Deleting social media makes sense since most of it is pretty much useless.

Reddit = writing stuff that interests you

FB/IG = posting pics you want everyone to see, stalking others, actually giving a shit what they do , what they post.

I don't care about others and what they do in their free time, taking random pics and posting it on the web for no reason is also not my thing

So here’s the thing about it. It’s test-ably proven under experiment that using social media lowers people’s self confidence, happiness, and prpdictivity. It is my own hypothesis that it lowers your testosterone aswell. When Facebook engineers were asked they affirmed that this was in fact intentional because insecure people come back to Facebook to consume more advertising. This is the ethos of all social media: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, tinder, all of them. You receive a simulacrum of a forum of personal interactions without effort, but it’s secretly a scam, and the house always wins. If you plug yourself into a matrix of servers vying for meaningless transactions of data at the cost of your personal integrity, mind, career, health and happiness that’s not taking a red pill. That’s the blue pill, and individuals are worse off taking it.

Most of my friends and I (mid-20s) don't give a fuck if a guy has a social media presence. If anything I prefer a guy who isn't giving Facebook & Snapchat all his personal data.

Social media might boost a guy's SMV if he has pictures of him doing cool/fun things but aside from that it's pointless.

You are right about the general idea behind why deleting social media is encouraged - time sink, non productive, etc. The other talking point that you are missing is that deleting social media will rid you of looking at all of the "great" things your "friends" are doing and will faciliate the transition into focusing on yourself and developing self-love and self-confidence.

I think the problem with changing your view on this is that all evidence is going to be anecdotal. But if you google "deleting social media" you will find that most articles will link it to a better headspace and more happiness. I personally deleted all social media except for linkedin over a year ago and it has impacted my life extraordinarily for the better.

Worst advice for what? You’ll have to be a little more specific.

Social media literally does nothing for you as a developing individual. It’s good for wasting time (escapism) brushing up on your writing/grammar/vocab skills but that’s about it.

For what social media offers in terms of socializing, you’re going to benefit more from actually socializing in the real world. Deleting social media would be the equivalent of quitting a bad habit like smoking or drinking that provides no actual benefit to your life if you’re trying to change yourself.

Can a competent handyman get along just fine without that tool? Sure.

Can a redpill aware guy use that tool to expand his circle/influence other users/display traits to improve his brand? Sure.

Lol I assume you're an instagram bimbo. I'm not on any social media except on reddit which is rare too nowadays, and I'm getting laid pretty easy. Tinder is for easy lays and a rigged game, which doesn't really give you realistic expectations of the person you're talking to. The only thing I use consistently is Whatsapp, and I pick up women usually from bars, streets, colleges, etc.

Social media addicts aren't the only people who exist, bud. There are so many interesting women, and men, out there you're missing out on because you're too busy swiping left or right on your phone. All I can say is good luck for the future :)

As long as you have at least 2 of IG/FB/snap and have a normal amount of followers/friends then you're fine. I'm 20 and only have FB and snapchat. I'm not very active on either and it really makes no difference, a lot of girls understand that most men aren't nearly as active on social media as they are.

Now if you had many followers and lots of cool pictures, that could probably bump your SMV up, but the only way your SMV is decreased is if you're not on any social media at all like you said in the OP.

social media can be addictive, a huge waste of time and energy, and can skew your perceptions about whats really going on with other people IRL. so yeah you should limit your use of it and not be one of those people who is constantly refreshing.

there's also another reason RP discourages the use of social media. a lot of guys see a high SMV popular Chaddy guys who are always banging hotties and getting invited to cool parties and shit, and those guys have tons of followers and friends. and they know low SMV incel type guys who have like 3 followers on their social media. and sometimes these guys will (wrongly) believe that hot chicks are attracted to the Chaddy guys because they have so many followers and likes. and these guys will think that if they could get huge numbers of followers and likes that then hot chicks will be attracted to them as well. and then they start investing huge amounts of time and money to try to max out their social media. RP tells those guys to forget social media and hit the gym instead.

social media won't really boost your SMV. what it can do is advertise your SMV to a larger audience, which can be good or bad. instead of just the people in your IRL social circles and people who meet you in person, there are potentially a lot of people who are barely acquint who don't know you well and friends of friends and things like that. if you're high SMV and your social media profile reflects that, those people will try to come into your life. and on the flip side, if a chick meets you and isn't sure if she digs you or not, if she looks at your social media and it makes it clear that you're a low SMV loser, it's going to kill any potential attraction she will have toward you.

also, social media is a very important communication tool today. i use fb messenger and snapchat at least as much as i use old fashioned texting. and the majority of social events get planned and invites sent via social media. a LOT of shit happens in private hidden groups and event pages that are only visible to people who get invited. it's a very good way of preventing low value unattractive loser people from just showing up and trying to get involved

I didn't know going out of social media was a thing in TRP. On the opposite, I was sure that TRP asks to use the internet (and social media) to its full potential.

I just don't use it much because of my limited time, and limited knowledge on how to use them. So I prefer to not risk it.

Am I too old? social media was not a thing when I was a child (and barely when I was an teen) I am not yet 30.

Can anyone give me details about the matter?

Can you link the thread or sidebar that gives this advice? I think you’ll find the view on this is highly diverse and certainly not some consensus.

The few threads I’ve read long ago gave me great social media advice. I revamped my whole profile to emphasize status and the fun things I do - boating, flying, traveling. It’s a means to signify status and can be done with great effect as long as you don’t make it humble and not obvious and boastful.

My husband doesn’t have social media because of his job and he was applying with the dea and it was strongly suggested not to have social media online. He’s going for a different job now but he just doesn’t have an interest in having social media.

Employers do look through your social media, it’s not just dating you have to worry about. Unless there’s a good reason if I was single and dating and couldn’t find any social media imprint I would think the guy was hiding something.

lol usually I wouldn't get into a debate over this, but I will. I grew up with Facebook before status's and the ability to like photos. Facebook was a HUGE DEAL when you could find out if someone was single or not in high school without directly asking someone. You had to be someone big to be able to post pictures online from your digital camera to transfer onto your computer to upload to facebook. the iPhone OG made it a little easier, but that was the start of it all.

in undergrad, the less I used social media the better. I focused on my classes. I focused some attention to the cuties on campus and walking around. I talked to people and had conversations. this is the "old fashioned way." however even without social media I was successful dating and having the college experience.

social media isn't a need to be successful in life or dating. its the easy way out to have the smallest connection with another person instead of picking up the phone and having lunch, dinner, a drink, coffee, go for a run, etc.

women love men who are mysterious and they can't research who you were before hand.

TRP's reasoning for it is to rid yourself of the social media addition of instant gratification to understand you'll have to work hard to change things around. I currently have social media now, but it primarily sits. Use it for the messaging aspect and talking to family otherwise.

But also I only have 150 followers on IG and i wonder if thats worse than not having it at all. Even my friends who are even more shy and reserved than me have at least 300-400.

Deleting social media will do wonders for your mental health. I have taken month long breaks and I do feel much better. However I do agree its almost a necessary to have instagram/facebook/twitter if your goal is to spin plates. Almost every girl under 25 is addicted to social media and the first thing they are going to do after meeting you is look you up and see you aren't a loser. It is great to show that you are fun, social, have friends, and generally aren't a weirdo.

That's not just rp advice. Research has shown social media has a negative effect on many people. Mostly because people tend to judge themselves based off what other people post. May even lead to depression and suicide in young girls.

Personally i still have fb, but mostly just family and close friends only. And i do agree with you on reddit. It can also lead to negative feelings. Hell, maybe worse then fb

Couldn't disagree more. I stepped away from most social media when I was still in school and MySpace was where everyone I knew was. Things have only gotten better and easier socially for me since then. More recently a lot of my friends have been leaving Facebook / Twitter / Instagram and are nothing but better for it either.

But back in college, when I had “Facebook,” before Instagram and Snapchat became a thing, you had two options as a guy: (a) shirtless pictures (which you knew would be on the internet forever thanks to Google), or (b) stream of updates on where you were going, clothed pictures of you at social events and parties, being tagged, people commenting on your status or pictures, etc.

By senior year in college, I deleted my Facebook and focused exclusively on LinkedIn. Thankfully, Google didn’t pick up status updates, comments, tagged pictures and things like that. Though college clubs and professional societies, I was getting more phone numbers and getting more real connections with attractive girls I would actually have sex with than I ever did with Facebook.

After law school, different animal. You didn’t need social media. LinkedIn, your firm’s website and Google’s search results were the only “social media” you needed as a guy. You want to DHV as a guy? Don’t “try” to “be present” on social media. Instead, have Google pop up “earned media.”

You know what social media amounts to for men? Shirtless (look how hot and attractive you’ll feel if you fuck me) advertising, or $$$ (look how well I can provide for you) advertising. But underneath both, there’s still the fact that these men had to sit down, put in the time and effort to ... (drum roll) ... advertise themselves (i.e., actively and intentionally solicit attention). That’s the DLV in social media for men.

DHV is when someone Googles your name and 10+ pages of Google search results pop up, and the first page are news articles from professional organizations or news companies commenting on you or something you did (hopefully positive), addresses of real property in your name, charitable events you’ve been a guest speaker to or donations you’ve made, pictures of you in university or charity events, etc. This is a guy who doesn’t try or make an effort to advertise or solicit attention from women ... and yet, he’s got all this earned media.

Not having a social media presence doesn’t mean that you’re “invisible online” or “don’t exist on Google.”

Granted, if you’re under 30, what kind of “earned media” will you have? What wealthy parents are doing now is flooding Google search results with their child’s name and “buying” media to make it appear like it’s “earned” media.

Fuck sitting down taking selfies or updating your status. Fuck paying people to manage your Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Mommy and Daddy are working hard behind the scenes to make it look like you’re a fucking up and coming business genius socialite. And even if that’s the case, it’s still a DHV, because it communicates that this guy has a family of wealth that’s willing to drop money on him and transfer their wealth and power to him.

You can’t compete with “earned” media. No shirtless selfie or status update or tagged photo can compare. And in 5-10 years from now, if/when you’re a professional, all those shirtless selfies and status updates will hurt you professionally. Earned media, on the other hand, won’t hurt you.

That's hilarious, because my sister has no social media presence and she's doing just fine. She's never been more than a month without a partner and is making a ton of money just working for a pizzeria. She has her own place, her own car... She's always going to festivals and parties and generally having a great time.

I envy her, because we had practically the same upbringing and she's doing much better than I am.

That’s not true at all. Not having social media gives the impression that you spend time going out and doing things, are not narcissistic and live in the real world and not online. It’s 100% an attractive trait.

Not to mention most guys have social media profiles that are supremely unattractive to women. I’m talking about all of those guys who put a meme or a super weird pic edit as their profile picture, only post about video games or obscure jokes, and only have meme and joke photos with the odd pic of them holding a fish or a beer. Having no social media is waaay better than that.

I’ve heard that it’s also more attractive for women to not have social media for similar reasons.
