Anyone else find certain shows/movies infuriating now that you've found FDS?

I just can't watch Carrie. She's constantly begging Big to be with her 🤮. And I can't stand anyone in that show honestly, every guy in that show is a LVM. And the constant sleeping around. No woman in her thirties would be that reckless. And do you remember Mr. Big took Carrie to that kinda gross and shady restaurant 🤢 on their first date after they slept together, like he was hiding her. That was so sad. Carrie is the ultimate pickmeisha.

Absolutely. Add to that that I started to watch Asian shows in quarantine and, if you know how to pick those (not all are worthy), they offer you very interesting female leads (ambitious, cunning, scheming and ruthless without being portrayed as the villains), almost zero hypersexualized women and, in general, try to make the male lead a match for thee female one (age appropriate, handsome, accomplished, decently dressed) and now most western shows and a Lots of Eastern ones are ruined for me and I won't touch them with a ten feet pole.

Anything that shows a woman's naked body parts.

I used to tell myself "it's just boobs, get over it." But now I know it's a scrote writer, scrote director, scrote producer who made this young actress get naked and simulate sex or rape for their viewing pleasure. It's never about the plot and there is never a good reason for it. It's porn. It's just porn disguised as a regular tv show.

I hated Meredith from the moment I saw her. You love him?! He's a cheater and a total stranger. His wife is right there. Just get on with your job, how do you even have time for this drama as a doctor in a hospital anyway.

i literally can't watch or listen to any mainstream media now music etc. it's all terrible it's subconscious programming i just listen to audiobooks/podcasts and read whenever i get a glimpse of what's on tv or hear songs when i'm in stores it makes me cringe i can't stand it

I used to love SATC when I was growing up but now Carrie and Mr Big are nerve wrecking. I still find it entertaining but see it more as "what not to do with men" lol

I went back to watching documentary style shows and shows about traveling or house renos/flipping. The one thing i do watch is people on YouTube that roast big Ed from 90day fiance/the single life because they call out his NVM behaviors and make fun of his audacity. Lately, another NVM from the show really threw him under the bus and then said he's a gaslighter and even his mom started calling him out as well. It is oddly therapeutic for me. Although, you have to be careful what you tubers you watch as some try to side with the NV behaviors.

I'm also way more sensitive to ads now. If I see an ad that is msyogynisyic (and there's still so many showing the woman like a mommy figure to a LVM husband/bf) i will call it out in the comments and it turns me off from ever buying that product. This morning, i saw an ad for something I was really tempted to buy (and decided not to and sent that money to my debts) and it showed the man child husband trope trying to be funny when the dude acted like he never cut a vegetable or used a knife in his life. What he was doing was basic basic skills that my family had started teaching me around the time I was in kindergarten... this man child had food flying everywhere and didn't even know what a pepper was. I was appalled.

Everyday I feel more and hopeless so I just delve into my work, read and vent on here, and focus on my hobbies.

I’m finding it more enjoyable because I’m interacting and thinking more while I watch. I missed so much that was right in front of my face...and I’m continually educating myself in prep for dating again.

Carrie is the most self involved pick me ever. She constantly dumps on her friends for men and disregards their advice. I used to watch it in my teens as a guilty pleasure. Looking at these adult women just doing what they wanted.

Now, I see it for what it was dick chasing and degrading.

I never watched friends, but I think SATC was a product of its time. It was risqué to have a show following women that owned their sexuality and sexual appetite. Dating and feminism have definitely changed over the past 20 years but I think SATC was a good show for the late nineties /early 00's. But, yeah Carrie was definitely annoying when it came to Mr. Big, even in the movies.

I think I always disliked a lot of movies/shows i watched, and would be very vocal about it, until I started dating a guy and hanging around people who were not on the same page. FDS has helped me rekindle that flame. Theres so much shitty sexist coolgirl porny pickme bullshit. Thinking back to the shows popular when i was growing up that just looked voring and full of sex. That one show american something with girls getting pregnant. Scrubs? I dont even know. Right now i remember watching some movie where the girl is that quirky alt girl who rents a porno to the guys surprise. And i in my very traumatized state of being visibly recoiled as i sat next to my then porn addict ex, and he asked me if that really bothered me so much. He hated watching movies with me by the end of our relationship lol.

The worst one is the hero husband calling the wife at home, telling her to pack a bag, get the kids, leave the house. She starts asking why. He hangs up. omg just pack the bag and go (if your husband is a HVM haha)

I was going to ask what the thoughts were on SatC etc. I got into podcasts looking back at different shows and its nice to revisit it, even if my opinions have changed a lot lol.

Edit: have binged friends a few times and didnt ship Ross and Rachel the last time i watched it. Did watch the Friends reunion then they had the finale episode after and it was like stay on the plane! Just so manipulative.

Gilmore Girls. I still like it a lot but in the final season Sookie gets knocked up by Jackson a third time because he pretended to get a vasectomy and knowingly had unprotected sex with her. He impregnated her without her consent and it was supposed to be... cute?

I'm currently watching Jane The Virgin (S1) for the first time. It's an eyeopener how much religion (Christianity/Catholicism, not sure which this is here) reinforces poor decision-making in women, and how pick-me behaviour could be a by-product of that. All in favour of being a saint and doing "the right thing". Where there's a saint (portrayed by Jane and her grandmother who taught her well), there's always a whore somewhere portrayed by Jane's mother who is hypersexual and irresponsible in choosing sexual partners, getting attached to men who are already taken. And then there's another female villain character, Petra shown as a devious and cheating gold-digger. All this is set in telenovela fashion as a nod to the main characters' obsession with telenovelas. I'm hating it through and through because I grew up watching 2000s romcoms, and I'm finding a lot of the tropes in this show as in these romcoms. But I'm also realizing how I got all these wrong ideas of being a good person stuck in my head. This may not be so bad, maybe I'm getting free therapy right now. 😅 Ohh and also the premise itself on which the show is based...why didn't she just abort?? 🙄
