Have you guys heard of the extreme male variability hypothesis?

Basically, men are less risk adverse then woman, more likely to take chances, and more likely to succeed or fail spectacularly.

It doesn't just end there though, it kind of applies to all aspects of life. When placed on a bell curve men tend to sit on either extreme end while women tend to sit in the average all clustered together.

That is an amazing thing to say considering that even in Ancient Greece there were female philosophers, or that the first wife of the "oh such a patriarchal monster" Mohammed was basically an educated businesswoman, or that there were a lot of female university students and teachers and even founders in "oh so oppressive and horrendous for women" islamic countries even back in the ("horrendous for women") Medieval times, etc., not even mentioning later Europe, requiring comprehensive education for all noblemen and noblewomen (and providing none for poor women OR men) (like a queen ruling a country or a duchess ruling a duchy could be denied education and not know basic math, I could imagine that). But if they learned at least a shit about history (or islam, for that matter), they couldn't continue with their lies and ideology, could they?

I also find it interesting how it degrades and simply erases said learned women from history. Feminism doesn't want women to have education, it wants them to be brainwashed and victimized, so it lies about them not being able to get education, hiding the fact that women could be better than this.

There are two things here that I think are generally not talked about. The first is that men did not create and build these inventions on the planet soley for themselves but also to better the lives of women and their children.

The other aspect that is missing is that while women may not have been able to invent things the support they provided men, who were risking their lives to build the massive infrastructures of the modern world, would not have been possible without women in the home. Women deserve a lot of credit for the things they also accomplished by supporting men in the building of the world for the people thingy loved.

28 men died in different accidents attempting powered-flight. Eventually the Wright brothers built upon that knowledge to build the first aeroplane.
The lessons they learnt were written in the blood of the men who came before them.

Women invent things less often because they do not take equal amount of risks.
The first woman scientist to get nobel prize (Madam Curie) also died from leukemia caused by radiation. (She discovered radioactivity).

Scientific discoveries come at a hefty price. How many women are truly willing to pay the price?

Did a lack of education and being seen as "capable" hold women back in the past? Yes, absolutely. Is that the only factor? Not even remotely.

Invention requires risk taking and singleminded dedication to a task. Men by no means hold a monopoly here, but it has been repeatedly demonstrated that those traits correlate strongly with gender.

As always, it's important to consider that correlation only in the aggregate. You can't grab a man and a woman and know that the man is going to be more inventive.

Access to capital resources. Women have gained equal access to education, the majority of the billionaires in the world are men. For most of human history, we've pretty violently held onto resource rights and property ownership. It wasn't all that long ago historically that women weren't allowed to have income of their own, weren't allowed to own property at all.

So going from like, zero ownership to access to capital resources that could be used to actually take an idea and not only invent a thing that works but then also invent or develop a means to produce that thing via capital resources?

Its a matter of access.

It''s simple. Men on average are more Interested in "things" whilst woman on average are more Interested in "people". That's why fields such as engineering, anything involving vehicles and maths/physics etc is dominated by men and woman are more present in fields involving people, such as teaching, nurses/healthcare, hairdresser/stylist etc. You're obviously going to have more room for inventions when working on "objects"

I question how relevant it is that men invented more.

Firstly, at many points in history, education discriminated more in favour of boys and men.

Add to that that pregnancy and childrearing will probably affect the mother's career over the father's.

I think there are more important issues for MRAs than comparing which sex invented what.

Women were NOT excluded from Universities in the world or the US. So the education bit doesn't stand up. But hey, philosophers don't really invent shit.... so maybe it's not the whole can't get an education part.. might be the whole women have literally always gravitated to social sciences which isn't exactly a hot bed for inventing.

At some point women really need to get on board and realize yes, we are different, and a lot of what is being complained about it a direct result of interests and the actions we take because of our interests. Nearly 200 years later, and women are still flocking to social sciences, which is fine, just stop complaining you're not an engineer or paid like one.

Women were not neglected education, they just simply chose fields of study that simply do not result in a lot of inventing or innovating.

So they are now piling into universities at rates faster than men, because most men can just go and DO. They don’t need a degree to be a successful plumber, carpenter, any of the trades. For several thousands of years women dominated completely the light textile industry (making cloth - weaving and creating thread from spinning raw materials). There was no technological improvement for about 8 thousands of years and then someone (probably a man) invented the spinning wheel during the Middle Ages. Skip forward a few centuries and a man invented the Spinning Jenny - because he took pity on his wife and daughters wasting their time. In short order the women's industry was taken over by male inventions that did stuff 100x - 1000x more efficiently in what we call the first industrial revolution.

A lot of low hanging fruit there because every other industry had been having technological advancements spaced out over thousands of years. A lot of the inventors didn't have an education (because there wasn't any such thing before a thousand years ago or so).

Inventors are almost always men. Doesn't mean men are almost always inventors. But yeah, it's strongly sexed.

In answer to your question, it is the case with most mammals that the males perform and the females select. Men are thus driven to achieve and invent very much more than women. This motivation is the bulk of the difference, though there are other factors.

When given the opportunity, women have performed just as well as men.

Women have commanded empires since Ancient Egypt (but unfortunately they had to pretend to be men, because women rulers were simply not accepted). This is seen in European societies as well. Where women had more parity at the time (Vedic society) they were known to be great philosophers and theologians as well.

Women have ruled even in Europe - so many Great Monarchs have been women! Catherine the Great, Elizabeth I, Jadwiga, Hurrem Sultan, Wu Zeitan etc from all over the world. Notice that their achievements in these time periods are in the only prominent fields of the time. There were time periods where learned women (and even men) were accused to heresy and witchcraft and burned alive.

After more women began to get universal education (at least in the West), they became prolific writers. Mary Shelley, Austen sisters, Woolf etc and their contribution to Western literature cannot be minimised.

Women were not allowed in the military (and women didn’t make that rule). But when they were allowed, women served in the Red Army in droves and fought wars. Historically, even when considered infantile, Joan of Arc led her army to victory and when expected to be ‘homely’ Queen of Jhansi roused her entire country to a massive rebellion.

Strictly in terms of invention, there have been few prominent women like Marie Curie and Rosalind Franklin. As a side, how shocking that Franklin’s extraordinary discovery that changed the field of science was stolen, and the men rewarded with Nobel Prizes? How many other women might have gone unrecognised as such? It’s certainly plausible.

Coming to modern times, women have achieved better parity. And it shows! Women are prominent actors, philanthropists, politicians (heads of state, IMF, World Bank etc), CEOs (Hersheys, GAP, Nykaa).

And to think during all of human history, they were seen as the worse sex. And to think women only got the opportunity to VOTE 120 years ago (black women just 80 years ago). And to think women only got universal education a few decades ago (only in limited parts of the world).

Women have actually had more opportunity. Men have been expected to carry the burden of providing for the home, and if they had money the woman had servants to do the housework. The man would be taking care of the family business (or off to war), while the women would be free at home with the nannies and cooks to entertain herself and her friends.

Not trying to be rude here but women haven’t been ahead of men for decades. Only the last 10-20 years women have come ‘ahead’ in certain countries. And I wouldn’t call it massively outperform. In the Netherlands for example this was actually the first year with more female PhD doctorates than men (something like 52% to 48%) but honestly I don’t know the exact numbers for other countries. However I certainly know it’s not decades. Women did not even have financial autonomy in the 1950’s, so it’s just not possible.

They are simply shooting themselves in the foot saying that; - after all if a group is oppressed for nearly all of recorded history as they say, then they aren't really intellectually or creatively equal to men.

Regardless - education could be given at home, and women's colleges had existed since the 19th century, though most of them had lower standards for women than men's colleges, which is telling in and of itself.

Also, it must be pointed out that men still dominate those professions and careers wherein women are the majority or gravite more towards to, such as clothes, art, writing and music (songwriting, singing, composing).

If a mother has an education it affects her children in positive ways. This isn't necessarily the case if the father has an education.

They stood under another pressure than women. It was easier for them to invent things to make their family or company's life easier.Most women didn't have the same pressure and possibilities to invent such things in the same manner. I guess they invented many things in and around the household that her man made profitably or he found a market for it.

I think today it is still the same. Most women don't have the time, the know-how, or the right pressure to invent as many things as men do.

the education system problem still happens for example in some parts of India where girls have to skip school and drop out of school due to periods (they have to sit in a hut during their period so have less days of going to school than male counterparts). This part not being accounted for properly creates inequality.

We have same education rights for the past 50yrs right? In fact women are given certain advantages to put them forward, still men have more patents than women.

Women may not have invented all the major things, but still they have a huge contribution towards it. They stayed at home and took care of domestic work so that men could focus on their research/work. They should give themselves credit for that

I'm not sure about that actually. I Do think some of the lack of education a while ago for women was a problem for lack of inventions then but now a days, there isn't really an excuse.
