I am married and am not too worried. I think a big reason marriage suffers is because lots of folks see it like an Instagram Moment or a “thing to do”. They don’t take seriously what it is and what it means and what consequences can be.

I think most people don’t spend enough time dating and understanding what they really want and what they offer in a relationship. So when they get married, the writing is already on the walls that they’ll get divorced.

I’m actually sometimes surprised that divorce rates aren’t higher because I really don’t think people think through how they pick a life partner. I think it’s like anything - if you don’t vet properly, you’re more likely to get burned when you invest. It’s just that there are very few tools for us to learn how to get a husband/wife.

I, a man, am engaged and feel very good about it. Together 4.5 years and living together for 2. Both set on being child free. We laugh a lot and I go to bed happy every night. Like all things in life, nothing is perfect and shit happens, but life is also short and tomorrow isn't granted. With the right person, it's a risk worth taking if you like the idea of monogamy and commitment.

Already did get married. Bought a house got a dog. Had a kid. Fostered. I guess I wasn’t afraid because I read statistics. Maybe the ones that are shouldn’t.

I'm willing... provided we dated for 3-5 years first. Marriage has its place but I'd never marry someone I haven't lived with for a while and I'd almost never move in with someone I didn't trust and so on and so forth.

I'm willing to get married if she fits my admittedly high standards. Someone that values sex and relationships, that takes good care of herself, is feminine and sweet and has no tattoos or piercings. She definitely cannot now nor have ever belonged to the streets or done any kind of sex work and our long term goals must align.

I'd still get a prenup but I'd be willing to marry such a woman. Should I not find someone like that I'll just date but never marry

Dude, almost nobody gets alimony these days, you are harping on something that barely exists. Besides, I doubt most people are wealthy enough that you'd be in danger of paying alimony. And even if I did have to pay alimony it would be pay for raising my kids.

Secondly: when men seek custody they typically get it. The thing is that men don't want custody.

Women are the ones getting the short end of the stick nowadays. They're forced out of the workforce to raise *mutual* children, get penalised for it at work, get penalised for it at home when their husband doesn't do half of the work keeping a house and raising kids. So they end up divorced, her a struggling but happy single mom, he will either single for a long time or jump straight into a new relationship.

While googling easy stats, look into the happiness levels of women married with kids versus single. Look into death rates (women married die younger, but married men live longer than their single counterparts). Check out studies on the current state of affairs for men and women (with women being in the workforce).

I am not a man, but as a woman- no I will not risk getting married.

I'm a lawyer and I make 60k per year. My wife is a doctor who makes 450k per year plus bonuses. We have a baby together. We've been married for 3 years, together for 9. I know every family court judge in the city and how they would rule and what the results would be if for some reason we got divorced.

Marriage put me in a significantly superior situation both financially and legally. Not to mention I love my wife and family and all that.

I am unwilling to sign the marriage contract. Why would I involve the government in my relationship lol? Happy having a nice ceremony and buying a ring if that’s something that would make her happy. I’ll avoid common law marriage states as well.

People who talk about the tax benefits don’t make enough because they would know the much more legitimate ways of legally avoiding taxes.

Marriage is a lose lose on an individual level. It’s like buying a house but never taking ownership when you can rent for the same price risk free. It is good for society at the macro though.

Miss me with it, idk about the older generations but a lot of my friends and guys I know in gen Z do not want to get married, but so do the girls so it might just be a generation thing because the data does prove more people aren’t getting married and divorce is still high. No real reason to get married unless it’s to have the government encroach when you split.

At this moment i don't think i will get married, i'm open to a long term relashionship with kids and all the stuff.

But after witnessing and living some stuff i believe the only way i would get married is with a very strong pre-nup, and even then i'm not fully confortable.

But i also know that i have issues, so maybe in the future if i frind ms right and all aligns who know? but it would need to be a long term relashionship where we knew each other completly, i see today so many people getting married after knowing each other for 6 months, and it basically implodes.

Am also the kind of guy that makes the joke of "never get married" to the guys that aren't, and does so in the presence of his wife. And you know what she does? She laughs along because she knows its a joke.

Let's stop for a second and understand something absolutely vital to this discussion:

Getting legally married comes with a whole slew of benefits when you and your partner are EQUALS. That's because, first and foremost, a marriage is a partnership where both of you must be willing to give things up and compromise. When you are not equals, which is what most of the incels who ask such questions want out of their relationships, willingness to compromise if only expected from one side of the marriage. Of course that's going to lead to divorce.

Take, for example, the guy above me who states "Only if she's hot, obedient, kind, and willing to have my children. And I'm still getting a prenup." When you start your relationship with that kind of mindset, you're going to run into trouble from the get go. Why? Because you have standards but aren't willing to meet her standards. If that leads to marriage, it's an unequal partnership, and that never works.
