Listen up. Confidence is earned by achieving things. Confidence manifests itself in sub conscious behaviour. Other people will innately understand this behaviour as evidence of competence.

Back when "game" was first being discussed on the internet, when a bunch of random people would gather on anonymous forums to talk about how to succeed with women, theory was developed by copying the behaviour of people who were naturally good with women.

A bunch of guys who were bad with women copied the behaviour of confident, attractive men, and they found out that women cant really tell the difference. Its quite literally a fake it til you make it. The woman you approach doesnt know your life history of being a loser, she can only judge you on the behaviour that you present to her.

So yes you should develop competence to build real confidence. You should go to the gym, pickup a hobby that you can make measurable progress in, work on your career etc. But in the meantime, if you consciously display the same type of behaviour that competent, confident, attractive men naturally display, you can succeed with women.

Physical features is one aspect of attraction, one that is usually overrated by lonely men (because it fits into their victim story). Women especially put less importance on looks than most men. Many other things will make you more attractive : the way you talk, the way you dress, your charisma, you confidence, the way you love life and take risks. Confidence, gratitude, abundance, self-love, intelligence, loving your body, emotional maturity, integrity, sovereignty, patience, a sense of purpose, depth… all of those qualities will impact your radiance, your energy, and how people will feel around you. They will make you more attractive.

What needs to shift in my opinion isn't just confidence. It's "locus of control".

An external locus of control means a person believes their life is mainly shaped by external forces like luck, fate, social forces, or circumstances outside their control.

An internal locus of control means a person believes their life largely results from their own actions, decisions, and effort. Success or failure depends on their behaviour, preparation, or persistence.

To be clear, this isn't like a statement of fact. Of course we're all shaped by our environment and starting conditions, and our actions affect our life. It's more a difference in how much control you feel you have over it.

Imagine you're a fish in a river. There might be some others who are bigger fish, stronger fish... You might be caught in a strong current, maybe stronger than some others have to deal with. If you believe that equals fate then you might as well stop swimming and it'll sweep you away. But if you believe that your own actions can, not reshape the river, but drive your through it so that you're self-directing, then you're gonna swim hard as fuck. You're going to realize that you have a lot more control over your life than you expected. And, like salmon, you can swim up waterfalls.

I’m just gonna respectfully disagree with the answers on this post telling you that confidence exists in proven results, because that is a very unstable foundation.

All five of your questions point to the same issue: you’re calculating your value using external variables that you cannot control.

You’re asking how someone can be confident without success, or love themselves if others react negatively. But that assumes your worth is determined by outcomes and other people’s reactions. You don’t control most of that.

You can improve your health, your skills, your social ability, but you’ll never control how people respond to you. If your self-worth depends on that, you’ve basically handed the steering wheel of your identity to the rest of the world.

Confidence “from within” just means using a different metric. Instead of judging yourself by results, judge yourself by inputs. Do you train your body? Millions of men don’t. Do you reflect on your behaviour and try to understand yourself? Billions of people never do.

Those things are actually within your control, and they’re worth respecting in yourself.

Ironically, people who operate that way tend to come across as more confident and more attractive socially. You stop behaving like someone whose value depends on everyone else’s approval, which comes across as more genuine and relatable.

Confidence is a process which involves many steps.

Internal dialogue. The way you talk to yourself heavily impacts your self esteem. If you keep thinking things like “i don’t know why i even try” “i always fail”, “i am a loser”, “im an idiot”, “i suck with women”, “someone like me does not deserve to be liked or loved by women”... All of those thigns you say to yourself in your head will make your less confident in a steady manner. Because you are basically being a bad friend to yourself. If you talked like that to your friends when they fail, they would tell you to fuck off because you are making them feel even more shitty about themsleves. But when you do it with yourself you allow it, you keep attacking yourself and that destroys any self esteem you may have left.
Self acceptance. The problem is not having flaws. The problem is not accepting yourself with those flaws. You might be short, ugly, etc But the main problem here is your attitude about it. Girls are testing your character and strength. For girls the main problem is not that you are short or ugly or whatever flaw you may have, the problem is hating yoruself for having that flaw. That’s what the girls notice that you are not comofrtoable in your own skin, you aren’t happy with who you are. And that’s what turns them off more than anything. And yes girls will test you, they will call out your flaws. If you are fat they will say “you are fat”. That’s because they need to see your characte, your reaction to see if you truly feel good with yourself or are insecure. Accepting rejection and not basing your worh on it. The problem is you assume rejection = I’m worthless/inadaquate/loser... This makes you highly insecure since you based your worth on someone else’s judgment of yourself, a judgment that carries more weight than the judgment you have on yourself. You don’t know your worth or you don’t even appreciate your worth, so you base your worth based on what other people decides has value. As if their word was law, as if their criteria was the correct way to measure value, and your own criteria was the incorrect one. Why do you assume a person you know nothing about has a better criteria than you? What makes her qualified to have a better criteria? Nothing, and yet you let her opinion or judgement affect you emotionally. I choose my own criteria and i decide that everything about me is worth a lot, and if others don’t see that, i simply assume their criteria is bad. You may think this is a delusion, but you are also deluding yourself if you think their criteria is better than yours when you know nothing about them. So if you are gonna delude yourself, at least delude yourself in a way that benefits you.
Rejection doesnt mean you are undesirable, it just means you don’t connect with someone. A girl rejecting you means you are not compatible, and that you don’t connect with her emotionally or sexually. That isn’t a reflectio of your worth, or desirability score. It’s absurd to imply that because not everyone you like has to like you back then that means you are not likeable. The problem however is that because you hate rejection then as soon as you get a 5 of them, then that’s it. That is enough for you to determine that no one in the entire country likes you. But what happens if you learn to deal with rejection? What if you learn to not take it personal so that it no longer affects you? What if getting rejected did not carry any emotional weight on you as if you offered them a chewing gum and rejected it because they don’t like it? You would not fear rejection and you would be ok taking more chances.
Silencing your ego. This weird need to fit in with others, to seek their respect and approval. The need to prove yourself, your worth, your manliness, to other people. The need to project an image of success to other people. The need to make sure that you avoid rejection because then other people would think you are a loser for getting rejected, so you would rather avoid rejection than having your image that you want others to believe destroyed. Your ego wants to be equal ot others, or superior, but never inferior. Your ego cannot accept the idea that you are not as perfect as others, or as smart, or as desirable... Your ego cannot let others to think of you as inferior to them. But you are not your ego, and your needs should not be the needs of your ego. The ego is fake, it’s just an abstract image you have of yoruself or which you want others to believe. It’s a facade, a front, and that facade has no benefits because it’s fake and fragile.
Resilience: Every failure, every rejection is nothing but an ecperienec to learn and do better the next time. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from challenges and adversity, and growing and learning from those rejections, failures. You need to embrace challenges with girls as opportunities for growth and learning. Rather than fairing rejection because you don’t want proof that you are not worth anything, seek rejection as an opportunity to learn from the experience and improve your skills for future trials. Okay so some of what you're saying is actually valid and some of it is completely wrong and I'll tell you why.

You're right that confidence alone doesn't magically transform your physical appearance. A picture of you looking confident looks the same as a picture of you not confident. That part is true and the people telling you otherwise are oversimplifying it.

But here's where you're going wrong because attraction isn't just a picture. It's a live experience and how you carry yourself, how you talk, how you move through a room, whether you seem like someone who gives a shit what everyone thinks all of that is felt in real time and it absolutely affects how people perceive you. Not because it changed your face but because attraction is way more than just a face.

The basketball analogy doesn't work here because basketball has fixed measurable requirements and dating doesn't.. There's no height minimum to get a date. Ugly guys get girls every single day, broke guys, short guys, fat guys all of them are pulling as you've seen it yourself. So the physical requirements clearly aren't as fixed as you think they are.

The confidence from within stuff is cheesy phrasing for something real though. It basically just means stop seeking external validation to feel okay about yourself because that's a hole that never gets filled. It doesn't mean pretend your problems don't exist.

And look if western dating feels like a wall you keep running into then genuinely consider going to somewhere like the Philippines. Confidence has a BIOLOGICAL component to it. It's related to your SEROTONIN system. If you're serotonin deficient it's IMPOSSIBLE for you to feel or think with confidence. When it's high your body says yes I can meet my daily needs and it stabilizes your nervous system. When it's low your body says I don't know what to do, something wrong and you have lots of anxiety in your nervous system. None of the psychological shit matter or even external stuff if your body not producing it. That's why people with seemingly perfect lives commit suicide.

Women naturally have lower serotonin and often feel scared and anxious hence the SSRI ( selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) epidemic we are currently living in.

If you never heard of this do your research and you find everything in saying it's true. Confidence usually comes as a feedback loop - but part of that loop is what you focus on....

So if your metric is "will women date me" the feedback loop could be negative for now and might stay that way until you focus elsewhere.

If the feedback loop is, am I working hard on things I believe in - health, fitness, career - you can find positive feedback first from the obvious wins and results and then from feedback from others.

Look in the mirror and make a decision to improve what you can control. Mental health improves with physical health. I'm in similar situation and I am slowly working out what I can do to improve things that are under my control.

If you can make normal conversation with people (men/women) and keep them interested while you speak thats actually a huge step. If you can't, like me, start by seeing which topics to avoid . What is socially acceptable to say. Even if it feels feel forced ,you will learn something.

I'm telling you from a personal experience, so take it with a grain of salt.

Take some heroic dose of psilocybin mushrooms and you can learn to love, accept and be comfortable with the way you are - not because you're successful.

This makes you give off DGAF energy, and people can sense this. If you're trying to get confidence from other people's validation or success, only a small fraction of winners will feel confident.

Be extremely careful with psychedelics and do some extensive research beforehand if you're gonna do it.
