70% of the US is overweight. 41% are obese....So, pushing half the population are clinically obese, and the great majority are unhealthy looking, and we could probably add poorly dressed in with that.

It's and obvious point but unattractive people don’t necessarily want each other. In many cases they can’t date each other. The bar can only go so low, even when one doesn't meet it themselves.

How much less of an issue would gender dynamics in the dating market be if men and women looked healthier, fitter, better/more formerly dressed, as in our grandparent’s generation? it would be easier to accept pairing up at their level. Not to mention the lack of health conditions, drop in fertility and possible physical dependency that comes with modern sedentary lifestyles.

Dating an average man wouldn’t be so repellent to women if the average got in shape and had his style sorted out EARLY in life when important experiences are supposed to happen for him i.e. early 20s.

More attractive men wouldn’t be so drawn to younger women if women over 35 didn’t let themselves go so drastically.

Men and women wouldn't be so bitter, being overall more satisfied with their options.

Demonstrating the point (and in case people think this is just taking shots at overweight women):

Chubby overweight Christian Bale preparing for his role as Dick Cheney. He looks like an unremarkable, schlubby, poorly dressed American male.

Christian Bale at healthy weight and well dressed.

Imagine if everybody made a concerted effort. (Yeah I realize that's not going to happen: people put in the minimum of what they think they can get away with. but it's just thought)
