Older generations had plenty of sex. Abortion was prevelant in the the 1800s and completely legal. Pregnant brides were common as were single mothers giving birth. They named the father and they were forced to take responsibility for their children. People break up and move on. You can't expect anyone to be a virgin and to judge them if you support sex for yourself outside of marriage.

Older generations were not homogenous within themselves nor with previous generations.

So, the answer is probably yes. Some people somewhere had this attitude. Maybe a lot of people did at one point or area. But hardly everyone.

People in the late 19th century Oneida works were living a religious swinger lifestyle, basically. Was this the norm? Probably not.

How sexually active you are matters. It probably matters more for women. There is likely some element of evolved instinct in this.

However, the bulk of this is socialization; and the specific context matters greatly in terms of 'how many are too many,' for either gender.

How active women (or men) are varies greatly in America by region, demographics, etc. So does 'how many are too man'. It would be nice to have a nuanced conversation on this sometime on PPD, without incel virgins idolizing female virginity as a revenge fantasy, and women getting defensive and asserting that body counts of any number are always irrelevant. That is obviously silly.

There's a huge middle ground here. We should meet on it. It's nice. Has grass, trees, and shit.

It was easier for them to get sex and relationships as men. Now it's pretty damn difficult for a good part of men so there is more talk about it. There was a female surplus. Today's losers would be diving deep 50 years ago.

Just take Simpsons as an example: it was relatable that a loser fat man who underperforms in life has a house, car, wife and 2.5 kids with his single income. That kind of show could never air in 2022 because nobody can relate to that. Men from that era had it easier.
