I'm waiting for the day that men have the equal opportunity to marry up and be stay at home dads

[–]tr33lover1482 64 points65 points66 points 3 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

It's funny, I sometimes read stories on shit like true off my chest and then the gf or wife complains that they are the only one working and the bf or husband doesn't have a job and just stays at home and they just all call him lazy, a leech and tell her to dump him because he is lazy and he is not worth her and shit, but then you get stories where to gf or wife stays home all day and nobody bats an eye, it's really weird

[–]ExMuzzy 15 points16 points17 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Even when there are no kids involved and the woman is stay at home, the man must share some chores with her but when it's the other way round the man must do all the chores. My household chores vary between 1-3 hours/day throughout the week mainly depending on what I'm cooking, it's not that hard.

A man earning money doesn't seem to hold much or any weight in terms of contribution.

[–]anothergoodbook 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That irritates me to no end. My husband and I have 4 kids. We both wanted me to stay home and now that they’re older I work a little bit. I don’t expect my husband to do anything at home. He does - because he wants to. But I don’t ask him to because he works too damn hard at work to come home and work there also.

[–]Nihi1986 23 points24 points25 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

The sad part is that the man might be struggling to find a job or even with his health. Anyway, it's not weird, stay at home wives have always been normalized. Men who do that will most likely end up homeless, honestly.

[–]smfuel871 points 3 years ago* [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

Crazy story, after our second child...like one year after, my ex wife suddenly wanted a "career". I was working and "didn't want to be dependant on me". So she no shit divorced me and married an unemployed homeless guy with no teeth just so someone will stay he and watch our kids while she gets to wear the head of household pants. 12 years later,im still paying them half of my income in child support.

[–]World_Renowned_Guy 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That’s the second saddest thing I’ve read today. What a crappy situation.

[–]LowPath448 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Disaster.

[–]Nihi1986 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's so fucked up...they just can't respect and value hard working men.

[–]smfuel87 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Where do you think all the stunng, brave, strong and independent welfare money comes from? Single moms?

[–]FappingFop 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your comment made me realize how odd it is that companies, like the tech company I work for, are constantly trying to hire women to increase their representation up to 50% (I think we're pretty close to that now, with only about 35% in engineering which is ABSURDLY high compared to most companies in STEM), yet 30% of women with children are stay at home mothers and 20% without are stay at home wives. If a company's hiring reflected the labor market, then it should consider the number of women who are choosing to be stay at home wives/mothers.

Ya totally not cool to be a house husband. It's emasculating actually

[–]smfuel87 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Best of both worlds.

[–]NeoNotNeo[S] 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s not weird. It’s grooming men to have unhealthy and shorter lives in exchange for the glory of sex. It shows the fraud of contemporary western culture regarding fairness in gender issues and feminism

[–]EviessVeralan 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

To be completely fair. I've seen a few of these stories too, and usually, the guy they're complaining about isn't doing anything at home except for his videogame of choice while the woman has to work and do most of the cleaning.

[–]ApprehensiveMail8 15 points16 points17 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I'm sure the women telling these stories are never exaggerating /s

[–]EviessVeralan 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Wow. What a coincidence that when men complain about women not pulling weight its always true but when a woman does it, the bitch must be lying. /s

[–]denisc9918 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Hmmm, is saying he's lying an exaggeration of him actually saying exaggerating?

[–]EviessVeralan 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Saying that women must by in large be exaggerating, that is saying they're not being truthful on purpose.

[–]denisc9918 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

He's referring to the women that you've seen a few of, and now you're exaggerating that into must by in large be. "By in large" is a lot more than "a few".

So now you've exaggerated everything he said except "I'm sure" and the "/s"..

I suppose now you'll come back at me with "He's absolutely positive" and "/ss".

[–]EviessVeralan 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I didnt say any of what youre pretending i did. So feel free to comment back to what i actually said and not your imagination. Ill happily respond then.

[–]denisc9918 -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

LOL, I quoted you! all the words are right there on your screen.

[–]ApprehensiveMail8 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I didn't say men's complaints are always valid.

Most people, across all genders, overestimate their own contributions and underestimate the contributions of others. This is the fundamental attribution error.

And the only reason I said "women" instead of "people" is because you failed to mention seeing any males or nonbinary people complaining about their partners in your original comment.

If you had, my sarcasm would have applied equally to them.

Weird how you are now reacting to a double standard that only exists in this conversation because you created it.

[–]zastale 32 points33 points34 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The sun will have exploded.

[–]djc_tech 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Women are outpacing men in education and jobs. You may get your chance. However if you look at stats ind sting sites men swipe right 45-50% if the time and women swipe right 5% of the time. So they’re all vying for the top 5% of men then complain when they can’t get one to stay committed.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I also swipe 5%; but I'm looking for a good match and intelligence, values, skills, etc

I rank highly in all those myself but women value top in terms of looks, whiteness, status, and money he makes available to here; making the whole thing super frustrating.

I'm better with kids than 90% of women I've met, and also a lawyer. Unfortunately I was cursed into being a man

[–]smfuel87 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Dude, most women are pretty terrible with children if you pay attention. It's crazy how men can be great with kids but the culture we live in completely ignores it.

[–]djc_tech 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah I agree. Finding one who is a good mom is hard. Can’t say how many sketchy single moms I’ve met on dating sites. And if they don’t allow the dad at least 50% custody I ghost them

[–]smfuel87 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't worry though. They will find some complicit asshole to extort the father of her children for drug money. It's all about teamwork.

[–]Educational_Bet_6606 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They do exist but not as common.

The kid show rugrats had this idea.

[–]volleyballbeach[🍰] 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I want stay at home dads to be normalized

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Same here

[–]elliebellrox 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Honestly I’d love that. I am miserable if I’m not working. I’d love having my partner be the stay at home one that is organised and put together

[–]Drayenn 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As much as i would like it, i wouldnt. I dont want to rely on someone for my retirement fund if they can leave me at any time.

[–]griggori 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I basically did that. I’m a stay at home dad that does a little farming on the side. My wife makes x10 my farm revenue. We’re rare but we exist.

My example should not be taken as some sort of repudiation of the privilege that is much more common for females.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nice well congrats!!!

How did you manage to get lucky?

[+]TheCuntatReception 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You sound like a feminist

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Do you mean that as a compliment or an insult?

[+]TheCuntatReception 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Neither. Second wave feminism had a lot of malarkey on the agenda, but at the core the movement argued for equal rights in employment and educational opportunities (men and women able to secure the same salary and positions as male counterparts), as well as equal parental responsibility (men and women interchangeably expected to act as sole child care) or at least the social expectations of these roles to be more fluid.

Meaning that a man acting in the role of house-husband and stay at home father, so that the wife/mother can then be free to earn and provide for the family, is exactly the ideal of feminism in the 60s and 70s.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ok then I guess I am a feminist on that definition.

Instead we have a situation where culturally women are freed from gender roles and men are held to them, and economically where everyone has to work now

[–]TheCuntatReception 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sort of. I'd argue that both sexes are freed up to explore the opposite role now. So long as they have a partner whom from the start agrees to accept the roles assigned.

The flip side is that men who wish to take on more traditionally feminine duties, are bound some societal pressure to provide for and protect the family unit. Because biologically and historically these roles were assigned to the sex with the traits preferred to get the species safely and efficiently reproduced. Otherwise know as " You aren't a man unless .." and other such nonsense.

Women are not much different in that when they take on more traditionally masculine roles, ie financially provide for family unit, physically protect from family unit from harm, they are met with pushback from society to adhere to normal feminine roles and they are accused of depriving the family of the traditional role of a mother and wife.

[–]smfuel87 -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You can. Marry a single mother. Some want you to stay home and watch her kids while she attends free government paid single mommy nursing school. Since her ex husband and government are already covering living expenses, it could be a sweet deal for you.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I meant marrying a successful partner and having your own kids together. The way women can because of how anti-male our society is

[–]smfuel87 -5 points-4 points-3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You're advocating marrying a feminist and expecting to keep your kids?

That "successful" woman is gonna take your kids and half of your income, throw the kids into daycare and become even more "successful" with all of the freebies the govt is going to throw at her.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not a RadFem; a regular person with a job. If I can't I'll just hire a surrogate

[–]pasta4u 54 points55 points56 points 3 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

In 5 years both those kids will be in school for 6-8 hours a day. The woman has it made. She will have an easy 4-6 hours a day to her self to do whatever it she wants. Unlike the 1950s we have much more efficient washing machines , vacuums that clean their selfs and so on and so forth.

So yea of course she is happy. She will be retired in her late 30s and literally just have to spend 30 minutes a day or so cooking for her kids.

[–]rm-rd 37 points38 points39 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Say that on most of reddit, and someone will start talking about the difficult of "inventory management" and "logistics" and "nutritional requirements" as if it's hard to not just eat pop-tarts.

A lot of these trad mums tend to homeschool their children, so not much of a break there haha.

[–]pasta4u 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe but that is really good for the children. Smartest people I know where home schooled

[–]elebrin 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Unless she has more children.

[–]pasta4u -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If she wants them. That is her choice and again it's only for a few years. If any as the oldest child ages up they will then likely be forced to help with younger siblings

[–]djc_tech -3 points-2 points-1 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, but she can still handle stuff. There’s a lot going household. Shopping, taking care of the house, scheduling, appointments etc. My mother did side jobs way back in the day as bookkeeping and art work - she was a talented artist and logo designer. With the side gig economy even bigger now it’s easy to find something during the day that’s flexible

[–]pasta4u 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

She can do side hussles but she doesn't have too. Also she can pursue what she wants instead being required to keep steady pay

Shopping is as simple as surfing a website and waiting for a delivery. Laundry is as simple as filling a machine every half an hour and then switching it to another machine and then folding. Cleaning the house is as easy as having a roommate on schedule.

She is going to have 30 to 40 hours a week to do 4-8 hours of work.

[–]djc_tech 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My mom was always busy and was a decent caretaker for three kids and took care of all transport to activities and home stuff. Pets, kids, housework chores, medical appointments etc.

I see no problem with it. If it’s not your thing don’t look for a traditional woman. Look for a more “modern one” that likes taking a masculine role in the relationship. I’m not about to bash her lifestyle and its great for the kids

[–]pasta4u 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I never said there was a problem with it. Infact if I was a woman it's what I would prefer to do. Every year new technology makes it even easier.

Think of what a house wife in 1850 need to do compared to 1950s and now 2020s

[–]RealSrsBusiness1 points 3 years ago* [recovered] (13 children) | Copy Link

She'll be fucked though if they ever divorce. Being a housewife is not a marketable skill

[–]ExMuzzy 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Her husband has actually left himself open to be fucked financially if they divorce

[–]RealSrsBusiness1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Depends on where you live and isn't that what a prenup is for?

[–]ExMuzzy 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well they live in the UK where prenups are not legally enforceable. Although the courts may respect a prenup if the husband and wife both work, this is not the case here.

[–]ApprehensiveMail8 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes it is. Being a housewife is totally marketable.

[–]RealSrsBusiness1 points 3 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Not for getting a job that can sustain your family after a divorce. I'm sure lots of men like to go for the housewife type but I'm not sure if that's the case for women who were married before. Would you marry someone who had children?

[–]ApprehensiveMail8 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Depends on how much her ex makes. Pretty much any dude would go for MacKenzie Scott and she has four kids.

[–]smfuel87 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The fuck are you talking about..?

[–]denisc9918 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why on earth would HE ever divorce HER!

[–]venerable_crusader -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Lots of men would much rather have a traditional housewife, than a career driven feminist.

[–]RealSrsBusiness1 points 3 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm sure of it and I'm not disagreeing. Just stating how it is. Divorces happen and they're not that uncommon.

[–]venerable_crusader -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Im saying that being a housewife is quite marketable in the modern dating scene.

[–]pasta4u 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I work from home and during work I get laundry done since its load a machine come back 30 minutes later and load a new machine. The roomba vacuums and washes my floors. Cooking most days is putting protein in the sous vide or air fryer. Then I either throw in veggies into a pan or into the other air fryer basket. If its the air fryer i set the amount of time they need and just walk away even if they require different amounts of time I can just set it on the machine and pick smart match. the machine handles it all. That really leaves what cleaning the bathrooms either myself or wife does once a week , takes like 30 minutes. Dishes ? They get done after dinner takes a few minutes to load the dishwasher and maybe 10 minutes to unload. Once a month we dust ?

I'd have so much time to follow my hobbies. I could go for a run in the am , play games in the afternoon. Then have plenty of family time when kids get home and the wife gets home.

I agree that the stay at home parent has it easier, but there's still a lot to be done, even if it's the father doing all of this

[–]pasta4u 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My cousin home schools her child. I know what's involved. Her child is doing much better acdemicly since she was pulled from public school.

My cousin also has plenty of time to do house hold tasks and has time to her self.

You'd be amazed how much wasted time there is at a typical school

[–]DesertVeteran_PA-C 15 points16 points17 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

1950’s? My wife has been a stay at home wife and mother since 1993. Guess we didn’t post enough on social media about it to become famous. We have two great and successful kids, and her being home had a lot to do with that.

[–]Algoresball 38 points39 points40 points 3 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Most families can’t afford that anymore

[–]elebrin 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If you are reasonably middle class, you can but there are big sacrifices to make. You aren't going to be eating out a lot, you are going to have one ecobox car, the kids will likely have to share a bedroom, everyone wears used clothes, and you have to put a sweater on in the winter because the heat's at 60 rather than 70. You won't have streaming services or a big 4k tv and a bunch of video game consoles - you'll have library books and maybe DVDs if you can find a used DVD player that works. You'll be drinking water instead of soda and you'll overall be eating less food. Mom and Dad may have older generation cellphones, but the kids won't (and Dad's work should provide one if he is required to have one, but that's a different topic).

In essence, it's very possible to do but only if you ALSO live a very traditional life. That sort of lifestyle dramatically decreases your expenses.

[–]gertrude_is 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

are you in the US? I only ask because this makes me think how small old homes are here! my 2 brothers shared a room, I had my own and of course so did my parents, growing up. my house now is sooooo tiny (not tiny house tiny, but by today's standards tiny). It's over 100 years old. I live alone and I fill it with all my crap. I am pretty sure the original owners had 3 kids but I truly have no idea where they slept. I can't tell for sure and don't have original blueprints but I'm sure some of my house was added on later. where did they all sleep?! lol

we definitely don't need as much as stuff we think we do. or, we could manage without as much if we had to.

You’re true mostly. Where iMovie that’s the case. If you can live somewhere cheap it can be done, but then you’re also living in a shitty place most of the time

[–]Algoresball 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You also run into the catch 22 of lower salaries in lower COL places.

[+]IPutThisUsernameHere -9 points-8 points-7 points 3 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Surprisingly most can, actually. It requires strict budgeting, home-crafting sometimes and even going without expensive technologies on occasion. Also called "hard work".

[–]0R0V0H0 26 points27 points28 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Insisting “most families” in the United States can afford to buy a home with a single income under current economic conditions signals an incredibly poor understanding of life outside of your personal bubble. I don’t mean that as an attack, but to bring it to your attention that there may be some details you’re missing about people who have lived differently than you. If there’s anything travel has taught me, it’s that we underestimate just how big the U.S. is and just how different ways of life are in different regions. Hell, I didn’t even think toxic feminism existed until I traveled to California and met the misandrists myself. “Most families” barely get by with multiple full-time incomes under the same roof, and there are areas across the country where that kind of poverty is intentionally built into the local economy so that workers can be exploited. For a large percentage of the population, especially those who struggle with health conditions impacting their ability to do “hard work”, this kind of life is an impossible dream.

[+]IPutThisUsernameHere -14 points-13 points-12 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

A single question that usually is ignored by this argument is where the money is going.

It's not naive or out of touch to acknowledge that there are challenges, and even struggles, but I argue that it's just as naive to say it's impossible.

It can be done. I did not say it could be done without hard work.

[–]0R0V0H0 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Mkay. And I am saying that there are lots of people who work very hard and still can’t afford many of their most basic needs, let alone to support a whole other human being. Not because of any fault of their own, but because the economy in their local region is designed to trap them in poverty and ignorance so companies will always have a supply of desperate workers to under-pay.

[–]IPutThisUsernameHere -3 points-2 points-1 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

And, to repeat my previous statement, it takes strict budgeting and doing things by hand or at home. But it can be done, just not with any significant degree of ease.

[–]0R0V0H0 -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Saying the same thing over and over again doesn’t make it more true.

[–]IPutThisUsernameHere -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You're only supporting argument is that people work hard and fail. No other factors or angles, apart from maybe health issues.

I'm positing that it takes more than just hard work. It takes patience and self-restraint. Which is what I've been saying this whole time. You've conveniently ignored it.

Ironically, a poor work ethic but great patience and self-restraint can still net positive gains.

I never said it was one thing. I said it was several. And I said it wasn't easy. I only said it was possible.

You keep saying it cannot be done. I am living proof that it can.

I was broke for about ten years of my adult life after college. But I made it work by making wise decisions: living frugally, living cheaply, splurging extremely rarely and only after budgeting carefully for it.

I lived that. It's true. Therefore it's possible.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Here, this is the road to hell. In a homemaker's marriage, the wife acquires lifetime alimony rights if she does not work. The husband's income is considered the joint income, beyond the marriage. The circumstances in the marriage are considered to shape the alimony rights. Even homemaker marriages get divorced and the husband is because idiot who pays alimony forever. It is well advised to marry only women who earn as much as he does.
What does the housewife actually do at 50? The children are gone, her professional training has become worthless after a 20-year break? Make coffee, wash and wait until the husband comes home?

[–]ExMuzzy 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]lafemmeviolet 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Some women at that age volunteer or work part time. I know some have a lot of hobbies. If they have grandkids they end up watching them a lot. Some just sit on Facebook all day unfortunately.

[–]wx_rebel 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There's a fair amount of research that indicates having one stay-at-home parent is really healthy for families regardless as to which parent it is. Unfortunately, a stigma often exists against doing so, especially for stay at home dads. Hopefully the stigma (for both genders) will diminish but for many families that will require their country to have a stronger/larger middle class so that they can afford to live that lifestyle.

[–]LowAd3406 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's not so much a stigma as it is economic. Unless you're alright living a pauper's life, it's next to impossible to pull it off in modern western society.

[–]wx_rebel 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd argue most middle class people can do it with a few lifestyle choices that wouldn't qualify as pauper.

For instance, if the stay at home spouse makes meals from scratch, or better yet grow their own food, you'll save a lot on groceries. You don't have to pay for childcare either so you save more money there. Also, if you buy used vehicles instead of new you'll save money on cost and insurance. Just as a few examples.

It can vary by country, family size and circumstance for sure, but it's doable for more families than people realize.

[–]Would-Be-Superhero 7 points8 points9 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's my dream right there. I want a stay-at-home wife.

[–]LowAd3406 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have a buddy who is a stay at home dad and after hanging out with for a few days I realized how cake his life is compared to mine. He does laundry, cooking, yard work, and parenting 3 kids yet maybe has 25 hours of work a week. Very little stress at all outside of dealing with the occasional discipline issue with the kids.

Tradcon rhetoric is misandrist the man is still expected to be the provider and to sacrifice himself this is sickening

[–]ExMuzzy 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. I know there are some tradcon "MRA's" here but I can't stand the idea of how ingrained in society it is for men to fulfill their traditional gender roles. Tradcons often enable feminists so I don't see them as any better.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. What we need is to free men from gender roles the way have freed women

[–]ExMuzzy 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

100%

Also, these guys talking about going into traditional relationship are probably going to end up paying alimony if things go wrong.

Oh 100%. Alimony is a way for women to hold men in abusive marriages

[–]venerable_crusader 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I would certainly prefer traditional gender roles to modern feminism

[–]ExMuzzy 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That’s fine, I just believe we should have the choice. I personally don’t want to be providing for someone for my entire life and leave myself open to losing half my stuff in divorce or alimony.

[–]denisc9918 -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

and leave myself open to losing half my stuff in divorce or alimony

That's a problem with the modern world not the actual traditional gender roles. This needs to change before ANY man should get married.

  • A man's job it to Protect and Provide.

But we can't do it because of the general shitty state of our society. The women in the OPs post, IF TRUE, are a very small ray of possible light at the end of the tunnel. We might know for sure in 10yrs or so.

[–]reverbiscrap 9 points10 points11 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Gross misunderstanding of what traditional values are. It's amusing that feminist brainwashing is so complete that people don't even know what 'traditional values' mean.

The short version is that it was an equal exchange between couples; the man offers the fruit of his (often backbreaking) labor and the oath of physical safety to a woman in exchange for exclusive access to a woman's womb and the children she can provide. Man gets yams when he wants and children as legacy, woman gets protection and provision. For what it is worth, it is an arrangement you find around the world, in most human cultures, and worked very well for a very long time.

[–]ImpulsiveNarrator 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

"Gross misunderstanding of what traditional values are"

proceeds to describe how one-sided traditional values are against men

You are describing something that women provide, which is mutual and men also provide. And then are describing what men provide, which is significantly more arduous than the female role and something that they do not provide.

Men also commit to lifelong faith towards his partner, exclusive access to his penis, children he provides to her, etc. This is more difficult for men as well because it goes against his biological impulses.

Women do not protect or provide for men. So, the male side is practically being an inferior, worthless, disposable protector who gives resources and children to women to give her a better life. While women's side is giving access to her "womb" and the children "she can provide", you need a man to impregnate a woman, this is mutual, on top of this women uphold the consumer side of the relationship, they give less than they provide and they quite literally provide no resources under traditionalism.

Thank you for spelling out how anti-male traditionalism is. Pretty disturbing to see this upvoted in an MRA sub, and then calling it "equal."

[–]Ftpiercecracker1 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

You can choose to do whatever the fuck you want.

But in traditional roles the man works and the woman stays home.

It could be the other way around too.

Personally, I would do anything to have a traditional wife at home with my kids. Including what you refer to as sacrificing myself.

That was the original deal between men and women. Men work/provide. Women raise kids and take care if hearth and home.

Unfortunately, having a traditional doting wife is simply not an option for men of our generation.

[–]venerable_crusader 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

[–]Algoresball -1 points0 points1 point 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

We shouldn’t be bound by that. We should encourage and support each other to take on that role or to not take on that role. Neither is more masculine then the other

[–]Ftpiercecracker1 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Who said anything about being bound?

Just because something is traditionally xyz isn't saying it must be xyz.

[–]Algoresball 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah I don’t think we disagree. I just feel like the language we use sometimes like “men’s responsibility” and stuff like that comes off as shaming men who don’t want that traditional role. Men get such little support in the world, the least we can do is be supportive of each other in spaces like this

[–]Ftpiercecracker1 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree. The phrase "men's responsibility" is weaponized all the god damn time. Like you said, as a shaming tactic to coerce men into the servitude of undeserving/undesirable women.

I try and use "mens responsibility" extremely sparingly and very specifically.

Take a traditional marriage for example.

IF the woman has taken on the role of housekeeper and child raiser, it is then my opinion that it truly is then the man/husband's responsibility to provide income for said wife/children.

Men's responsibility doesn't exist in a vacuum. Men don't owe anyone anything. I use "responsibility" in the context of a deal or bargain.

Jack and Jill strike a deal. It's Jill's responsibility to uphold her end and Jack's responsibility to uphold his. I didn't outline what the deal was, just what happens if a deal is made.

Men have no such "deal" with society at large, except maybe the overarching rule of law.

I have a responsibility to not break the law and society has the responsibility to not falsely imprison me.

Men have zero responsibility to women as class of people.

[–]Stinky_Fly 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe it's because divorce benefits women way more than men. Their life doesn't really change all that after divorce they are still stay at home, get money to comfort themselves and raise their children with an added bonus of painting their father a villain

She's happy. He's happy. I guess the feminists were ignored and are really upset with her.

[–]djc_tech -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’d love something like this. That doesn’t mean as a dad at work you don’t do stuff at home too though. You still help with things and be involved but all the planning and stuff is handled by her and you work to get those things done. She handles the house and you handle the outside/job and car stuff. That’s the way my parents did it and they’re still married and have been since the early 80s. Nothing wrong with that and I’m glad she found her happiness.

As some of noted, women now want traditional men but don’t act like traditional women, they act like men. They’re confrontational, rude, cause fights and scenes, act like guys and even worse to each other than they are to men. This woman from the article is someone that is a traditional woman. Nothing wrong with either choice if that’s how you want to live; all I’m saying is women complaining they can’t find “a good man” but act like a guy themselves won’t get a man willing to be a traditional guy for her

[+]melly651 -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]kittenegg25 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The issue with 1950s wives (and likely why they ended up on horrible over-prescribed medications) is that they did not have enough to do at home and were honestly not very productive (in most regions). Now it would be an even lesser load with advancements in technology making it easier to cook and clean.

What we should go for is a Mom who stays home, rears the children, homeschools the children, and contribute to the homestead.

Most men I am dating now insist we split the bill or take turns paying. I can’t imagine any of them being open to this. Some outright have told me that two incomes is a non-negotiable requirement.

Where can I find him?
