I think part of who has it better depends on your traits. Certain traits are more tolerated or better rewarded in one sex vs the other.

If you're shy or anxious you're better off as a woman
If you're driven and ambitious you're better off as a man.
If you have average or worse genetics and aren't particularly gifted in any given attribute you're better off as a woman.
If you have have top tier genetics you are better off as a man.

There will be more men at the very bottom of society but also more men at the very top. The most successful and genetically gifted men are at the very top of the hierarchy but most women are above most men.

Yes, I've read it. It's primarily about ergonomics and tech. Design and engineering, the two industry umbrellas that dominate decision making for manufactured goods and software products are dominated by men and so many products are designed to fit men's needs and use cases. This is true. She also talks about the 50% percentile male and how it's used as the gold standard for scientific, medical and ergonomic studies even to the exclusion of female standards.

She had a really good section about gender bias in voice recognition which struck a chord with me becuase I've only found voice recognition products to be useable in the last couple of years. Early AI's were trained on male voice datasets and couldn't understand female voices as well.

It made me think there's lots of bank to be made tailoring technology products to female consumers and I would like some of those trendies. I think the market for apps that serve male needs was tapped out in the last decade.

It's a world designed by men, not for men. I think women get tripped up by assuming men have as strong of an in-group bias as women do when they absolutely don't.

On some subconscious level they know if women were the ones who "designed" the world, there would be no holds barred in their efforts to design it for women, so they just assume that's what men did for themselves.

Yeah I've read it. Some things I wasn't surprised at all, some things I were, some of it made me angry 😅 she does use a lot of data to back up her points.

I absolutely agree with you though; men have it worse in some ways, women have it worse in others. I do think men are overall better off - not a popular opinion on this sub. But society as a whole is geared toward men (some examples off the top of my head from that book would be planning of public toilets, car safety testing and features designed for men, PPE/stab vests etc being designed for men and not women, town planning and public transport being geared toward how men live their lives and not women etc).

Has anyone read it?

I've glanced the preview diagonally and not impressed; the book tries to capitalize on success of its predecessors of mid-20th century, and leaves a strong after-taste that the author consumed the same ANTI-FEMINIST Youtube/Bitchute content creators that I have. (Almost) all of the cases mentioned in foreword/contents I vividly remember as topics of laughter and mockery among manospherean vloggers 2-5 years ago.

Some of the data seems new to me - such as on car crashes. But in general it still reeks of the same old (and completely false) idea that people who did something wrong (developed only one design paradigm of a car that minimizes chances of death for Objectively The Most Probable Driver) can be blamed by people who did nothing to solve the very same problem (obviously, the study in question might itself be flawed, debunked, or have a sample size of 5).

Obviously, some areas of life do benefit men and are designed with men's best interest in mind - such as urinals. But think longer than for 2 seconds about utilitarian purpose of urinals, and why they are so often placed in workplaces and almost never in homes.

Finally, no-one cancelled macro-parameters yet. Dying early, dying of unnatural causes, dying of preventable causes - is still mostly men's domain. Redesigning cars (for example) so they fit women better and be safer for them - will be the step away from equality.

This book is stupid. There are so many huge data gaps and women are not even close to being the biggest. If anything the bias favors capturing data that proves feminist talking points.

As for myself I'm totally content to say that men have a better deal in some areas of life and women in others. I don't find 100% victim narratives helpful.

I haven't read it. I'm sure that in the course of a full book there would be plenty of good points with which I would agree, of examples of bad decisions that could easily be corrected. But I'm also highly suspicious that a lot of the book would angrily attribute to sexism things that can be explained by ordinary imperfection. Stairs are impractical for women with prams, but they're also much cheaper than an elevator. And we don't have the resources to precisely identify the places where an elevator would be a cost-effective investment, so stairs are the default.

My problem is that no one seems interested in the question "why?" We went to blame and accuse, but not to understand.

It's almost as if men are seen as being predisposed to random asshole-ish behavior just because they can. For me everything clicks into place once you realize men are attempting to control, manage, and have power over, something they see as having massive power over them.

We see most CEOs being male, for example, but don't see the man inspired to work himself to death to try to become CEO, in some insane attempt to get to a position of power so that he can be desirable to women. This isn't men as villainous hand-rubbing masters of the universe, this is men pathetically making their whole lives revolve around trying to be worthy of the feminine.

Ladies, you're our heroin. You're the goddess we try to be worthy of. That may not be the kind of power you wanted, but it's what you got, so proceed accordingly. And, like I said, the more you understand that mindset, the more a whole lot of male behavior clicks into place and starts to make sense, from violent outbursts and creepy approaches, to burkas and slut shaming.
