she had and continued to put them through and she had undeniably made some extremely poor choices.

Cost tens of thousands of dollars and to be honest if I had done a tenth of what she did during that decade I would have lost immediately.

Sometimes it's a unmentioned byproduct that equal rights should mean just that.

Fuck... vapor lock...I am so mad..I can't write. Fuck the Daily Mail... what. utter. shit.

[–]pawless7 points 10 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Fuck this article. I really wish my father would have won custody of my brother and I. My mother is mentally ill and it really took a toll on my brother and I. She is a complete snake and verbally/mentally abusive.

My dad wanted to divorce my mother for a while but was talked out of it by my mother's side of the family. Then she went behind his back and filed for divorce. He didn't find out until we got a knock on the door during dinner one day and it was a man there to serve divorce papers to my dad.

My parents got divorced in 1997. My father wanted to gain custody of us but his attorney advised against it since my mother had custody of my older half-brother and didn't think it was a good idea to try to separate us. After the divorce settled, my dad's attorney said to him, "Man, you probably could have got those kids. That woman is crazy."...... My father had a really shitty attorney basically.

Today, my little brother is 24, a recovering heroine addict, and on anxiety medication. I'm 26 now and was recently diagnosed with severe anxiety, depression, and agoraphobia. Then my older half-brother died in 2010 at the age of 24 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head because he was depressed. I definitely believe we wouldn't have developed these issues if we were raised by my father instead of my mother.

I'm a female and this is exactly why I don't have very many female friends. I can't trust my own mother, so I have a hard time trusting any female. I just expect girls to be backstabbers and extremely judge mental like my mother is.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Holy shit. These people are dense.

[–]bicks236 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because not having your child 2 out of 7 days is totally 50/50.

[–]physalisx 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

her children Devon, 10, and Sonny, eight

the way they chose to write the ages gives me cancer

[–]Arntor1184 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

How someone could fail to see that this will impact the lives of both parties involved is beyond me. Are people really so wrapped up in their narratives that they legitimately cannot see that this would effect the Father in the same exact way?

[–]whitek8gixxer 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As dad that has my kids half time I feel the same way about every moment I've lost. Let's not mention that as much as 75% of divorces are now being initiated by the wife. But guys are unloyal....

[–]Tue-Mar-22 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You do us all great disservice by not including the name of the media outlet that published this crap.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I get the pleasure of having my kids only four days out of the month if I'm lucky. Even though I had to spend thousands on the lawyer going to court just to get a piece of paper that has joint custody written on it. Plus I have no say in what goes on in their life.

[–]puckfirate 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Im glad to hear its becoming more fair. IMO they should not disclose the sex of either party to the judge until after the custody decision has been made. This will eliminate the rampant sexism against men in the court system.

[–]Sw0rDz 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

About fucking time things changed. I've seen hardships from kids who were child support money for their mom, and there dad was one teddy bear fathers. He worked only to support his kids as they were his world. I could only imagine how tough it was. The kids are adults now and have pretty much left their mom out of their lives.

[–]Psykerr 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, she's going through agony until those kids are teenagers and she's like "you can take them this weekend."

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I recently started working in child maintenance...being able to stop child maintenance cases because the child is lucky enough to have 50/50 care is a delight.

I was a child in a case where the mother had the upper hand, and nothing pleases me more than hearing a child getting parented by both mum and dad.

As much as the courts are still very in favour of women, don't read the daily mail, it's a pile of shite.

Also this is just a huge gender war, I guarantee she was paid to say this or she's just one in 100,000 women who would say that.

The best thing most folk can do about bullshit articles like this which just want to add fuel to this retarded gender war is to simply ignore them.

I'm glad I like most women and I'm glad most women like me.

[–]Master_JeZZy 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I wouldn't really call that a win. In this article the women still gets the kids for the week, while only losing them on the weekend.

[–]diggyziggy 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well I guess their secret is out. "I'm gonna make him send me all his money. And then I'm going to go party". All while the kids get used as a tool. I say fuck them bitches. Boo fucking hoo!

Equality is so unfair.

[–]Swmitch 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Finally father's are being recognized as important also... Perhaps soon they will move on to recognising the children.

[–]johnnyRebb 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's like they're sharing with a monster or something... Rather than the OTHER FREAKING PARENT

[–]Daedelous2k 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hooray for the fathers that have to deal with their cheating spouses trying to take their kids they have stood by.

[–]ImOP_need_nerf 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Equality goes both ways. That's the point.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

About. Fucking. Time

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's more concerned about her own experiences than her childrens' experiences.

[–]ThicklyThweet 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Now they know how the fathers feel! 💯

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In any divorce the father experiences all of those things they mention. But that's ok. He's probably a cheater and abusive and should be out making money so 3/4 can be given to the mother.

Is this an onion article? If not, the writer is clearly insane, and should either be reprimanded or fired for the article.

Immediately checked to see author. Was not surprised

Having a kid is different than being a mother. I never understood why people think popping a kid out of your pussy turns you into some saint overnight. If you were a shitty person before you had a kid then you're most likely going to be a shitty mother.

[–]Sjwpoet 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How have you guys not mentioned, it says agony of a 50/50 mom... but she has them 5 of 7 days. Far more than half the time.

[–]Holy_canoli_olie 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As a woman with 2 kids, I try to make sure their father sees them whenever he is able. I'm sad when they leave, but happy because they can spend time together and it makes them happy. This article is a huge pile of bullshit and these women are ridiculous. Parenting is 50/50, together or not. They need to get the fuck over their selfish selves.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women have it better than men in the Western world. Women also benefit the most from Affirmative action programs. But none of that matters because some drunk girl decides to get fucked one time and nobody called it rape.

[–]deadfallpro 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Suck a cock you worthless bitch. How many thousands of fathers have missed out on those special things, simply because family court sided with the vagina?

[–]Photog1981 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This speaks to western culture where the father is considered to be nothing more than support for the main parent, the mother. I would imagine the person who wrote this article also refers to fathers as "babysitting" their kids when Mom's out. In the absence of abuse, other mitigating factors, a father absolutely should have equal time with their kids.

[–]AtomicKittenz 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Two daughters? One of them looks and is dressed like a boy.

[–]soisurface 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can't even. The retards are here in Australia too.

[–]Manburpigx 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

[–]Epidemigod 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You don't have to pay kids. If they don't behave you send them to their room and change the internet password.

[–]Manburpigx 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You do when their father has majority custody.

BOOM!

But no, seriously, you're right.

[–]derekr999 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

let me say this, i love my kid and would die for him. 50/50 wont happen not in ky where i live, they fucking out right fuck me. idk what to do i keep him 3 4 days a week and pay childsupport, and when i mention 50/50 or even full for me. she takes me to court and says im trying to take her child away. i dont get the system.

[–]dimechimes 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As a 50/50 dad, I hope to see more of these articles. Not because I give a crap about other people's custody situations. Just so I don't have to hear the whining about "unfair to men".

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The Daily Mail is written by Cunts for Cunts.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why does the Daily Mail hate Dads so much? They've been against any sort of parental equality for ages. I remember them getting angry at protestors who were advocating this exact thing about 12 years ago.

[–]saul_japancakes 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As a father that never misses his payments and only gets to see his son 4 days over night and only two hours on Thursdays this seriously pissed me off.
