This is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while

[–]wellhellothere45 24 points25 points26 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I honestly thought this was a good depiction lol. But yeah, my upper back leans forward a bit and I have like a "line" posterier chain. (i mean not exactly but you get what I am saying)

And my fat is curled over in the front, it isn't very much but my chest sags a little.

6'3 182 lbs

[–]AscensionExperiments15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

"my upper back leans forward a bit" that's called being kyphotic. Stretch pecs, strengthen back. When working out in the future, assign 2x as much volume to the back as to the chest

[–]wellhellothere45 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

sounds good. i think the point is I don't even have enough muscle per se to walk with good posture, like the muscles are too weak to hold them up, feel me? I can get into good posture for like 10 seconds but then I either forget about it. or my muscles start to tire.

I only sit for 2 - 5 hours a day now im dedicated

[–]MrFiles4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Check out Elliot hulse. His videos helped my posture

[–]FKaroundNfindOUT1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Get a band and do pull aparts twice daily (high, mid and low) at high reps. Stretch your pecs. Eat. Sleep.

[–]wellhellothere45 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

link to a proper band? thanks bro

[–]Randy_Marsh20241 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Something like this will do the trick depending on needed resistance. Look for a YouTube video if you don’t know how to do pull aparts.

Your posture isn’t horrible but if you do deadlifts, squats, bench, shoulder press and pull ups your body will proportionalize itself.

You have anterior pelvic tilt. Just typing those words in on Google and YouTube will give you a plethora of resources to fix it. It is due to a tight lower back and weak glutes.

First of all, bro, you want to become 3D instead of 2D. Those DIMENSION GAINZ are where it's at.

Look up fucking postures and get legit athletic or medical advice. You probably have anterior pelvic tilt...I say that not cuz of your shitty image, but because that's the most common modern posture failure mode.

[–]dpgproductions15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Strip naked at a lake, preferably a vacant one. Proceed to walk far enough through the water to where you may easily pop a squat low enough to where only your nuts dip into the lake. Only then will you truly understand what this all means.

[–]SeriousProfit8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

For anyone seriously wondering how to fix posture from a previous hunchbacked gamer, do this.

Work the posterior chain.

Deadlifts, Rows, Pullups, Rear delt flys, Facepulls.

It works. Also you can get a posture brace for 15 dollars on amazon, wear it 30 minutes a day combined with working out and you will have amazing posture within a month.

[–]wellhellothere45 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for this. My right shoulder is weaker than my left, so I can't really do rows. I do signal leg deadlifts, and single arm face pulls

I also bought a posture brace too

EDIT: Can you pm me the one you use on amazon? thanks

[–]SeriousProfit0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

To even out that unbalance, only do as many reps as you can do with your weaker shoulder on the stronger shoulder.

So if you can only manage to do 4 sets of 5 with the weak shoulder, only do 4 sets of 5 with the stronger shoulder using the same weight, and it should help even it out. Try doing 1 arm Dumbell rows. I also had some imbalances when I started lifting.

[–]wellhellothere45 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thank you yes. I do one arm rows I just have trouble squeezing my back of my shoulder on my right side. left shoulder is fine. same with concentration curls, I curl fine on my left arm but on my right arm I have to jab my left fingers into my right shoulder to hold it back if that makes sense

started lifting in dec, have gained 7 lbs

[–]FKaroundNfindOUT1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you yes. I do one arm rows

Check this:

https://youtu.be/EEFHHOCfHgw

You will really benefit from a solid pushup/Australian rows (https://youtu.be/wKUwT1qsXWE) only combo for one month. It won't matter how you do this as long as you do volume. 10 each at first, minimum then start to push to get as many as you can with good form and even right/left effort. If you can't do 10 or even one, don't sweat it. Just go knees down on pushups and bend knees on the other until you can do full version.

That should fix your imbalance and set you up to safely take on a beginner program.

[–]MCAsomm5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Very seriously start doing back exercises (deadlifts, shoulder blade thingies, etc) to strengthen your back. That's a good starting point for any problem.

[–]wellhellothere45 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

interspersed deadlifts during workouts?

[–]MCAsomm1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm no gym pro but I never do interspersed. I do one at a time (ex: 3x5 deadlift, next is 3x8 curls, next is 3x8 skullcrush, of course with a 1x10-15 warmup before each)

Starting Strength is a good starting point if you never went to the gym. Else, ask anyone at your gym, and maybe they'll help if they got the time. Who knows maybe you'll even make friends :)

[–]wellhellothere45 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yes I have no friends. Would starting strength be good for someone with muscular imblances? Someone whos right shoulder is weaker and I need to "Round it back" more than the left shoulder.

picture this I have a flat chest and back when I am in erect posutre

[–]MCAsomm3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Again I'm no expert so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If you need to ask if SS is good, I'll assume that you've never followed any gym guide not made by yourself (not a bad thing necessarily). The logic of SS is to just get you strong enough to start doing real lifting, and, if you're at the stage which you need SS, you probably have so little muscle mass that any imbalance is minor and will disapear quickly.

The exercises in SS are all uniform and involve lots of muscle (squats, deads, power cleans, etc) so if your imbalance is really an issue you'll need to do something else. Its only goal is to make you strong up to basic/medium gym levels.

For way better advice, google starting strength, ask some strong people in your gym or go on /fit/. I've also just started lifting 4 months ago, but it does make a very good change on posture.

Basic trick to get rid of flat back would be to remember to arch it a tiny bit in the bottom and keep your shoulder blades back.

Here's a link on posture https://www.exrx.net/Kinesiology/Posture

[–]8700nonK0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The back is not supposed to be flat. It's supposed to have two curves. You'd better see a specialized doctor.

Personal trainer fixes posture while lifting.

There are some pretty obsessive women out there that come from families where it was a big deal, they will constantly remind you.

Other than that you can put up reminders, set some on your phone, sticky note on your computer, fridge, back of your phone, car dashboard, locker, everywheres.

If you really want to change, keep a loud sign in your face everywhere you turn reminding you to check your posture.

I suggest FAT RED INK with FAT BLACK OUTLINING.

I put down what I'm trying to accomplish in my journal, when I get around to writing in it, so usually I'll give myself some nice self talk

"Hey you, get the oil changed in your car, you are literally fucking it up rn. Rotate the tires and don't puss out on leg day, shit is legit important."

But put in posture. Just keep at it. You will get there. Go hard for 90 days, every way you know to make a new habit. After that it should be natural autopilot.

Or you are fucked.

Romanian deadlifts did it for me. Had a personal trainer when I first started lifting and he made me start every single workout, no matter what it was with Romanian deadlifts. Two weeks later and a very sore back and I was standing up properly.

This is what I will be doing then. I wonder if I can do body weight or dumbbell ones to start

Man up. Learn the movement and use a barbell.

Yoga is a great catchall. I’m 6’ 225 and been doing it for two years and it’s helped tremendously, squatting stacked for the first time in my life.

Specifically: stretch pecs, strengthen lower traps,

learn to keep your core engaged while breathing (belly vs chest breathing), breathing with your nose vs . Mouth.

Stretch psoas Strengthen glutes, lower abs,

Every stretch needs to be accompanied by strengthening of opposing muscle.

Your current posture is the result of years of particular muscle engagement patterns and strength , it will take time and effort to fix , but is certainly doable, and your case isn’t terrible.

All this stuff, what ppl mentioned + STRETCHING.

I'm gonna give you some shitty girly advice, so be careful. I seriously recommend Yoga for It (Go for some manly violent martial arts to make It even)

I started It a few months ago (2 times per week classes and everyday at home) and my posture became way better.

The problem is:

Your muscles are STIFF. Every single time I go to the gym I feel way more stiff than before, so It requires me to do stretching TWICE when I have a training day (so 3 times a week in fact).

My muscles are still stiff as hell compared to those swiftly yoga girls, but It doesn't matter. What matters is, that if you don't ditch stretching you are already above 80~90ish% of Man what don't give a fuck about It.

Few months of stretching and your posture is gonna rock. I'm telling ya.

(Bear in mind, It gets annoying after a while. Compared to lifting what is building up your muscles and boosting your testosterone, stretching is more like struggle, but still good thing to do.)
