Not saying the guys in this thread are wrong, but in general you're unlikely to get an accurate answer from them. This is similar to when girls try to give guys advice about how to be hot: it's well-intentioned, but may not be so useful.

A few things that are very important:

Haircut. Different styles look good depending on your face shape. Wear your hair the way that best compliments your features.

Make-up. Too much of it makes you look like a tart. Heavy-handed poorly applied make-up does the same. Guys who are attracted to tarts are just trying for an easy lay. Guys who look for challenges are typically going to be better in the sack, and that's what you want to be--a challenge. Use precision when applying your make-up.

Don't over-tweeze your eyebrows. Don't don't don't draw on your eyebrows. Don't shape your eyebrows in some strange way. As with your haircut, accent the shape of your face appropriately.

Dress in clothes which compliment your body type. If you have curves, don't wear anything so tight that you start spilling out over the sides like pudding squeezed out of the cup. If you're rail thin, don't go baggy. Learn what brands have a cut that fit you well, and go with it. If you're wearing jeans, a good rule of thumb is that you need the pockets to be over your buttcheeks and up slightly. The rest is all women's fashion stuff and I'm no expert on it.

As with men for women, the most attractive thing a girl can do to land a good man is be confident. Skeezy guys can't handle that and will be turned off by it. If you want a skeezy guy, disregard this. I don't mean spun-tight arrogance either--this hypothetical woman needs to be cool and confident: the female equivalent of the alpha.

She has to know what she wants. If you want a guy, you need to make it very clear that you want him, but don't tell him exactly what you're going to do. Just make sure he knows you want privacy with him. The best accessories for confidence are intelligence and an accommodating sense of humor. If you're dumb, that's okay, but you're going to have a hard time being funny or being the female equivalent of an alpha.

Another hot thing you can do is listen. This will throw most men off their game: we expect women to want to talk our ears off--if you're legitimately curious about us and not just for the sake of feigning interest and are actually capable of engaging us in conversation about things we care about and ask us pointed questions (put us on the defensive) it is a DHV and will completely fuck most of our worlds up. Most girls who seem interested in our shit only are doing it on the surface to get our attention, and it is obvious to us.

There are so many options available to women these days without surgery. The whole notion of "you" and how hot "you" are is highly open to choice.

I'd say the biggest thing is how you dress. Most women look similar enough naked but the way they dress sets them apart like night and day. There are women with perfectly decent bodies who just dress terribly in an unflattering way.

You have all sorts of choices with how you do makeup, mascara, eye shadow, etc... All sorts of subtle styles to pull off that allow you to define your look.

As for personality, the most attractive personality on a girl is someone who's fun, brings social energy to the table, is playful, and too busy enjoying an occasion to complain. This, of course, applies to men as well. But there's a kind of femininity that comes from being playful. Do this and you have upped your accessibility to any guy in a club, bar, coffee shop, subway ride, etc...

To lose attraction, a lot of guys dislike the girl who corrects them, who knows more than them, etc... I've learned to not get touchy when a girl does this but my (moronic) natural instinct for a while would be to argue. It's mildly sexist but a lot of guys are turned off by it.

Likewise, if you can remind a man that he's a man - let him show off his knowledge, his physical skills, his masculinity - that's always good.

My experience has been that a lot of nerd/gamer girls are unattractive for the reason nerd/gamer guys are - they do not embrace the gender aspect of their image. The girls often don't regard their appearance or how they dress, don't seem to know how to be "girly", and hang out with men like "one of the guys". Similarly, a lot of the computery men forgot how to embrace their masculinity. If you're dealing in heterosexual terms, showing how your gender defines you is necessary for attraction.

I assume this involves a close male friend who treats you like a guy friend. What you need to do is wait until the blonde with the amazing rack who he's lusting after finally turns him down. I am probably generalizing too much from my own experiences, but I believe most men think women are a handful of trouble. They are irrational and often mistake their feelings for reality. Example: a girlfriend of mine once told me "I had a dream last night that you slept with my best friend!" Of course I hadn't, and she knew I hadn't, and I wasn't attracted to her friend in the least. But she still wouldn't speak to me for 3 weeks. That was irrational and no amount of rational thinking could counter it.

Hotness doesn't have just to do with what you're born with. It's been said that there are no ugly girls, only lazy ones. If you think that plastic surgery is the only way you can improve your hotness, think again.

Keep your skin clear. Shower frequently. Don't wear too much makeup. Don't wear tacky clothing. Present yourself in a stylish and elegant manner. Speak in full sentences. Don't slouch. Don't say "like" more than once per sentence. Never say "y'know". Don't wear that one perfume that all the whores wear (I don't know what it's called). Look people in the eye. Be honest.

A lot of good opinions listed here. One of the things that I've found attractive in girls, is when they have a similar interest, and actually communicate their feelings on that interest. I for example, love off-roading and anime, and while both are sort of extremes of each other, I've found several ladies that enjoy both. To me, it's a turn-on when they share the same interests, and aren't trying to 'fake it' to be with a guy, or vice versa. Be yourself, be confident but not cocky. Also, go to activities and meet guys there. You'd be surprised how many of us get flabbergasted when a girl starts talking to us when we're enjoying something (arcades = awesome, and sand dunes = awesome).

You should get the same advice s the guys get. There's no particular style or haircut that will make you sexier to everyone. Get fit, work on your image, be social etc. The rest is based on your tastes. Some guys will love a girl that looks like she's from some Japanese anime, other guys like the type of professional woman.

Find a style that you want and realize that it will likely attract guys with a similar taste in style.

dont be annoying -- kinda speaks for itself
be funny and/or receptive to humor
travel in a pack with other women who will introduce you to guys that are hitting on them but they'te not interested in.
chances are that you're not as bad looking as you think you are. (this goes for both sexes actually) -- confidence is sexy

The things I really like are flirty looks and good conversation. Good hair is surprisingly important to me and to a slightly lesser extent clothes. But it's really that look of "You interest me; I want you". You know when you are attracted to someone and they make you smile but you hide it so you don't end up grinning. That is the look.

I'm not that into girls throwing themselves at me. Where is the fun in that. What would be perfect is a flirty looks in the introduction; be happy fun and flirty then leave (or just talk to everyone not just me). After that see if I want to grab a drink or some excuse to be alone and talk.

I wouldn't bother with someone who was covered in makeup, fake tan, jewelry; I (possibly incorrectly) would assume they are not worth the effort. I would still want to sleep with them but probably wouldn't try.

I don't have a type of girl I like. Don't care about height, hair colour, sportyness, build. That doesn't mean I would go out with anyone; They have to look attractive. just something to be aware of.

But seriously if you can perfect that sideways smile, it can up your 'rating' a lot.

Aside from the paramount importance of being hot, there are a couple of things:

It was mentioned earlier, but seriously, don't be a fucking bitch. Theres not too much more of a turn off than some elitist "holier than thou" attitude, especially when someones trying to be friendly.

To expand on that note, be friendly/social/confident. This seems pretty self explanatory, but it can actually make a big difference if a girl is seen as engaging/friendly versus someone who just sits there.

Big +1 on the point another commenter made on getting clothes that compliment your body type. How the clothes fit is seriously EVERYTHING. I'll take a well fitting no-name shirt over a poorly fit designer shirt any day of the week. Try some designs/styles/cuts, see what works for you, and build on that. Focus on complimenting yourself, not following the latest fashion trends/designs. This also kind of build son the confidence points. When your clothes fit good, you look good, when you look good, you feel good, when you feel good, life is an EZ game.

Don't try too hard. This could mean a lot of things, from not wearing too much makeup, to not trying too hard to be "one of the guys" to not dressing like a (complete) slut. Be natural in all things you do. This is kind of hard to explain, but for a lot of guys its pretty easy to tell when a girls trying to hard.

I agree with pretty much everything here. Smiling, dressing well, letting your sense of humour show, being a good conversationalist. But those things are pretty basic and are all part of being an interesting and together person. Also, guys like long hair. Wear makeup, not too much. Look like you're enjoying yourself. Don't be afraid to tease a little and don't hide your intelligence. But don't go out of your way to show it off either. Cultivate your own fashion sense. Guys say they don't care much about fashion, but on a subconscious level they definitely do.

The truth is, you can do all of that and still not be a 9 or 10 for everyone. Fundamentall it comes down to tastes and personalities. You should just try to please yourself and it's amazing how many guys will be attracted to you..

Dressing in a way that compliments your body. For example, there are chubby girls and there are chubby girls who wear clothing that accentuates their beauty
Hair, you can make that sexier without plastic surgery
Give, remove, repeat. Sorry, I haven't come up with a catchy name for that one. Basically, you can be flirty/cute/complimentary/etc. to a guy in a way that makes him think that you're into him and then remove those positive feelings either through not flirting or occasionally doing that to someone in their line of sight. So it's kind of like drug dealing where you deal positive emotions and then take it away so they want another fix

You can improve your appeal to men by increasing your sexual willingness. A guy will probably prioritize a 7 who makes it obvious he can fuck her tonight over an 8 who he doesn't know will put out or not. In terms of keeping a guy long term, if you are willing to do more sexual stuff (e.g. anal, facial cum shots) then you have a better chance.

While this may not be the best place to look for this kind of advice (askreddit might be more appropriate), I'll bite for my first post here.

Honestly, it's very similar for both women and men:

Be confident. I'm not saying be a bitch, but be sure of yourself. Make known what you want. This is an easy one to screw up; guys don't like overbearing chicks, and they also don't like girls who obviously have no self-esteem. While we aren't always the best at picking up hints, confidence is an easy one to spot, and we can do it at range.
Smile a lot. I'm 100% serious. If a chick is frowning all the time, she's probably going to be rated around 1-2 points lower than if she were to smile instead. See above.
Be honest to yourself. While these tips will certainly help you a lot, you've got to have some material to work with first. I don't mean that you need to have a super-hot body to start with, if you weigh 200 pounds as a woman, you're probably going to have some issues. (not trying to be mean, just telling the truth) If you need some toning, hit the gym. Yes, I know it sucks, especially for the first week or two of hard exercise, but once you get into a routine it becomes much easier. Guys will notice.

If you want to decrease your rating, or make the local Plastic Leader drop a few points, do the opposite.

Guys (or anyone) would be interested in anyone who are interested in them. Interest generates desire. But interest from a woman who is not desirable to a guy is futile.

Oh, someone else mentioned hair. While many girls thing short haircuts cute and sassy, many men simply hate them. Long hair is sexy. Short hair is not.

Also being fit matters. Boobs matter in that you're fit first. One of my ex girlfriends actually tried tried some of the stuff like bloussant and went from a gorgeous C cup to a D. I was pleasantly in shock.

Oh and IF you get plastic surgery. There must be no scars on the boobs. Make sure they are put in from the armpit or the bellybutton.

Lose weight.
Grow your hair long & get a cool cut & colour job done on it.
Learn how to dress stylish (ie timelessly, classily sexy & sophisticated) - 'What Not to Wear' books spring to mind.
Wear padded bras.
Learn to dance sexy, think Beyonce.
Become comfortable with your own body & sexuality, such that it exudes from your very being.
If you wear glasses, get contacts.
Develop a lust for life. Energy & bubbly personality is very attractive.
If you have skin problems (acne, etc.) get them treated.
Take an interest in the guy, but not too much as to appear desperate.
Don't act clingy.

Understanding where your sexy arches and curves are and using them to your advantage.

Unattractive:

The biggest factor in your physical attractiveness is your waist to hip ratio. Measure your waist around the navel, then measure your hips around their weidest part. Divide the measurement of your hips by the measurement of your waist. Compare to "perfect" ratio of 1.61.

A few other things:

Voice tone - some people have a naturally attractive voice, luckily, everyone can have one too, they just need to work on it a bit.

Try and learn some things about the kind of things that guys are interested in, preferably things that you will like yourself. For me personally, I started getting in to fashion, not only so I could look better, but also because a lot of the women I meet are into fashion and we can have something to talk about.

Finally, try to have something that makes it easy for a guy to comment on. A conversation piece if you will. It could be a button, a pet, anything as long as it's something a guy can come up and say "hey, I like your ______ tell me more about it." A lot of times guys don't know what to say to girls, so they don't say anything, but if you have a nice conversation piece, it will make it easier for them to approach you.

Oh, and one more thing, avoid looking try-hard, this includes wearing too much makeup and wearing clothes that are attention getting and revealing. While we as men will probably check you out, quality guys probably won't talk to you, while all the douchebags will swarm you.

That's about it, honestly, don't get too caught up in the details, men are really quite simple and easy to please, so are women, but shhh, don't tell anyone else.

Hit the gym. I don't know a single girl that wouldn't look better 5 lbs less. It sounds dick, but honestly it's true... guys are very visual.

On that same note, gym + haircut + makeup makes any girl 7+ easily.

Ok now you're getting the attention of every guy. You could hook up with almost any you wanted at this point. Style + depth will get you any guy for as long as you want.

Lose weight if you have extra- someone already posted this, but, "there are girls that run, and girls that should." Don't be overly conservative in humor or dress but don't slut it up with a bunch of guys. Have tan skin, white teeth, and wear makeup that accentuates but doesn't completely overshadow your eyes.
