A good make out session is based on the same principal that makes you “a good kisser.” It all comes down to matching your partner. You respond to what they’re doing in kind. They slide their tongue under your upper lip? Tongue is game. They kiss small and quick? Well don’t go for a long sensual kiss, dummy.

You can also throw out your own signals, but if they’re not reciprocated (and you want to have a good experience / leave a good impression) don’t stick with it.

I only find it awkward when there is a lack of chemistry. If I have chemistry on every level with a guy, the first makeout session is usually amazing (yes, us old people like acting like horny teenagers). I do agree with the other comment, the older we get, tongue generally doesn't go past the teeth though.

I'm a 22F, I just went on a date and I feel like I have it down to an equation for any receiving party.

If neither of us is "feeling it", that's the way it seems. If I've played my cards in my preferred way, then it's usually hot as fuck and not awkward. I'm a huge tease and I don't have a hint of desperation, so I'm usually ramping up the girls I'm seducing until they're so hyped up that kissing just seems to happen. In my view, if it's awkward the first time, then the guy is doing something wrong. (And I'm a guy.) It can be fun, playful, and enjoyable if a dude knows what he's doing, which usually means mood. If you have nerves, then both of you need to get more comfortable, maybe a glass of wine, a spliff/edible, and/or sublingual CBD tincture.

Also, if you're the anxious type, I suggest warm socks during sex for you or you may have difficulties getting there.

Edit: it's some sort of weird biological thing where literal cold feet interferes with the big O in some people. Heck, I'm partial to warm showers, warm rooms, warm clothes fresh from the dryer, and someone preheating the bed for me. 😂

If you are making out with someone you haven’t had a meaningful conversation with, then you’re probably both a little drunk anyway so you can get a way with a lot of faux pas on either side without ruining it.

I would imagine you are most attracted to guys who are “appropriately forward” about their sexual intent with you. When I am on a date I make no secret about my intentions. That removes a lot of the awkwardness when it comes down to it. Ideally you have a fun conversation about likes and dislikes and dos and donts during your dates before the hookup so that you both understand what you and the other feel like getting in to. That strategy has always worked best for me. I don’t find hookups awkward.

A potential awkward topic of conversation is much more preferable than an awkward hookup. Amirite?

Edit: if I try to open that sort of conversation and I cannot get her to engage with it, then I’m imagining she isn’t going to be the ideal match for me in bed. I’d rather know that before everyone is buttnaked, and I’m at a physical state full painful blue-balled arousal.

30M- When I was younger in my early 20's yeah maybe it was a bit awkward. Now not really, I've done a lot of foul sexual shit and a kiss is very innocent, doesn't carry as much weight as it use to.

Nowadays, it's more just a prelude to bigger things. The significance of it has dropped so has the awkwardness.

It depends really. You have to sort of be able to adjust on the fly. Not everyone can and for some couples not takes a couple tries. If you are clicking with someone, just keep at it. An open dialogue is always best. Been with my wife for 22 years and we still talk about thing and try new things. It was keeps things going on the relationship.

It depends, I a huge fan of kissing and I’ve gotten really good reviews on it. So a lot of the time I’m the better kiss. I find some girls I encounter aren’t good kissers cause I’m assuming the guys they’ve been with weren’t either. Unless she’s a complete first timer I find women are good at following the lead and falling in sync. It really depends on what type of kisser you are, as you pointed out. I've found some people that were compatible with me to the point of working perfectly well from the very first time. However, there were also incredibly awkward ones where kissing took an exceedingly long time to even start feeling right.
