Down here in South America. The cops around here searched for an anonymous person threatening- online- a famous female singer. The cops found the criminal who sent the death threats: a young woman in her 20s. I believe she was let go after being deemed "not dangerous". A simple web search will give you a few females threatening people who have been caught. The feminist narrative lies without guilt. Fuck 'em.

Sexism is everyones problem to deal with. It doesn't matter if it's discrimination against a woman or against a man. Both are completely unacceptable and need to be dealt with. Shoving all the responsibility for on to a single gender is going to cause that gender to feel more isolated and that the rest of the country/world doesn't give a shit, which in turn could lead some of them to more extreme views/groups.

The problem is that I don't see a lot of whatever-they-mean-by-hate directed against women.

I just don't choose to spend time with people who would be deliberately and knowingly unfair to other people in a way that could reasonably be characterised as "hate", whether that's men on women or women on men or anyone on anyone. I think this is one of the bigger problems with this sort of politics. If you're a female soccer player, I wouldn't find it that hard to believe that you're going to face some grief and hassle you shouldn't have to. Soccer in the UK is at least in part the preserve of... well, the kind of lowbrow knuckle-dragger who might well say something he shouldn't. I believe you (though I'd expect death threats to be vanishingly rare).

The problem is, given I'm not involved in soccer there's really nothing I can do about it. My professional life involves an industry that's much more progressive and liberal - often to a fault, hence my presence here - and the idea of anybody saying anything that could reasonably be construed as hate is absolutely hilarious. In my entire career I have heard, secondhand, of one incident in which someone made what could reasonably be described as a racist statement to someone else. I have never heard of anyone making any sexist statement or deliberately disadvantaging a woman, in twenty-plus years.

I won't go into the details as it'll make me very identifiable, but on a couple of occasions I have been asked to investigate exactly this sort of thing - for money - with the expectation that we'd find lots of exciting examples of terrible behaviour. We didn't. I really went digging and failed to find anything. Not that I didn't find much: I didn't find anything. I had lots of conversations with women - dozens of them - who said "well, it's unionised work; we get the same money as everyone else and everyone's fine."

Look, if these young women who are into soccer are getting hassle, that's horrible and I'm more than happy to tell the bad guys to shut up. Most people are. It's just that most people - most men - just won't ever find themselves in a position to, because frankly in the world in general it is not anything like as bad as people make out.

I like to think I've done that here on r/mensrights, where we absolutely do see some misbehaviour that doesn't help us any more than it helps the world's staunchest feminist. Even so, generalising about men and trying to lecture me in the way that poster seeks to does nothing more than deepen my disregard for identity politics and the hypocrisy of what we might see as mainstream feminism. It's making enemies in a way it doesn't need to and that is not helpful to anyone.

Death and rape threats are VILE, but constanty grinding away with this only-men-are-the-problem narrative is so destructive. My guess is that there's a relatively small group of boys, mostly living in their parents basements, who proliferate the horrible sexist stuff, but they're the ones who never go outside, so exactly who the billboard is speaking to is anyone's guess.

It was exactly the same after England lost to Italy in the football. Front page of every media outlet reporting an explosion of online racist abuse because the guys who missed the penalties were black; apparently the country was gripped by a fascist pandemic. A year later six pale gollums were dragged out and arrested by the police for sending hate messages. SIX of them - sent the entire country into convulsions, because the media were tripping over themselves to hype a non-existent race war.
