Also I LOOOOVE the hidden abusive language. "You'll never find anyone who loves you as much as I do". That's emotional abusive language 101. It's what abusers tell their victims, so that the victims don't leave.

This is a really, really insidious gift. It packages itself up as "high value" because it's jewelry, but it also negs the wife and primes her to believe that the abusive language is true. We are conditioned to believe that abuse is normal. This is a prime example.

ETA: the more I think about this the more mad about it I am! It also frames this as being totally centered on the man. It says nothing about her and her value. Just "I suck at things". Nothing about how she adds value to her life. Just HIM, and how he is giving her this to compensate for his failures. Wow, uh, thanks for that? You're saying you suck and I can't do better? So ROMANTIC.

And ALSO - this jewelry just looks cheap. It's completely thoughtless and styleless. It looks like something a third grader buys for their mom for $10 with the money their grandma gave them for raking her front yard. Ladies - when you buy jewelry for yourselves, do you go with nicely shaped gemstones and pendants, or do you buy heart shaped jewelry? I feel like heart shaped jewelry exists just as something a man can buy his SO because...it's a heart. Romance!!

Soooo I got the exact same necklace from my dad for valentine's day, with a poem about "my daughter" instead of wife. 20 yrs married & I never got a wedding ring. I did get a fake, ugly one around Christmas time from the mall. The displays in middle of the isles, not behind a glass cabinet. He was excited, I wasn't. All I could think of was how I can fake it so he doesn't throw a tantrum.
