I (38M) am currently married to my wife (42F) for 12 years. We have two kids, 10 and 8, who I absolutely adore.

Our marriage has been spiraling around the drain for the better part of 18 months. I found explicit texts on her phone to another man at the beginning of that time frame, and after confronting her, she told me she has been unsatisfied in our marriage for basically the entire time we have been together (specifically our sex life -- she said the other 95% of our marriage was great). She laid the blame at my feet for not making her "feel desired" and told me to fix myself. I, being the "I can fix anything" type, went into therapy. Six months later, when having an argument I confronted her about never apologizing for her act of infidelity, to which she told me "Im not sorry because I dont think I did anything wrong." This was shocking, and really took the wind out of my sails as far as feeling I could/should fix this.

Several more months passed, and at this point I believe she had an actual physical affair with another man. No hard evidence, but enough very (very) strong circumstantial evidence to be nearly certain.

I should be pissed. I should be so angry at her that I went straight to a lawyer and filed. But...I feel almost nothing. I'm just so saddened by all of it. I look at the family we built -- the kids are absolutely amazing, my whole world -- and I just can't motivate to make a change. I think the biggest part of me is just scared -- scared of what's going to happen, how it will affect the kids, how much it's all going to hurt, and just how screwed I am going to get.

As it is, everything revolves around the kids now. My wife and I barely talk outside of communication about the kids' activities or our separate plans. We sleep in separate rooms and have for at least a year. We haven't done anything as just a couple since I can't even remember. I fill my time with work, hanging with buddies, and my kids (hanging out with them, coaching their teams, helping them with homework, etc). My wife is in grad school getting her master's degree at night so a ton of the parenting falls on me, so I'm absolutely slammed. But as far as our marriage right now, it's just an absolute sham. I am unhappy in it. I know she is as well.

I feel like I'm just procrastinating because I'm scared of what the next step means for me. How do I overcome the inertia of this incredibly difficult thing to make a step forward? How did you do it? Did anyone else feel this way?
