Dating advice for women often includes "make him wait for sex." While it's reasonable to wait longer than one date/until there's an emotional connection, this game goes far past that. The advice can look like waiting an arbitrary number of dates between 3 and 10, x number of months, or even till marriage. Or even "no kissing till x amount of time." This collapses real considerations in dating like chemistry, desire, true connection, etc and creates an almost sterile approach to intimacy.

If a woman can date a man for an extended period without an almost overwhelming desire to have sex, there is something else at play. Often times, she just doesn't truly like him and/or is not attracted to him. Maybe she grew up religious/ in a misogynistic subculture and has shame/complexes surrounding sex that prevent her from engaging. This narrative of "making him wait" also teaches women that sex can be dangled on a stick in front of a man and that sex is something they exchange for commitment. Women also learn that their sexuality should be suppressed in order to be viewed as a "good girl" who "deserves" commitment and love. Maybe this is a separate conversation but I feel that all these things also contribute to the Madonna/Whore complex.

Over the years, these messages damage women's views around sex and encourage them to go for men they are not truly attracted to. The end result? Dead bedrooms.
