Here in Aus, a group of powerful male ferminists centered on Michael Flood is labelling criticism of feminism "ideological misogyny". (Example) And they are pushing for censorship & use of the security apparatus based on an argument that manosphere = "ideological misogyny" = incel = terrorism. (Example )

“The manosphere” is much like “the patriarchy”—it doesn’t really exist. It’s a nebulous bogeyman conjured up by misandrists, who use it in their propaganda to destroy or weaken as much as they can related to men.

Notice how many negative terms like “mansplain” and “toxic masculinity” they’ve devised—these are all part of a broader effort to manipulate public perceptions and turn them against men.

It's a big umbrella term that lumps together any person or content that speaks directly to men as an audience with any manner of message that contains any friction with feminist dogma.

I think this definition is pretty consistent with the way the term is used. Of course, such people and content exist. So the manosphere exists in that sense. The people who use the term will never agree to offer an honest, concrete definition of it, because doing so would undermine the game they're playing. And the game is that it allows a single word to instantly delegitimize anyone who presents the slightest bit of antagonism to feminism by lumping them in with Andrew Tate.

I wonder if Andrew Tate understands that he was the greatest gift feminism could have ever asked for.

Manosphere is far from a unified brotherhood. You have tradcons who think PUAs are sexual degenerates who think conservatives are cucks who think MGTOW are cowards who think incels are losers who think TRP guys are gynocentrist, etc. They all hate or at minimum disagree with each other and the only reason they're lumped in with each other is because left-leaning media hates them all.

No, it’s just people on the internet with opinions. Some people will agree with those opinions, others won’t. There’s things Andrew Tate says I agree with, things I don’t, and everything in-between. Not very complicated. If you dislike those opinions, you’ll have to explain why they’re wrong (and yours are right).

The narrative is that young men are being radicalized by online extremism to hate feminism. Men obviously dislike feminism, increasingly so, the question is why, and the answer is legion. Blaming Andrew Tate for corrupting the youth means they don’t have to consider

Men fundamentally dislike feminism, and addressing that requires them to fundamentally alter feminism which they would never do. There are things feminists do and feminism preaches that men are opposed to. Blaming Andrew Tate allows them to externalize that blame. Furthermore, it’s an example of the general mind games/gaslighting they play to try to manipulate men’s values and sense of self. “You don’t really believe that, you’ve been brainwashed by the patriarchy/toxic masculinity/the manosphere box/the manosphere. What you actually think is what I believe and you need me to tell you how to live.”

Men’s sense of self has supposedly been imposed onto them by patriarchal gender roles, and liberating oneself means accepting their values as your own. “Be open about your feelings, but ew not like that, do it like this. You don’t think that, you think this.”

You can discredit someone’s values without even explaining why those values are wrong. Similar to calling someone a grifter instead of challenging their argument. If you hold an opinion they deem “manosphere,” then it’s invalid by default. Furthermore, if they deem it “manosphere” then it’s by default not your own originally opinion and therefore invalid.

Let's not start playing dumb about labels and concepts we all clearly understand. It was cringe when far leftists and Democrats pretended not to know what "woke" means a few summers ago, and it would be cringe if we tried to feign ignorance about what the manosphere is.

The Manosphere is a predominantly online subculture of content catering to men that engages with gender and social topics from a male-centric and feminist-critical or antifeminist perspective.

<soapbox> If we're ever going to make any progress, one thing that men's advocates are going to have to get over is our skittishness about external labeling, guilt by association and other such thought terminating tactics.

The people who try to discredit us by branding the scarlet letters of "Red Pill" or "Manosphere" aren't suddenly going to start listening to us if we somehow avoid sharing some particular label with Andrew Tate. They'll just come up with some other black mark, because the branding isn't really the point.

The point is that we aren't towing the party line and thus must be shouted down and destroyed at all costs. The move is to ignore the True Believers and let our actual discussions, principles and dialogues transcend the namecalling.

I don’t think it’s really been defined as anything too specific. Some seem to use it to refer to toxic podcasters like the Tate brothers, some use it to stigmatise any man with a podcast.

The lack of a real definition IMO causes a lot more harm to well meaning individuals. To be fair as well though, scam artists with podcasts SHOULD be stigmatised.

A few ridiculous chuds like Tate, F&F, and Sneako got together on streams and did collabs or whatever a few times and suddenly it's a "manosphere" - when in reality it's just a few assholes grifting.

But because they spew sexism, and they peddle self-help, apparently a vast network of misogynist influence exists as the "manosphere."

Funny, because these guys fight and bicker like grade schoolers.

I'm not denying they've had a bad influence on people. But the way the manosphere is often framed makes its sound far more competent and organized than it is - when reality it's just a very loose collective of scammers peddling a product.
