Yes, there are some men who genuinely prefer heavier women. You might even see some moderately attractive men dating them. It's not always genuine, though. In some of those relationships, the guy might have a fat fetish (I hear fat women hate this), they might be insecure and choose someone who is less likely to leave them, they might like that fatter women put more effort (e.g., cooking, cleaning, better head game), or they might be poor and not have the resources to attract women with options. I think it's rare for the man to not see any flaw with a woman being bigger.

I'm chubby and have never had any problem being regarded as attractive. Being fatter means you likely have more pronounced secondary sex characteristics as a woman. Larger breasts, wider hips etc.

I don't think it's true that fat people don't go for fat people though. I like thick people with huge thighs. It's just my thing so I tend to get a more instant physical attraction to larger people. It's the whole teddy bear thing.

Fat people could be attractive to certain people that are looking for specific things that they might have.

Examples:

Men that like big tits and big asses would probably date a fat chick. Why? Because she has that. Would they likely prefer her with firmer breasts and ass, and a tight waist? Most definitely, in most cases.

Depends what you mean by chubby. Obesity is always an unattractive trait, but women are literally not supposed to look shredded and are naturally supposed to carry a bit more body fat. If they are at the higher end of a healthy BMI and look a little chubby, yeah it’s not going to negatively effect their attractiveness as much. Men are not built to be carrying around a bunch of extra body fat and they have to be fairly sedentary and overeating way too much to end up anywhere approaching chubby. Women’s bodies fight to carry at least 20% body fat.

There’s no consensus on chubby anyway. One persons “chubby” is another persons “fat” is another persons “thin”.

Shockingly, not everyone considers BMI and weight the end all be all decider of attraction. I have pretty severe body dysmorphia, and I used to really internalize the idea that I’m worthless as a romantic partner unless I was perfectly thin, fit, and weighed X pounds. That mentality held me back more than my weight ever has, I was constantly depressed and would refuse to believe any romantic partner who liked me.

I’m at my “heaviest”, and in my happiest, healthiest relationship.
