Hollywood has been pushing this for years.

Remember Get Hard starring Will Ferrel and Kevin Hart? The premise of the movie is that a white man is going to prison and doesn't want to get raped.

The whole movie is just rape joke after rape joke after rape joke.

This was my immediate thought when I saw the trailer. I doubt they would have done this scene with Natalie Portman.

Sure thing Scarlett, keep harping on about how you were treated "like a piece of meat" in Iron Man when you were playing a femme fatale spy who's job was to lure Stark in. Totally worse than every male character in Marvel movies ending up shirtless or naked. The worst you had to do was show your bra in that car ride with Favreau.

I had low expectations for this movie, but then Taika went and showed me I was still aiming too high...

We’ve all heard, seen and read through the sheer amount of outrage showing any amount of a woman’s skin in media always causes. I’ve recently been binging endless articles, YouTube videos and whatever there is that demonize sexualizing women in media.

And yet, people still think the sexualization of women in media is normalized. I’ve even seen it here on Reddit. Let’s be real, with the sheer amount of outrage female nudity in media causes, is it really normalized anymore? If it was normalized…

• Euphoria wouldn’t’ve received all the outrage over its sexual themes

• Transformers wouldn’t’ve received all that outrage over a not even ten second long scene

• The author of Fire Force wouldn’t’ve been met with tons of outrage over sexualizing his female characters

• The Seven Deadly Sins wouldn’t’ve caused so much controversy for its sexual themes

• Cuties wouldn’t’ve caused the massive, and I mean massive outrage we all saw

• Anime wouldn’t constantly be labeled as animated pornography over like the same dozen anime

• I wouldn’t be met with so many articles and videos that call it out, demonize it or demand that it ends

What’s even more hilarious is that these same people went silent when shit like Magic Mike, Free and Yuri On Ice came out, and they will without a doubt be just as silent at the new Thor movie.

Went online shopping the other day with my girlfriend. They had "plus size" women, very skinny women, women with deformities or impairments, women with unique physical features etc.

Went on the men section because I was looking for some underwear, ofcourse, all professional models who go to the gym 2 hours a day, 5 days a week, with a professional trainer, amazing bodies, strict diets etc.

Good for them. But proves there is no "body positivity " for men. You can call a man fat and bald and if you retaliate, you're a monster. Call a woman fat, you're suddenly a disgrace of a human being, even if the woman is fat.

No need to call anyone fat, but also, why is fat an insult?

Without watching that clip because I'm at work, my general take on these things is the following (I'm a man btw).

When a character like Thor is objectified in that way, we the audience see the singular character of Thor being objectified. This isn't a common occurrence and we can also just watch something else if it bothers us.

When a female character is objectified, we the audience see women being objectified. We see WOMEN being put in their place for the simple reason that a woman in a show usually is a stand in for all women. Also, you'd be hard pressed to find a piece of media that isn't objectifying women.

So does the idea of Thor being objectified bother me as a man? No, it doesn't reflect on how society views my entire gender and if I'm concerned about it, I can indulge in the vast majority of media where this isn't a concern.

Got that? It's not OK to objectify a woman, because doing so harms all women. But it's perfectly OK to objectify a man, because only that one man is victimised, other men aren't harmed and we can just look away to watch something else if we don't like it.

I've often said: feminism could not exist without hypocrisy. Every day feminists prove me right.

1 Hemsworth is hot. I'd love to have the motivation to get into better shape but that motivation is stuck on "average" xD

2 it's Thor. Even historically when he's depicted as being fat he was something to adore.

3 his character has made enough comments of his own to make it acceptable in my opinion. If Hemsworth wasn't up to it, it wouldn't be there. And quite frankly, if it's something that needs dealing with in society, it being done in the film helps that cause as it's then an example to be used.
