Well traditional society is no longer the guaranteed norm. Women are liberated. The scales have tipped towards their side by quite a bit. This is a new deviation that I don't believe has happened before in history. It takes time to notice that what was once a given, is not longer so. It takes longer to formulate a plan to correct or take advantage of it.

New models for dating aren't guaranteed to be internalized by everyone. For every guy who understood how to operate since High School, there's another who has no idea what they're doing.

The manosphere tries to collaborate with each other to better understand the game and try to be more successful with it. Again, it takes time to notice that things have massively shifted. It take time to hash out these ideas and see what works or not. The internet didn't really start taking off until the late 90s so about 20 years for people recognize a potential problem and try to solve it. 15 years until they develop a solid base to try to level the playing field. Pretty good time all things considered. Love or hate their philosophy, it's impressive the resources and collective knowledge they've managed to accumulate.

There is the caveat that it hasn't really risen that much. I'm pretty young and only heard about it through reddit, and I had been on the site for years at that point. I only heard about it through someone hating on the sub and it getting quarantined, and I wanted to check out what fucked up shit it was pedaling. Was weird to see that some of the stuff they were sharing I agreed with. Blue Pillers do more for awareness than Red Pillers do.

The Internet has made the job market so much harder because businesses have hundreds or thousands of applicants rather than a few dozen. The same has happened for dating, so women can be as picky as possible.

Also this is a part of a backlash to feminism which has gone so far that relatively innocent displays of masculinity are completely demonized.

The MRM is a response to the anti-male actions of feminism as well as traditionalist gender expectations that disadvantage men.

Society has evolved in a way that eliminates most of the advantages of being male while elevating the advantages of being female. I can't say for certain whether these changes are absolute or just relative, but either way they have happened very quickly, leaving men bewildered. E.g. there were once a lot more jobs for ordinary guys who could do physical labor -- no college degree needed, no need to sit down and focus on a screen ten hours a day, no need for excessive detail orientation and organization. Those jobs are mostly gone. The jobs that replace them are service industry jobs that on average favor the abilities of women.

I also think we have (with good intentions) created all kinds of empowering and positive narratives for girls and women to follow in order to counter past sexism, but we're also afraid to give men and boys any kind of positive narrative because it's automatically seen as exclusionary to women. So we have girl power and girls can be anything and all that stuff, but anything positive you say specifically about boys is decried as "gendered" or "toxic." I think this is an underrated cause -- the narratives people have about their own lives are EXTREMELY important to how they feel about themselves.

Men are basically told there is no way for them to be good other than, at best, as a kind of supportive role of the empowerment of women. Meanwhile men find IRL that playing that "supportive role" makes them far less appealing in the dating world than they thought, whereas guys who display traditionally male traits are seen as more attractive.

Science has more or less invalidated the concept of religion and as such, all “religious” concepts of things like purpose have been abolished as well.

There’s no more religious inscription on people’s hearts, no more instruction for women to become mothers and for men to become protectors.

Women responded to this overthrow of their ostensibly subordinated status by trying to become men, and men responded in kind by no longer trying to become “men”.

Men have no longer feel a spiritual obligation to be fathers, providers, and protectors. There is no sense of purpose associated with becoming a patriarch, but all the liabilities still exist.

The sexual revolution happened, but men noticed they weren’t getting laid more, and small percentage of men were getting the sex and attention they always did, but now it’s way more and easier. What draws men to the manosphere is their inability to get laid, and then they veer off into their respective areas. Either they were the kind of men who could realistically be helped by TRP, or they become incels because they tried the advice and learn they aren’t hot enough to get laid. I can guarantee that the manosphere wouldn’t have even close to as many people even caring about it if most men were getting laid.

I was around as it was happening almost in real time.

MRA started it all. MRA is the starting point. MRA was a “reaction” and “response” to feminism. MRA initially started out its existence by falling victim to late stage feminism. It didn’t really have a concrete agenda. It was just basically bitching and complaining about “social issues” and “unfairness concerning men.” Things like suicide, joblessness, less money going to social programs and medical research “for men” as compared to women. The education system, work related deaths, etc. These issues were important, but not really “legal rights” as the name, “Men’s Rights Association” would suggest.

One of the issues MRA began to focus on was “family law.” This was starting in 1958, but started to gain organizational structure in 1973. The “tender years doctrine” automatically awarding custody to mothers was challenged in most states. From 1999-2006, “alimony” was renamed “spousal maintenance,” and courts began to hold that men could be entitled to pendente lite awards for counsel and expert fees, temporary and even permanent maintenance. This was “legal” progress, but many issues (especially relating to family law) were still left untouched.

During this same time period, 1999-2006, non-lawyer armchair internet warriors started to get involved in “MRA” online communities and complain about the entire institution of “marriage.” This “spin off” resulted in MGTOW, which “started” (like anti-vaxers) from some male Jenny McCarthy spreading fear and paranoia over “divorce rape” (despite things starting to get better for men in this area of the law).

MGTOW, as you can expect from any echo chamber based on fear and paranoia, “evolved” (or devolved, depending how you look at it) into men not merely rejecting “marriage,” but choosing to reject “women altogether!” It basically turned into a “boycott” and contraction of “demand” for female companionship of any kind. The justifications ranged from vindication to “legal suicide via intentional refusal to procreate and add any further to Earth’s population crisis.”

PUA didn’t really evolve from either MRA or MGTOW. PUA is actually completely unrelated. It started as a way for book publishers to repackage “dating advice” books to men and refuel sales. With the change in how consumers purchased and consumed this information, “individuals” began to try and create “social proof” for their own flavor of “advice” and sell books and courses to vulnerable men looking for a magical potion and shortcut/hack to get what they wanted from that area of life. But at the end of the day, the driving force behind PUA was always $$$ “money” $$$ to whoever was selling “advice” from whoever was buying it.

Lastly, RP grew out of PUA. It started as people who were merely having discussions online FOR FREE, examining actual science evolutionary psychology and human female sexuality. One of the key texts that is responsible for creating RP is “The Manipulated Man” by Esther Vilar. Men started to discovery multiple anti-feminist female authors, many medical doctors or psychologists, who critically examined BP (the “status quo” or “traditional” gender roles). Again, the “problem” was that the people who often approached these legitimate and interesting topics were men. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but they injected their own biases and personal frustrations into it.

As a result, RP ended up being a giant “fuck you” to women. Men reclaiming and harnessing their masculine sexual power, refusing to be a woman’s work horse, refusing to cater to a woman’s imperative, and exchanging his SMV (as a top 1% man) in exchange for a woman’s SMV (as a top 30% woman). It was a horrible bargain and trade for men, but the way they saw it, they were getting fucked for centuries (and not in a good way), so, they might at well do some fucking while they’re at it and they’ll gladly “trade” the top 1% (man) for top 30% (women) on a temporary basis.

Then, just like PUA, you started getting some people trying to “commercialize” RP and sell RP “theory” to men. IMO, that’s basically PUA disguised as RP.

Then, post-2008/2009, RP went to shit. Enter the Incel community. These were basically guys who were Blue pill and stumbled upon red pill, read it for 1 to 2 months, tried it for 1 to 2 months, and then got furious because they were not getting anything but rejection. These are like the guys go to the gym for 1 to 2 months, don’t end up looking like a bodybuilder, and so they quit and start getting angry at everyone else and accusing them of taking steroids we’re having no job or being blessed with incredible genetics.

Now it’s one thing if a guy is in the bottom 20% in terms of attractiveness. But a lot of these Incel communities Or made up a very young teenage guys were just trying to still find their way in the world and exposed to very toxic and very negative mentalities by other men. These communities basically turn into a breeding ground for hate and resentment towards both men and women. One big self-loathing circle jerk.

And finally, the red pill forums are now basically the insecure losers club. Bunch of guys pretending to be someone online they are not in real life, masturbating to the idea of their ideal self and hoping that someone else on the other end believes it. Then they also attack anyone who threatens their sense of superiority and dominance, because they have to be mad alpha, bro. In other words, grown adult men behaving like the real housewives or typical catty women.

The only real red pill community that’s left is maybe bodybuilding.com or genuine MMA or camping/survivalism forums.

I believe capitalism could have been a trigger, but was not the cause. The reason for being the trigger, is that manosphere really took off after the recession in 2007. I don't think there would be such a rise if economic good times were abound. Feminism is the cause though. Women had their voices heard and the paradigm was changed. I think men are waking up and thinking "wait, we didn't really get any input on these changes". I believe the rise is somewhat related to the economy as well since men have lost more jobs and economic standing in the past decades than women.

The manosphere is partially a consequence of the fact that honest male expression or opinion from an honest male perspective is being socially repressed in Western mainstream society, whilst female expression is given the green light and protected.

Women are freer to say what they want about men without much adverse consequence from mainstream society, whereas men are instantly labelled as misogynistic bigots and ostracised if their commentary on women is not sufficiently obsequious. This creates an imbalance in honest public conversation between men and women which is disadvantageous to men, causes a lot of frustration amongst men and creates the need for men to express themselves elsewhere under the protection of anonymity.

If both gender's expression was equally repressed or if both genders were allowed to express themselves with the equal amount of consequence in mainstream society, the manosphere would either not exist or would be less angry than it is. The imbalanced restriction of expression is a key cause of the manosphere phenomenon.

In terms of the actual content of the manosphere, there are different parts of the manosphere which are interested in different things. Some parts just want to improve their sexual success with women (PUA), other parts seek to defend men's rights against the pervasive misandry in Western society (MRM) and others still seek to advance male freedom and autonomy from the maltreatment of women and society (MGTOW). Whatever the area, all seek to express ideas that cannot be uttered in mainstream society without potentially severe consequences. The latter two in particularly also represent men's growing awareness of the ways in which society disregards men's interests, wellbeing and perspective if they do not conform to gynocentric preferences.

Red Pill is a reaction to the vanishing of male privilege from dating faster than just about any other space in the world. Feminism has not come to congress like it's come to dating. When this all first sprang up, when the biggest hub on Reddit was /r/MensRights and Red Pill wasn't actually a term in common useage yet, it was a mixture of men angry about divorces, PUAs who were angry at being called out for straight date rape tactics (Isolate her at your house, drive her so she can't leave, get her drunk and keep physically initiating till she gives in/doesn't say no like date rape), and the forerunners of the incels.

/r/MensRights used to fume over things like when universities and states started tightening down rape laws and including stuff about intoxication and men literally raged about the age old tradition of fucking people blackout drunk at college. "They want it they just regret it the next day" and this and that. There were some legit issues, but they were never discussed like it, just more fuel for the rage fire.

Then out of that fire came Red Pill. An attempt to codify some kinda "philosophy" about women that would give men that feeling of confidence they had with male privilege back. Red Pill still talks about women like they are like children who need to be herded, or so I have heard. I know it was super common when red pill started, to act like men were just the superior sex/gender in every way and that women should just bow. It was incel level coping, but with a less hopeless bent. Blackpill is like "nothing works we're all doomed fuck everything" and red pill was "We can still come out on top of these bitches, they're all children we just have to figure out how to put them back in their place without getting arrested"

And then of course, they spent alot of time and still do raging at the societal mechanisms which are now in some ways enforcing feminism. There's alot more acceptance of it now though. I don't ever see anyone venture "Women are asking for rape and here's why" threads in PPD, they were pretty common 5 years ago in red pill spaces.

Now if you're asking why America? A cocktail of sexual repression and country wide emotional immaturity. Humans grow in mindfulness of others, awareness of the world around them in real time, empathy, etc, when engaging in relationships.

We did not used to depend solely on the nuclear family and romance to provide these. Community used to be a real, manifest thing. When you don't have a billion individual screens to disappear into people get bored and seek out other people to relieve the boredom. Thankfully the internet bridged that quite a bit so we can disappear into screens to seek out people. When it was just TV this was a genuine nightmare.

America really feels like a social experiment. They overworked our parents and underpaid them, sent us all to schools to become good cubicle drones, have fed us through marketing and advertising a load of needs and wants we wouldn't otherwise have, have conditioned us towards rampant consumerism, have successfully demonized human sexuality well enough to divide the country over multiple sexual issues... I mean we argue about abortion, porn, gay people, sex work, sexual education, and more. And our politicians look up at the ceiling when we ask serious economic questions. Feels a bit...staged.. at this point. Feels like a society designed to create depression and anxiety.

No people talk about the divorce rate and blame marriage. I will always be the first to say default monogamy isn't healthy for a large swath of the population (including me) but marriage isn't and has never been the problem. The problem is people not knowing how to do marriage. Not knowing how to show respect, how to communicate, how to deal with their own internal emotional experience in a way that doesn't vent it onto the world. That's not a gendered issue. I run into it with women as much as I do men. Women were raised to feel vs men's stoicism but no one is taught healthy emotional patterns anywhere unless their parents know and can teach it. And parents in gen x and the boomers had no fucking idea by and large.

We are not an emotionally healthy country. Dating isn't supposed to be like it is now. This is not the goal. This is just part of the journey. What's the goal? We aren't sure what it looks like over here either. But we understand what homeostasis and sustainability are and we're trying to find it.

Red pill isn't. "Enjoy the decline" isn't.

There are demographic, economic, social and political shifts happening all the time. 1000 years ago it was Christians being enslaved or persecuted by romans. 600 years ago it was Christians being enslaved by Muslims. 300 years ago, it was africans being enslaved by Christians. Nowadays, its white male power receding and the brown/female coalition trying to crush all dissent.

The longer you live and the more you study history, the more you realize pretty much everything anyone ever believed is bullshit, and that human relations just go in a big circle of oppressor -> oppressed -> oppressor again. And all the belief systems and grand moral crusades are just a rationalization for this continual process of power seeking and gang warfare.

In medieval times everyone who actually cared about any of this, probably genuinely thought their king was the only just and fair one out there, and that the chucklefucks over in that other kingdom are in fact, godless heathens who want to eat our babies. Only with the objectivity of great temporal distance do we see that all those kingdoms were in fact, pretty samey. And a long time from now, I think stuff like feminism and manosphere will be studied in much the same fashion. Not as players in some big sweeping meaningful fight over the destiny of humanity, but more like opposing football teams, or neighbor kingdoms that share almost everything but still somehow manage to hate each other. Insular little groups of people that fight over some poor, barely fertile patch of earth, with words and online forums instead of axes and maces because that's how warfare is done in the 21st century... but still ultimately the same sort of pointless conflict.

I think maybe the only social constructs of merit produced by the world in the last thousand years or so can be summed up in the American bill of rights. Just a very basic set of principles that forbid you from violating other peoples person, freedoms and property. Whenever an idealogy attempts to go much further beyond basic rights, it seems to quickly devolve into excuses to violate those basic rights, because They deserve it, or They are trying to crush us first so it's only fair, or They historically persecuted us so now we're owed something... etc etc.

I guess what im saying is, there will always be these societal clashes. Feminism. Communism. Socialism. Racism. All these -isms. And what it really boils down to is big gangs of people trying to get more for themselves, or get out from under the heel of another big gang... at which point they themselves usually become the next big gang and start crushing everyone under their heel. Us vs them, we are right, they are wrong... red pill vs blue pill... republican vs democrat. It's just the same thing over and over again.

I question the extreme credulity of people who seem to REALLY identify with, or support, any particular movement or group... because at the end of the day they are all made up of people, and therefore riddled with the same selfish motivations, hypocrisies, and lust for power that inevitably crop up in any "movement" made up of fallible human beings. This goes for feminists as well as anti feminists. There's a reason the extreme fringe of any movement come to resemble the extreme fringe on the other end of the spectrum. Idealogies, political parties, pillospheres... all just slightly more sophisticated versions of tribalism, the original and still prevailing form of human organization...

Reactionary stuff is the process to normalize things or "return things to normal". Feminism, much like Gay Rights has no other legitimate Civil Conquest to be had on the Western World. The Struggle has lost it's virtue and because they don't want to end their revolution by their own accord, a response to stop the revolution will be born, sometimes that response comes in the form of another revolution, this cycle renews itself.

I think it's just one instance of the internet enabling echo chambers which incubate extreme views. At heart most of these guys are angry at women for some reason, so they build a whole philosophy around it to justify their anger which may or may not be legitimate. Seeing the world as black and white is a lot easier than dealing with all the shades of gray.

There has been a backlash against every wave of feminism that ever happened. There was backlash against the suffragettes. There was a massive backlash against 2nd wave feminism in the 1980s. Susan Faludi even wrote a book about that particular backlash. The manosphere and the rise of Trump are part of the backlash against 3rd wave feminism.
