Hypergamy is overinflated in any culture where the casual sex culture is prevalent. It’s not just in the United States. In any country where many women are looking for casual sex they are going to look for alpha traits disproportionately to beta provider ones. Culturally it will just manifest differently. One can even see this within the U.S. itself. A sexually successful alpha in New York City will have different traits than a sexually successful alpha in a rural town.

In my opinion, based off of traveling to many countries, and experiencing different social lives, this is caused by America having a fixation on hyper masculinity, compared to that of other nations.

Uh, what nations? Can you name one that isn't in northwestern europe?

Almost every nation outside of the US and Europe has a much more rigid and traditionalist sense of masculinity.

Hypergamy towards rich, very tall, or hyper-masculine men is stronger in America, for cultural and economic reasons, that's definitely true, but hypergamy towards facially handsome men exists everywhere, though culture makes it less or more pronounced from country to country.

Women have a general nature that they adhere to in order to survive. However this is really a debate on nature vs nurture.

Women have hypergamous natures in general. So don't get it twisted. But it's heightened in America because of how society treats and glorifies women and vilifies men.

In societies that you've been to they probably don't vilify the man that much and adhere to a certain culture. Therefore it's her nature being diminished and changed by her nurtured culture.

This ultimately proved America is a weak culture in general.

I don't think most of this is US exclusive.

I live in the UK and athletes are still very popular and glamorised, we just like footballers (soccer to you Yanks) instead.

"Sculpted" men in movies will be everywhere because Hollywood exports their media worldwide.

American rap and hip-hop is also popular in the UK, and while I'm unsure if this is true in non-English speaking countries, I'd also bet the lyrical content of other country's hip-hop is not very different to what comes from the US in terms of how it portrays sexual relations etc.

Trump is a unique phenomenon in the West I give you that one.

Hypergamy is not defined as women chasing musclebeasts. Women want the best. Perceptions of best will vary. Clearly, their standards aren't hyperinflated for dick, because they find dick everywhere. It's hard to frame hypergamy in economic terms and get far analytically. It's much more useful as a general rule of thumb: women tend to date up.

I'm curious, OP, where have your travels taken you? I've only been out of the US a handful of times so I wonder what you've observed and where.

As a german I have to just say that americans really do not get how insane their country seems like or just basically is. And not in some kind of "goofy yeeha" way, but if you read those discussions on the internet around various hot topics you can actually feel the psychosis, the desperate attempt to rationalize irrational worldviews.

Let me put it this way: Everybody around me, that I talk to, is just very casually accepting that the system/capitalism is broken in its core and something needs to fundamentally change. But americans just can't give up on this rags-to-riches/"freedom" bullshit and they are going insane over it. I could maybe write a better comment that goes into depth on this, but its really a holistic observation where you learn how much of our self-image is tied into this notion of "achievement". (Although in the context of this sub it should be close to axiomatic). Us other western countries are all "America light" so I think we feel and discuss the same trends but not in this bizarre overdrive. In america it seems that really everybody wants to be the superstar. You have built a social code where the 1% is the only thing worth being and 99% are "losers". Just look at the connotation of words like "average" or "mediocre". Average or mediocre is what everybody is, its almost a tautology. How could you possibly fathom a healthy society built on that?

I skip going into what the way out of this might be, but a crucial point would be to look very nuanced at this desires/needs of humans for recogniction/identity/self-actualisation, and then see how they could be fulfilled without leading to this social darwinistic horror.

Tall, narrow dudes are far from "masculine." A muscular man with a wide/large upper body is far more masculine. They screw around a lot (as well as other pro athletes) because they have the financial means to try and get away with it.

Popularization of rap and hip-hop culture. Men from this scene are hyper masculine. Not because of their race, but because of their emphasis on violence, drugs, domestic violence (Chris brown and Rhianna). These are very aggressive guys.

The president. Now, this one is new so it would be a while before this has any real effect, but having an over the top, aggressive, macho president sets the standard for masculinity much higher.

So women will want "hyper masculine" men because of Trump? Wow. Just wow. I don't think most women watch mainstream news, like CNN, which is obsessed with him.

In other countries, I don't notice glamorization of hyper-masculine figures. Women still want men to make the first move and be somewhat dominant, but like the athletes in other countries look normal. Lionel Messi is 5'7", for example. Or Rafael Nadal is good looking but has a pretty boy look, he isn't hardcore violence.

America is just a more fucked up, violent country in general when compared to its European counterparts.

So overall, I think that the media presence of overly large, masculine, but more importantly violent men raises up the standard of masculinity very high.

You grossly overestimate how much people watch MSM. Sitting around on social media doesn't mean you're looking at Thor pics or some such bullshit.
