I think saying that men are hypergamous too is a little silly. Sure, men too want the "best they can get", but the point is, it's different. It's like saying that women objectify men too, just in different ways. It just kind of muddies the conversation and misses the mark. Why not have different terms and concepts for these things?

It's no secret that women often feel like men see them as a piece of meat. Someone they can just use for sex. On the other hand, men often feel like women see them as "dancing monkeys". Like a fun-dispenser who is supposed to entertain the woman. At this point, I have no reason to believe these two things aren't about equally common. But they are different too, and it's fair to highlight that.

Women already came up with all sorts of terms and concepts and explanations for their issues with men, literally just take a look at feminism. As much as some men exaggerate and catastrophize or use the concept of hypergamy to say rude things about women, at it's core, hypergamy still touches on something that seems to be a fairly uniquely male experience in trying to date women. It's when women are various degrees of shallow in their own awesome-success-excitement loving way, it's this "go on, add something to my life or gtfo" vibe, which can be pretty disheartening. That's all. Yes, it does relate to "money and status", but it's not just purely about those things. I think it makes sense. So does objectification, sexualization, men wanting "trophy girlfriends" and all that stuff that women find disheartening about men.
