I think that’s definitely true. Five years ago, it was still pretty common to openly believe that men don’t face any gendered issues. Nowadays even those who are generally opponents to fighting men’s issues concede that many of those issues are legitimate. The tide is definitely turning somewhat.

In years past, places like r/WitchesVsPatriarchy on international men's day were pretty much unanimous in "yeah, men are trash."

This year, they were more "men are all right, but fuck those MRA ones."

Gen Z does acknowledge that men suffer with issues like DV and rape (many “woke” and progressive people too, to a certain extent. Except the ones with institutional power, those seem to always deny any instance of male victimization), it’s just that they severely underestimate how often those things happen. Many of them also see the problems men face as “patriarchy and male privilege backfiring”.

I’ll feel much more optimistic when we have an acknowledgment of male issues that relies less on victim blaming and when we start to see male issues being addressed in pop culture. If you think about it, when did you see male issues being addressed in songs, movies, TV shows? I keep seeing people referring to works that are completely on tune with the status quo as “bold”, but you know I’d really consider bold? A movie that pushes back against the demonization and pathologizing of masculinity or that acknowledges instances of male victimization as a consequence of being men.

But sure, I do feel like the number of people aware of male issues grows by the day. I just wish it becomes more mainstream and acceptable faster. The way things are now, it’s not something I’d feel comfortable talking about in social and academic circles.

I see it too. It has slowly been growing for a number of years and I see and uptick lately as well. At the same time parts of the left have been becoming even more misandric and gynocentric than ever.

I think so too. I think the male advocacy space is broadening too and even more feminist leaning people are starting to try to tackle misandry in good faith. Even in places like r/MensLib, which while the moderation team is pretty strict and openly feminist (and sometimes misandrist), the actual community is absolutely great at shutting down derailing (people making it all about women) and highlighting how society contributes to male issues.

I see this as a fantastic thing.

Support for men will never grow silently. It is growing because the MRM is getting better at spreading its message, helped by the fact that as things get worse, it becomes more and more obvious how much men are disadvantaged.

The more noise we make, the more we all demand that our politicians take action on issues, the more willing we are to stand up in the fight and be counted, the better off all men will be.

I feel like it was more present in the early 10s believe it or not, but took a dive after MeToo and now it's slowly going up again, although who knows if it is good work or not. Mostly these things just come down to bitching and grifting.

When I talk about men's issues with my Gen Z friends, they seem concerned for the men around them, aware that everybody can face different, unique or common issues from/with them and it creates a spirit of empathy.

There definitely are people who listen and care!

Gen Z here. The pendulum is swinging, albiet slowly. There is an issue, though - it seems like everyone's views are skewing to extremes.

I'm not seeing many people picking up mens issues - the most notable one from my generation is the loneliness guys face. However, far less people are buying into the hyper-progressive bullshit. The problem is that the ones who still are are getting even more extreme with their views, making it even harder to pull them back to sanity.

On the other side, I've met several people my age who realised how shitty the progressive bullshit was, but then overshot and wound up being genuinely bigoted.

I guess sanity is hard to come by nowadays.

I agree. There is a noticeable uptick in awareness and support for men's issues. Like the meme I crossposted yesterday, which got 19k+ upvotes on r/memes. The tide is starting to turn.

Yes, but what I see mostly is people being just fed up with "social justice" talking points and getting shit on by the rich and the woke for their inherent traits. And honestly that's all I'm hoping for at the moment, if the backlash doesn't come soon and hard then this nonsense will dig its roots deep into western society via indoctrination of future generations.

Not really, but I believe that many people believe/experience it and am happy for them, even though that may further depress the chances for proper activism to emerge in the future.

The more accepted the terminology that clearly puts men's issues below that of women (and thereby leads to less endorsement of activism, change and acknowledgement of men as valid victims on par with women rather than a sidenote "men get raped/abused too") becomes, the harder it will be to change peoples minds.

I do not know if people acknowledging male victims as second class victims (women as victims of misogyny and male privilege, men as victims of toxic masculinity and their privilege/power backfiring; both as victims of male privilege and power/patriarchy) is preferable to them not acknowledging them at all, as the latter at least keeps the hope alive that people would care if they knew.

I am afraid the "patriarchy hurts everyone" and "toxic masculinity" stuff may stall progress toward proper representations of men's issues in exchange for some good old "men can get raped too" more than some want to admit.

Yes but I think it's out of embarrassment. Social Media spread radical eugenic tinged feminism and it became widely embraced.
Before COVID you'd see sentiments like "dick is plentiful and of low value" and unironic calls to cull low status men. In essence social media caused feminism to say the the quite part out loud and it just seem like a runaway train with people getting more and more hateful to the point where even laymen could see that it was female supremacist movement. Either someone realized how dangerous for the economy to alienate men this much, or COVID caused women to feel vulnerable and tempered the impulse to attack the sex they may need help from, which caused it to stop

More and more I'm seeing younger people with an understanding of men's issues, though it could be due to the online content I'm consuming. But it seems like a lot of terms and talking points, like "apex fallacy" and others, are becoming commonly understood.

I think that's definitely true. Even this sub has steadily grown since I've been here, which isn't very long compared to most people. I think it was something like 8k when I first posted. It's 10.3k now at time of writing. The question is, whether the rate of growth is fast enough, and whether it will actually help in our lifetimes.

As far as I can tell, it's mostly gowning via male support. I.E. disenfranchised men realizing how screwed over they are. Feminism has such a stranglehold over modern discourse that I don't think many women get persuaded over to this view. And why should they? They are being made to think they are at the top of the world. At best, most will only regretfully realize how disenfranchised most of us were until they're older and its too late. They will only understand with our absence.

Not to downplay the participation of all the women who do agree with men's advocacy. You rock. There's just not many of you, sadly. Maybe I'm wrong though. We do have a lot of lurkers (which is just like any sub).

Going to be the pessimistic voice here. I think there has been an increase in recognition and support, but it's not due to increased empathy but due to increased institutional oppression against men. In the past few years we've come to have a world where a man who can't have sex is deemed a Twitter terrorist in the making, where nonviolent crimes are only crimes when committed by men, where bachelor taxes are making a comeback. Proportional to how much more severe the oppression has become, since degree of recognition of male targeting DV and rape seems like negligible progress.

I think they are to a degree, although so is feminism, so maybe it's a natural balanced reaction to that. The worry is most of the controlled opposition of feminism is basically policed by feminism itself, so men's and adcovacy issues only gain traction when it's in line with feminist standards. It's not in a good state.

I was following the twitter hashtag for Men's Day this year. The difference between this year and previous years is that there were far more positive and helpful comments.

Far less extreme right whaargarble trying to coopt it to push Trmupsterism. Far less cackling and screeching about how men have every day already and how funny it is that it's also toilet day.
