Women's health problem: Society has failed women.

Men's health problem: Men bad.

[–]Machomuk89 35 points36 points37 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men make up majority of casualties of war

Women most affected.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points27 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There are many such cases.

[–]imAlreadyBanned8 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not trying to open Pandora's Box, that's the same way people argue about black people problems lol

[–]__pulsar 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They're mostly right in that case.

Who's fault is it that 70% of black children are raised by a single mother? That number was only 29% when Jim Crowe was in effect so you can't blame it on the justice system.

Who's fault is it that ghetto culture is one big "crabs in a bucket" situation where successful people are knocked down by their peers? Where kids who try hard in school are mocked by their peers? Where young adults who decide to move to a safer neighborhood are bullied for their smart decision?

I could go on but the truth is that the only people who can fix the black community is black people themselves. We've been throwing money at the problem for roughly 60 years and things have only gotten worse.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points23 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

lol yeah it's true. They've decided in advance that they're going to blame men for everything.

[–]ohisama 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's what is already happening in India.

[–]Exiest997 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

bro few months ago I heard about pink medical wagons and many men getting pulled out of them with force cause the priority was given to women...you know something more about it?

[–]ohisama 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No idea.

[–]AirSailer 154 points155 points156 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Is it so hard to believe men care less about themselves when society itself treats them like shit and punishes them when they try to defend themselves?

[–]AbysmalDescent 27 points28 points29 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When there's a limited supply of care, attention is limited or care becomes costly, men will put the care of women and children above their own too.

[–]TraehNoil 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Pretty good statement. 100%.

[–]Silentpoolman 28 points29 points30 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]mindfulotuss93 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What about...idk... Personal integrity or accountability? Haha what a pathetic victim mentality

[–]63daddy 74 points75 points76 points 4 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

By the article’s own admission there is only a 4%. vaccination difference between men and women. How can they make all these sweeping generalizations about how men are so different when only a very small percent are making different vaccine decisions? 96% are making the same choices women make.

[–]Kondijote 37 points38 points39 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Funnily enough, according to a study carried out in 2017, the vast majority of antivaxxers are women.

[–]Maldevinine 15 points16 points17 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I would expect that to be very different now. The majority of the AntiVax movement before the pandemic was aimed at mothers specifically through infant vaccinations. With fathers (for a variety of reasons) having less control over infant vaccinations, it wasn't worth the movement targeting them with propaganda.

But Covid is very gender and age neutral, so it's drawn a whole collection of new people into the general AntiVax movement.

[–]tenchineuro 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

But Covid is very gender and age neutral,

Are you sure?

  • At least 65,000 more men than women have died from COVID-19 in the US
  • Men are much more likely to die from COVID-19 than women. This is true globally – where the death rate has been about 50% higher for men. Notably, this gap does not appear to be explained either by differences in the number of confirmed cases or in pre-existing conditions. With the pandemic cutting life expectancy of American men by more than two years, it is important to understand and mitigate risks associated with COVID-19 mortality among men.

Initially the vast majority of deaths were in the over-65 range. Today Omicron is affecting the young too, but I have not seen the death rate by ages (too early for Omicron) and have read of very few youth deaths. I suspect the elderly are still dying at a much higher rate.

[–]non-troll_account 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Omicron has been around long enough that we should have some data, or at least estimates, on the number of deaths from it. Buy you still get banned from the main subreddits for asking for omicron death toll numbers, and I I certainly haven't found anything while trying to find out.

[–]MrPernicious 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I read that Omicron's death rate is only 8% of the Delta death rate. I.e. if 100 people would have died from Delta, only 8 will die from Omicron. That was an estimate from South Africa. But then it is a lot more transmissible so the total deaths might end up being closer.

[–]tenchineuro 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

But then it is a lot more transmissible so the total deaths might end up being closer.

Good point.

[–]MrPernicious 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Especially as Israel have found that the 4th dose of Pfizer (i.e. 2 boosters) isn't enough to prevent an Omicron infection. Hopefully it at least prevents severe cases but I haven't seen any data on that.

I have a feeling most people will get Omicron as they won't be able to release an updated vaccine in time.

[–]tenchineuro 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Especially as Israel have found that the 4th dose of Pfizer (i.e. 2 boosters) isn't enough to prevent an Omicron infection.

I just saw that headline yesterday.

I have a feeling most people will get Omicron as they won't be able to release an updated vaccine in time.

It's be a year at least if the past is any guide.

[–]MrPernicious 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think they said they would have an Omicron vaccine in march but then they need to test, manufacture and distribute hundreds of millions of doses so who knows when they would be available to use

[–]ohisama 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because they don't want and need logical and objective evidence. The main aim is to jump on the man-bad,woman-good bandwagon. Anything and everything is looked at from that angle.

[–]ImpossibleAir4310 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

With the amount of data that’s flying around right now 4% is probably the margin of error. It’s not that meaningful as a statistic, certainly not enough to make sweeping conclusions about any one group.

[–]63daddy 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep. Could be error, could be random chance, could be lots of things. It’s certainly not significant to draw conclusions about an entire group as you said.

[+]JoyousCreeper -17 points-16 points-15 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

4% is alot

[–]The_Dapper_Balrog 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe, but 96% is a whole lot bigger than 4%.

[–]63daddy 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No it’s. Not. The men who are behaving differently to than women regarding vaccine choices is a very small percentage of men. Overall, men and women are making very similar choices.

What they are generalizing as being different about men overall is in reality only true of 4% of men. That is credibly misleading.

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not really, since 5 to 10% of women aged 18 to 44 are pregnant any given year.

[–]ABBucsfan 25 points26 points27 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Tell that to my ex. She would eat chocolate bars late at night when everyone was asleep watching Netflix. My daughter would even find a few wrappers and comment. Also never went outside or did any form or exercise. I got fed up trying family hikes and things. Would have my youngest in my shoulders with a heavy backpack and would be waiting on her huffing and puffing like she's about to collapse. Even turned around 15 mins one time and said she'd wait in the car. My parents were visiting and they were also waiting on her when I took them to the mountains. But of course I was to blame for her health issues later.

I know the stereotype exists that married men are healthier, but she shut down my going to the gym, running etc. Always a guilt trip. Wasn't until we were on path to divorce I wasnt taking that crap

[–]Visual_Effective_913 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm sorry it had to happen this way for you bro, I've had similar issues with my partner in the past, it caused a nervous breakdown and only then we're my issues actually addressed and only then did my partner realised I was in extreme distress. Society has plugged ideas into the brains of women as to what a man should be, but I think with time, care and effort we can try to effect change in the people we care for most

[–]Philosophipster 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It’s only due to many women’s unwillingness to look at facts. She got out of shape, fat, etc. You didnt. And she’s the problem for fun and healthy activities.

Solution in her selfish mind: lets lower the bar to unhealthy (and possibly shame even worse people on TV). Solution of a grownup: Let’s look at myself first.

I recon she probably faulted you for any lack of affection/attraction, even though her laziness and lack of respect for her partner got her body into that mess.

[–]ABBucsfan 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Affection was never an issue on my side. She definitely did pack on some pounds, but I could still find attraction for her. No she startes shutting down the affection over time herself and once she got pregnant a second time that was it. Basically don't even touch me and I'm gonna go get changed in the bathroom kind of thing

[–]Philosophipster 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That’s rough man, i commend you for sticking with her and the relationship. As long as you can handle the drain/strain it’s good.

[–]ABBucsfan 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh it's over now. Went to counselling cause I'm like I'm not the guy you want me to be, goal posts keep moving, and I can't just keep trying harder, we either fix this or I'll let you go I'd that's what you really want. Basically went and spent whole session trashing me, when they asked her to list soemthing good she apparently found it so hard, she didn't do the homework either. Counsellor didn't blame me or whip Mr into shape like she hoped, they actually challenged her quite a bit and told her she shuts me down and leave me noe way out of conversations. One day she shows up after being to the doctor and says her health is really bad, blames me and the marriage and says if I don't let her go shell die early. At that point my main concern was my kids, but for her it was like well I did all I could and it still was never enough, don't let the door hit you

[–]KingMitchelson 26 points27 points28 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well I think it’s because of the side effects of this specific vaccine are occurring most frequently in young men, not because they don’t take good care of themselves.

[–]aigars2 57 points58 points59 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

/Doctors, psychologists, evolutionary theorists seem to agree that it all comes down to men having a higher tolerance for risk. But untangling the cause is complicated. Some researchers think the trait is a genetic holdover from ancient times, when men who engaged in aggressive, risk-taking behavior could out-compete their peers for mates and food./

BS. Men are just most ignored and vilified part of society. As a proof. What is the most affected group in this tabloid story? NOT men!

[–]bilgediver 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

we just generally take different risk/reward decisions. women seem to prioritize safety over all. Men seem to lower safety as a priority when other stuff needs to get done.

It makes sense when you factor in that men are the sex that historically had to defend the tribe from predators while the women huddled in the center with the children. The only exception I would say is if women's children were threatened, then they would make other decisions.

[+]aigars2 -13 points-12 points-11 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

For me anyone who does not prioritise their health on some level is either a teenager or "otherwise under developed person" OR a completely healthy person living in a false presumption they're immortal. OR give us a credible study [at least 10 000 subjects, men Vs women] which prooves your theory without statistical error and with showing a meaningful percentage of difference.

[–]bilgediver 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"on some level" is not the same as "above anything and everything else"

[+]aigars2 -10 points-9 points-8 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Okay give us a study where all women prioritise health above all.

[–]bilgediver 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

https://hbswk.hbs.edu/item/the-covid-gender-gap-why-fewer-women-are-dying

halfway down they try to dive into it

Why are women behaving more cautiously than men toward COVID? Prior research shows that, in general, women are more risk-averse than men. Similar gender differences emerged in response to an outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2002, Pons notes. This latest research also suggests women may be more inclined than men to look out for others' welfare.

[–]Starmind0 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It has nothing to do with biology or nature. The sexist oafs who say that are looking for an excuse for the immense discrimination men are facing.

[–]_THE_asshole 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I take more risks because anything that gets me away from these harpies sooner is better! Lol jk.

[–]tenchineuro 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

risk-taking behavior

And what would that be in this case?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is true that men are higher risk takers, because they need to compete for mates. It is not even ancient. There are still plenty of men today that do not end up fathering their own child.

Not sure though that 'risk taking' is the reason for lower vaccinations. If they wanted to know the reasons, they should ask men about it.

[–]JoyousCreeper 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The reason we "don't take good care" of ourselves is because society shuns us caring about ourselves

[–]gratis_eekhoorn 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

wait didnt guardian recently made an article about women are refusing to get vaccinated because medical industry hasnt gained their trust?

[–]Taroda 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Schrödinger's feminist: whether the feminist in the box is dead or alive depends respectively on whether the feminist being dead or alive can be spun as oppression.

If both states can be spun as oppression, then the feminist is simultaneously dead and alive.

[–]ohisama 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Would you have a link?

[–]SuaveFuck 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

come to think about it, THAT IS ACTUALLY REAL SEXISM RIGHT THERE.

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or maybe the CDC recommending pregnant women be prioritized explains at least part of the difference.

[–]Inevitable_Brain9852 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Again it all falls back to being told to “man up” or “just deal with it” when we do talk about issues. Which when most of society tells us that of course we don’t take care of our selfs because everyone craps on us when we try.

[–]Machomuk89 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I lead a far healthier lifestyle than at least 80% of women I know.

[–]Remote_Pro 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]SodyPops17 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Double_Pickaxe_YT 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]ThePigmanAgain 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes, and who TEACHES them to not take care of themselves? Who tells them to take it like a man? Who tells them to hang tough? Who tells them to man up? Our stinking, man-hating society, that's who.

[–]NiKE1997 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Typically the men of our "stinking man-hating society" tell other men to take it like a man, hang tough and man up, that's who.....

The endless cycle.

Break it now! I break it each and every day with my son. <3

[–]ThePigmanAgain 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Good for you and your son. But men don't raise themselves to have such shitty attitudes, as you know since you're raising your son to be the opposite.

[–]shaunm1022 15 points16 points17 points 4 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

I didn't take it because I heard that it affects your heart and I have heart disease in both sides of my family also for some reason the disease only affects men in my family and I just can't risk that plus I heard that side effects from the vaccines are mostly aimed at men/boys

[–]biff64gc 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago* (17 children) | Copy Link

I'd recommend you talk to some doctors about your concerns. Vaccine can have some issues with myocarditis and other heart issues, but the rates are very low and recovery with treatment happens quickly.

I say get more info because a side effect of the COVID virus itself is also heart complications on top of everything else. So I think you're better off with the vaccine in a controlled scenario rather than adding heart problems onto the virus.

Edit: lol, down votes for suggesting he talk to professionals. Some desperate anti-vaxxers on here I see.

[–]shaunm1022 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah I get what your saying but either way I have no health insurance

[–]biff64gc 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]KissMyAsthma-99 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

I'm an MD. He's correct.

[–]tenchineuro 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm an MD. He's correct.

Without taking any sides here, there are a few points.

  1. Congress has removed all liability from everyone in the vaccine supply chain. No other product has this. So if the doctor gives someone allergic to eggs a vaccine and they die of the allergic reaction, so sorry so sad, but it ends there. You have to sue the government to get compensation for vaccine injuries and they would rather not pay and have lots of lawyers. Do you think that might reduce any concerns about side effects?
  2. In fact it does reduce concern, rather it has eliminated concern. No one is looking for vaccine injury and no one cares. There is a voluntary reporting system (VAERS) but no one monitors it. So much for the doctor's oath to first do no harm.
  3. If your child died of an allergic reaction to a vaccine, I suggest you might realize how hollow and inhuman the statistical excuse for deaths and injury is. But I guess letting others be injured or die is a price you are willing to pay for a perceived greater personal safety. There was an article I read of a female doctor who gave her daughter a vaccine and she died because of it. But she was still pounding the stump about the safety and effectiveness of vaccines. My cynical take on this is that pediatricians make a large percentage of their income from vaccinations and she had no more children to lose. As the punchline in an old joke goes, business is business.
  4. In countries like Japan, for vaccines that were causing a lot of injuries they stopped using them. Too bad the US ain't like that. Apparently one batch of the original polio vaccine was made with a virus that had not been inactivated and it gave an untold number of children polio, and many were paralyzed for life. But the professionals, aka MDs just repeat the manufacturers PR.
  5. Speaking of due diligence, just why did the FDA decide to let drug manufacturers do their own safety testing? Is there not some possibility of a conflict of interest?

But what the hey, there is no liability (except for 5) so there's no pressing concern for the government or companies to make safety their main concern, the companies want their stockholders to be happy and the US govt has been using US citizens as unknowing guinea pigs for generations.

So some people have some degree of skepticism.

[+]ThePigmanAgain -7 points-6 points-5 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I find it hard to believe that an MD would have a username that's a play on "kiss my ass."

[–]KissMyAsthma-99 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Asthma. And you obviously don't get the reference.

[–]ThePigmanAgain -5 points-4 points-3 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Why precede asthma with kiss my?

[–]KissMyAsthma-99 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Because it's a show reference.

[–]ThePigmanAgain -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Men do need to take better care of themselves. I have a friend who is a nurse in a doctors office and she says that many more married men come in for routine physicals.

Get your routine physicals. Get vaccinations, HPV, COVID, Hepatitis is your sexual active. Get a yearly blood test. Men are behind on all screening tests compared to women.

[–]tenchineuro 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Get your routine physicals. Get vaccinations, HPV, COVID, Hepatitis is your sexual active. Get a yearly blood test. Men are behind on all screening tests compared to women.

I realize that just blaming men wholesale is the preferred narratibve.

But over the years I've seen so many men, from decades back post on how they have had difficulties seeing a doctor.

One man here posted that it took multiple visits to the doctors office (in the UK) to register as a patient. He probably had to take vacation or time off work for that.

In another UK case a man called for his wife to get an appointment and got one 2 weeks out. His wife was furious and called them right back and got an appointment the same day. It seems he had forgotten to mention that the appointment was for his wife.

And this is the the UK where health care is provided, but men and women do not have equal access.

In the US a great many have no health insurance, and probably can't afford to go to a doctor. But there are many free clinics for women's care.

  • Free Women's Health Clinics Near Me
  • If you can't afford any health insurance and don’t qualify for coverage through the health insurance marketplace, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), you can get low-cost health care at a nearby community health center.

  • Free women's health clinics are located in both urban and rural areas. How much you pay depends on your income.

  • There are around 17,000 free or low-cost clinics that provide medical care in the united states.

For men, let's just say it's a different situation.

[–]Hayekr 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is exactly true, regardless of what that dismissive troll that I just blocked says.

There's a relatively callous saying in medicine "Women get sick, men die". Women overwhelmingly use the health system far more for routine checkups, while men typically wait until they actually get sick or God forbid a serious illness to finally get seen. There's many reasons for this but most likely it is a combination of evolved higher risk tolerances + societal pressures encouraging them to 'tough it out'.

This translates to a large disparity in healthcare maintenance; which is somewhat paradoxical because men often lead healthier lives than women in terms of BMI and sedentary lifestyles.

[–]OldEgalitarianMRA 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In school they taught us one additional reason women use health care more than men. They have contact with the medical system in their twenties during childbirth. They learn the system. I think it's men's attraction to risk that contributes.

[–]SodyPops17 -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

So 1 nurse you knew at 1 doctors office is entirely contributing to your opinion that men don't take care of themselves? Ok. Next.

[–]Hayekr 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ease up on the snark, this isn't a women's board so less feminine energy is encouraged.

There's studies by the Cleveland Clinic (Sept. 2019) and CDC that have fairly eye opening data on disparities in healthcare maintenance screenings between men and women. I also work in medical education and no one disputes this data that I know. The more important questions are why men fall behind.

[–]SodyPops17 -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"This disturbing trend is backed up by the Centers for Disease Control. The CDC reports that women are 33 percent more likely to visit the doctor than men, and women are 100 percent better at maintaining screening and preventive care"

That means women are twice as good at screening and preventative care.

And they can get it for free or at reduced cost.

Obamacare requires insurance providers to cover all woman's health issues at no cost to the woman. Men's health issue and reproductive issues are not covered at all.

How can you call yourself an RMA and use feminist talking points?

[–]Taroda 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

I just want evidence that these vaccines are safe in the long run, since they skipped the usual 5-10 year longitudinal safety studies.

I'm absolutely disgusted by a majority of society. Boomer politicians never gave a fuck about the environment, which is a much bigger problem than COVID, but as soon as a disease targets them specifically suddenly the economy and human rights need to shut down. Young people only needed to be scared a little bit to blindly trust pharma companies. Tons of morons actually believe science is about "trusting the expert" and "scientific consensus".

I hope when this is over, we can rebuild a world with better people.

[–]mushroomshoe 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

Yeah it's so hard explaining what science is to those people. Experiments need to have controls and be reproducible, and you can't be looking to get a specific result. So much corrupt "science"

[–]Taroda 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

That's absolutely true, but I was thinking more along the lines of people who believe that there are scientists out there who have all the answers ("Just trust the experts!") or who think scientific consensus is infallible. I've even seen vax pushers tell skeptics not to try to interpret any scientific data themselves, and to just trust what scientists say.

Scientists question and doubt each other all the time. Even Einstein's and Stephen Hawking's theories are constantly being put to the test by other researchers trying to see if there's any flaw, any situation at all where they don't work as they should.

Asking for evidence and remaining skeptical in the absence of evidence is actually the most 'scientific' thing someone can do. People who handwave away the lack of studies proving the long-term safety of COVID and mRNA vaccines by saying "We can trust the experts, they know what they're doing" are idiots with a very mistaken view of what science actually is.

[–]peter_venture -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

Actually, many people trusting the vaccine are doing so because COVID is a varient of SARS and the COVID vaccine is modeled on the SARS vaccine, which has been around for 20 years. So it's not like there aren't any studies. Science building on established science is nothing new.

[–]Taroda 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

First time I'm hearing of that. Please provide your sources.

[–]peter_venture -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

A simple Google search gives you several sources:

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2021/01/21/fact-check-covid-19-vaccine-nearly-20-years-making/3873247001/

This is just the first that came up for me.

[–]Taroda 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

That link contradicts your claim that the COVID vaccine is based on the SARS vaccine. It says the only link between the two is that the protein targeted by the COVID vaccine was identified while developing the SARS vaccine.

More importantly, I'm not seeing any evidence of long-term safety in there, which is what I thought you were talking about when you mentioned people trusting the vaccine. I do trust that it provides some protection against COVID if that's what you meant, you don't need to convince me of that.

If you have a link to a research paper that provides the evidence of long-term safety I'm looking for, feel free to provide it. I doubt such evidence exists, but I remain open to the possibility.

A simple Google search gives you several sources:

Your claim, your responsibility to back it up. And I already tried searching for this evidence on my own.

[–]peter_venture -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

COVID is a varient of SARS, and the COVID vaccine is based on the SARS vaccine. There is no reason to fear the second when the first was wildly successful. Still...

https://www.aarp.org/health/drugs-supplements/info-2020/covid-vaccine-myths.html

Pay close attention to Myth 1. If you truly are searching for evidence and not just looking for excuses to be a Luddite then this should help.

[–]Taroda 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Still no evidence of long-term safety.

There's a mention of clinical trials, but no details - I assume these are short-term trials (the link leads to a page containing testimonies of a few trial participants, no actual research paper).

If you want to continue this discussion, then start by learning what scientific evidence is, and try to understand what you're reading before referring people to it. Otherwise you're just wasting my time and yours.

As I said, I need a research article that provides actual evidence of long-term safety. Not vague claims of links between new and older vaccines, or of unspecified clinical trials.

I get that you're not a scientist and you're just trying to repeat things you previously heard and found convincing enough, but none of this passes scientific standards. So instead of telling me to google your evidence for you and accusing me of being a Luddite, maybe you should get an education in scientific research.

[–]peter_venture 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

No evidence? No research? Okay, you've show that, like so many others, nothing will change your mind. There's plenty of scientific research out there, but a closed mind isn't open to any of it. Have fun in denial.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Fair enough, but then you should also ask for evidence that covid is safe in the long run, since we don't have 5-10 year safety studies on that either.

[–]Taroda 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I did. I've come to the conclusion that based on how much I isolate, I'm highly unlikely to get it. And based on the demographic I'm in (age, health...), even if I do get it, I'm highly unlikely to develop a severe case.

There's also the fact that other solutions may become available in the near future. Meds, a benign COVID variant that provides immunity, more effective masks... Waiting a little longer seems like the best course of action in my case. Plus there's nothing stopping me from re-evaluating my stance as we get more information.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

even if I do get it, I'm highly unlikely to develop a severe case.

You can get a mild case, and then still develop secondary long term problems in a few years.

No, i don't take it because i don't trust or agree with the msm narrative. No amount of propaganda will sway me, and i worry more for the people losing their livelihoods for not complying than I do about the virus in general. I've had covid and feel that it is a rough flu at worst. It makes sense that people with comorbidities are at risk, but the general population shouldn't have to cater to that, especially since the human intervention is prooving to be just as harmful as the virus itself. We are fighting against a power that is trying to collapse society and rebuild it into a global totalitarian system. The lockdowns and mandates are forcing a schism in our society. If you don't comply you will likely lose your job, and soon your right to visit public spaces, and after that you will be fined into prison (covid camps) and you'll be lucky to have any freedom or autonomy at all. They want the world to fall in line. No one is safe until we all wake up from the fever dream they are infecting us with. Turn off your tv and go talk to people in your life. Draw your own conclusions together, think for yourselves.

I had covid, my natural immunity is far superior to a shot that only has an efficacy of about 20 weeks. Which is why they are already talking about a 4th booster. People still have immunity to SARS-cov1 18 years later and the two viruses are 90% similar.

From the CDC....." we have no record of an unvaccinated person spreading COVID after recovering from COVID." Cant say that about the vaccinated super spreaders.

So do steroids and antibiotics if treated early with much fewer side effects. But still no early treatment package 2 years later pre hospitalization.

Also, Why no push for regeneron when it has been shown to last 8 months with virtually no long term side effects at all.

This should not be a one size fits all approach.

It’s refreshing to see someone take a common sense approach to the Covid jab, rather than most people’s “everyone must get the jabs regardless of their age or health status! Anyone who doesn’t is a selfish murderer!” The jab isn’t for everyone, and there are definitely many people who would benefit more from their natural immunity than taking the experimental shot.

Which was all fine and dandy when it was "2 Jabs is the full dose".

Now its "You need the 3rd Booster, and we're gonna literally take way your freedoms unless you get it, and also you will deffo need a 4th booster soon, and maybe a 5th booster we dont know, and we're gonna keep taking away your freedoms"

The Science is literally still out on whether the Jabs affect Pregnancy, yet Scotland is denying IVF treatment to couples if theyre not jabbed. That includes treatment thats already been paid for, AND ALREADY IN PROGRESS.

I am Double Jabbed. I believe getting jabbed is the right thing to do. But SOMETHING out there doesnt add up in my mind, and I dont know what it is.

I had two jabs and had some quite scary side effects (chest pains, heart palpitations). Six months later and I still haven’t recovered 100%.

I asked a question on Reddit about it, to see who else had experienced it and to get some solidarity and advice, and got my post deleted for “spreading anti-vax propaganda and misinformation.” I’ve even had people in my real life try and gaslight me to my face and tell me I didn’t experience it.

Now I don’t want the booster I’m being called an anti-vaxxer despite having literally every other vaccine offered over my lifetime. This has gone too far, I hate it. It’s so messed up. No more jabs for me, if I get covid and die then so be it.

All this under the "gaslight-y" pretense of "Its your choice"...

Ah you're gonna have to actually show me some evidence of prison time or threats of fines. And during a pandemic social alienation is a bit typical of those not willing to get vaccinated.

And I mean it is your choice, and all choices come with consequences and etc and you have to own up and deal with them because if you're freedoms step on others freedom of choice then YOU'RE the one restricting freedoms.

If someone gets the vaccine and booster so they don't die from already being vulnerable then others not getting it, not trying to avoid it, getting sick, and letting it mutate to overcome the vaccine is not only making it worse on those who CAN'T get the vaccine and will die if they catch the disease etc but invalidating the freedom of others who did get the vaccine to protect themselves and others.

In a pandemic it's what's best for everyone; not the individual, you're feelings don't trump any number of lives that are at risk.

At a certain point, we need to move out of the Pandemic. 90-something % of the UK are AT LEAST Single Jabbed. 85%+ Double Jabbed. How much more do you want here?

And I mean it is your choice, and all choices come with consequences and etc and you have to own up and deal with them

"Get the Jab, or we're gonna make your life unliveable"

Choices under duress ARENT choices...

you're freedoms step on others freedom of choice then YOU'RE the one restricting freedoms.

"Restricting MY freedom bad, restricting non-jabbed people's freedom good". Come on man, be better than that...

If someone gets the vaccine and booster... blah blah that entire paragraph

Buddy. You can die from a cold, we dont have lockdowns and forced flu jabs. "The Science" says you need about 85% for herd immunity to kick in, we're AT THAT POINT.

Quick side-question: Would you be okay with having anti-vaxxers have to take tests everyday, and if they're positive they isolate, and if they're negative they go out and live normally with no bullshit?

In a pandemic it's what's best for everyone; not the individual, you're feelings don't trump any number of lives that are at risk.

Amazing thing about Human Rights: They apply ALL THE TIME. Body Autonomy exists...

[–]tenchineuro 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think most people got the vaccine because it was the scientificly proven thing to do.

No, they had not read the science, they were simply forced to do so to stay employed.

They have been clear that the intent is to make it so difficult to be unvaccinated that people are forced to do it.

And a newsflash for true believers in science, there is a reproducibility crisis that reaches even to the hard sciences.

  • Most scientists 'can't replicate studies by their peers'
  • Science is facing a "reproducibility crisis" where more than two-thirds of researchers have tried and failed to reproduce another scientist's experiments, research suggests.

  • This is frustrating clinicians and drug developers who want solid foundations of pre-clinical research to build upon.

  • According to a survey published in the journal Nature last summer, more than 70% of researchers have tried and failed to reproduce another scientist's experiments.

The reproducibility crisis is worse in psychology and medicine. This should be worrying I would think, but what do I know, eh?

I might be less likely to seek healthcare in general, or to wait much longer before I consider something to be enough of a problem that I need to go to a doctor, but certainly here in the UK I think it would be difficult to use the COVID vaccines as an example of that.

I think it all comes down to fear. There is so much fear going around, and honestly I'm not even slightly worried about it. I had covid a while back and I'm a severe asthmatic, and barely had an issue with it. Just felt like a long lasting cold that also took my smell and taste away for a month. I understand a lot of people have issues with it, but the large majority won't.

Everyone should be more concerned about the fear being used against them. There's tons of conspiracy theories that are really ridiculous, but if you say anything negative about the vaccine you're lumped into them. It's like most don't remember, or know our governments have done some really bad things in the past, and those were ridiculed as conspiracy theory at the time too. Fear is often used as a tool to control people by our governments, just look at the last 20 years and all the little freedoms they took by using fear. They just keep taking little bits (for our safety) at a time, and it didn't seem that bad till you look at the bigger picture and what all they've taken. Just look at what people are willing to do for safety from this virus.

My main issue is there is no liability for injury with this vaccine. For example if I did get effected by the side effects (which I understand is unlikely for the ones we currently know about) who will take care of my family? It not worth the risk since I know covid barely effected me. Meanwhile It's being forced on so many and it you do get the supposed low chance (which went from zero and has keep rising) side effects, you're screwed. If you say something about the side effects the response is something like "it's a really small chance just man up". Nevermind that this "vaccine" has the highest chance (by a large margin) of side effects when compared to other vaccines most people get in thier life. Then it only lowers your symptoms, but it's being promoted like a shield against spreading or catching it. The whole thing just seems off to me.

If you are in the United States then you or your family simply apply here:

https://www.hrsa.gov/cicp

So far there have been 5,630 applications related to Covid vaccines and countermeasures and they are currently being processed.

Overall, this system is way better than waiting around for years for a class action suit to go through and then getting free coupons for 50% off your next Covid booster shot or whatever.

Also, the vaccines are a shied against both catching and spreading Covid. Like a shield they decrease your risk of getting stabbed and splashing your blood on the people around you. Then don't completely eliminate the risk.

Yeah I am not sure you get pain and suffering. However, you also don't have to pay half of everything to your lawyer. So that is also something to consider.

I don't really feel like not taking or taking the vaccine means you don't take good care of yourself, you can still be a well put together man who is in good physical and mental health who doesn't want the vaccine and I don't think that means he's taking poor care of himself. People are looking for any way possible to stretch as far as they can to bash other people

[–]DetectiveJonny 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Irrelevant post because, I know many many men who m have taken the vaccine.

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Self care is important for both women and men.

I've been vaccinated twice. I got vaccinated by my PCP. How did I find out they offered the shot? He happens to be my mom's doctor too. His female office manager called my mom to ask her if she wanted the shot. She didn't call me, but my mom told me they offer it.

Are men really less likely to take it or are they just not serviced by the medical profession to the same extent as women.

They're smart. They don't want blood clots, bell's palsey and myocarditis.

[–]MrSmokescreenMan 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men of ages between 12 and 20ish are also more likely to die of the vaccine than covid. (Australia)

Real men don't get fake vaccines when the chance of death is only .01%... Men do dangerous things all the time that have much higher changes of death. Last time I counted at the gym, it was 10 to 1 men to women.

[–]pacsatonifil 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No matter the reason it’s horrible and too many young men are dying. This is why men need male only spaces and organizations and not to tell them they are less than or worse than. Just to help them.

Gender discrepancy where men fair worse - it's men's fault

Gender discrepancy where women fair worse - it's men's fault

IMO there's a lot of ridicule about men looking after themselves. If a man feels unwell people laugh and say "haha he must have the man flu!", if a man feels depressed people will again ridicule and say "man up and stop being so weak!". This will discourage him from seeking suitable help.

Yet if a woman feels unwell physically or mentally, no matter how trivial, she is always encouraged to have it checked out and noone will make jokes or ridicule her.

Society treats women much better.

For what it's worth, I'm male and I've had the 2 vaccinations and the booster.

I wouldn't have used that phrase, although much of the article does seem genuinely concerned with men's health, so I guess that's something.

[–]RagGnarRocky 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've heard more women talk about their refusal to get the vaccine because of the "dangers to reproduction". We don't need more of you anyway, Sniffany.

The difference was 4%. If you control for jobs in health care and education I'd bet that 4% disappears.

I'm in the pro-vax crowd but a landscaper or roofer are not at the same risk as a schoolteacher or nurse.

[–]frustr8tion 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually, after reading the article, it does imply the psychology behind the decision making basically comes down to indoctrinated low self worth from society telling men they ain't shit.

Fucking click bait.

It’s easier to be the best female Apple Pie maker in your town than it is the be the best man at anything in your street.

Think about that for a minute, let it sink in.

What I mean is - it is absolutely exhausting trying to be the best at your job as a man… but for my mother and her mother, if you could make a good Apple Pie, you were hot shit…

I would throw all my tools and business in the river in 2 seconds flat if I could stay at home and bake food.

Fuck…. I wish I had a vagine in 1960

No wonder Betty White lived so long… best gender in the best years…

Yeah but women are cowardly. They run away from everything. If I were a woman I'd probably be happier, but also more embarrassed.

[–]maxthyson 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Going to the doctor seems like a waste of time. Last time I called because I was coughing and puking snot and slime for 3 weeks and the nurse on the phone said “what do you want me to do about it?”. Wonderful Denmark with government healthcare 👏

[–]Historical-Friend-41 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No that still means they dont take good care of themselves cause that shit is garbage.

[–]Henchforhire -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just don't see the point of taking something that doesn't really protect you against COVID-19 with you being able to still get it and spread it around and needing booster shots to keep from getting it.
