The detective was at home with his wife and son when officers went to his home at night to inform him of the complaint against him.

He attended a police station outside the Leicestershire force area to be interviewed by other officers and to give samples for analysis.

The allegation caused immense strain in his marriage and he was off work sick for six months with depression and anxiety.

In a victim impact statement, the police officer said he was 'completely stunned' by the allegation and his 'world fell apart'.

He said it was 'touch and go' at one stage if he would return to work, and it affected his relationship with his employers.

The man added: 'I can't explain why it affected me as it did. 'If I hadn't been able to prove my innocence, I'd have lost my liberty.'

'If I hadn't been able to prove my innocence, I'd have lost my liberty.'

The very definition of male privilege under the patriarchy.

Guilty until proven innocent

Wait, is that a thing?

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 90 points91 points92 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For men yes.

[–]Itsnottakenwhat 36 points37 points38 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

He is saying that he was assumed to be guilty and that the burden of proof of his innocence rested on him. Had he not had a way to prove his innocence he would be in jail.

This is in sharp relief with the rights given to his accuser

How is his statement the very definition of male privilege? It is the exact opposite.

How is that?

[–]adulterescent 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because cops, usually men, usually ignore the rights of men, from using the Duluth model arresting male victims of DV to forcing men to prove their innocence.

Yet society is pushing harder and harder for blind belief from any women screaming rape.

This is fucking sickening

[–]Rawrination 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Our society is suicidal, at this point openly so. Either the Men of western civilization stand up and say enough is enough, along with the women who will join them. Or the west finally falls for good and is replaced with barbarism imported, housed, clothed, and fed at great expense from the uncivilized parts of the world.

[–]Drezzzire 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

These spineless, dickless, pussywhipped men won't even admit there's a problem. They openly attack MRA's and think that we're the idiots.

I don't even think there's hope.

Society has become so gynocentric and misandrist that there's only a few logical men (and a few women) scattered throughout that realize the catastrophic metamorphosis that has happened to western culture.

We are imploding and nobody gives two fucks

[–]Rawrination 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is why Trump won. We've got a fighting chance, but just barely. Most of Western Europe is already lost. Eastern Europe remains strong, but who knows how long they can hold out against the Islamc Nuclear Armed Armies of England, France, and Germany?

[–]icandrive1551 points 8 years ago [recovered] (161 children) | Copy Link

Fuck that's horrific. How can women read something like that and not empathize? Imagine yourself having dinner with your family and getting arrested for something you had nothing to do with. And worse, for a crime that will engender hatred and scorn that will separate you from your loved ones and friends. Your career is ruined. That will destroy a persons life forever.

I'm not saying rape isn't hard to overcome but the crime of rape lasts a few minutes. This one keeps going on and on for as long as the liar chooses to keep lying. It's like being raped over and over every day.

[–][deleted] 107 points108 points109 points 8 years ago (65 children) | Copy Link

As some feminists said, if a bunch of men are wrongly accused and have their lives destroyed, that's a price THEY are willing to pay.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (58 children) | Copy Link

Do you really think they represent any real group of people? Or are they just lunatics who happen to identify with feminism?

[–][deleted] 75 points76 points77 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Well, for instance Emily Lindin said it. She's a feminist who works in a magazine (Teen Vogue), she wrote Feminists book, made feminist documentary, etc. Yes she represent a real group of people, and her work is actually being tought in gender study classes in Universities...

[+][deleted] -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

You know way more about feminism than me and I'm a woman.

[–]78stickup 30 points31 points32 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That isn't unusual, at least among MRA's. Many of used to be feminists before we started studying the history of the movement. I'm an anti-feminist precisely because I believe in gender equality.

You should try to educate yourself about feminism and feminists before defending them.

[+][deleted] -8 points-7 points-6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm not defending them. It amazes me how many people in gender politics think it's a binary choice between being a radical feminist and a men's rights activist. I don't like either side.

[–]78stickup 56 points57 points58 points 8 years ago* (29 children) | Copy Link

Do you really think they represent any real group of people?

In Canada, feminists are trying to make it more difficult for men accused of rape to introduce exculpatory evidence like text messages and emails. The bill (C-51) was introduced after media personality Jian Ghomeshi was proved innocent of rape through text messages and emails revealing that his accusers were conspiring to frame him. The bill will most likely pass.

Feminists are also trying to make "enthusiastic consent" the law. It will literally make every man a rapist, since it requires that he obtain "explicit verbal permission" for every stage of a sexual encounter (no one has sex that way). Feminists make puritans and Islamic extremists look like wild sexual libertines.

Make no mistake, the feminist movement has gone completely off the rails -- and they have an enormous amount of power.

[–]Rawrination 18 points19 points20 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Feminism isn't off the rails. Its right on target. It has always been a weapon for the destruction of western civilization. In the end the western men will have to say enough is enough, or islamic men will come in and put women in literal chains. This age of pussy power and destruction of everything men are involved with is the literal suicide of a civilization and will not end well for the feminists.

[–]Aivias 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Early feminist campaigns were attempting to shut down smoking clubs, golf clubs, speakeasys and pretty much anywhere else that men would gather away from the eyes of their wives.

Is it not obvious that there is such a problem with the toxic 'me, me, me' and 'more, more, more' behaviour from women that men would literally rather be anywhere else than with someone they married (presumably) because they loved them?

[–]adulterescent -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The middle ages in the west was a literal vagina cult derived form worship of the virgin Mary. There was no patriarchy. It was a matriarchy. Women were treated like saints and given massive privilege.

Then the enlightenment freed men from the matriarchy and gave us equality between the sexes. To the privileged women equality felt like oppression.

Feminism is a reaction AGAINST equality that the enlightenment achieved. Feminism is a traditional conservative movement to restore the vagina cult.

[–]nocivo 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Don’t worry. The response will be man go full monks and when sex is out of the equation woman will have nothing to give. They will essentially be useless and lose all the respect we have for them. Kill the society and every woman job is out of the table. Lets be real if we go every man for most of the woman will die.

[–]Aivias 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women literally see their vaginas as a prize to be won. I make a point to call out the women in my life when they talk about how Mr doesnt do so-and-so and how they want to be treated X way by asking what, exactly, do you do for him that makes you worthy of the worship you desire?

They genuinely think that allowing access to vagina (something with zero intrinsic value when a bunch of dudes have been there before) is all they must do to fulfill their obligations to a relationship.

[–]goodbeertimes 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Feminists make puritans and Islamic extremists look like wild sexual libertines.

In Canada, feminists are trying to make it more difficult for men accused of rape to introduce exculpatory evidence like text messages and emails. The bill (C-51)

As far as I can tell, the bill is only closing a loophole of the current law.

The current law being that you can't use prior sexual history, unrelated to sexual act for which consent is disputed (including further sexual acts with the accused), to suggest that the accuser was more likely to consent or to doubt the claim of the accuser -- such as suggesting they are a slut so "of course they wanted it, despite what the accuser claims". You may disagree with the current law (rightfully, I think, at minimum further sexual acts with the accused ought to be evidence) that it is prejudicial against the accused, but as far as I can tell C-51 only closes a loophole that allowed you to make the same argument with regard to sexts.

It does bother me that this comes so soon after the Ghomeshi case, but in that case I think the texts and stuff were relevant to the act at hand so they would have been allowed regardless.

[+]genuinely_insincere -14 points-13 points-12 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I actually would prefer open explicit consent. I do prefer sex that way.

[–]78stickup 20 points21 points22 points 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh yeah? Well, make sure to ask her every time you escalate a sexual encounter ("can I touch your boobs? Can I touch your nipples? Can I lick your nipples? can I keep thrusting?" etc.) otherwise -- it's rape.

Edit: just to be clear -- the feminist "council" hasn't yet determined how often a man should ask for permission. This is a big problem. Is it every ten seconds? Twenty seconds? Etc.

And what about the deaf or blind? Needless to say this raises all sorts of new issues, which feminists should guide us through.

Or we tell them to fuck off.

[–]goodbeertimes -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And what about the deaf or blind?

Oh boy! I am so loving you.

I never had to go through this consent ritual but if I imagine that I have to do so, Sir. John down there would go limp on the second consent. It would be a partial sex and if she didn't like a partial rape. Don't know how would that work out.

[–]78stickup 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As funny as it seems, it's also profoundly creepy.

Everyone knows that no one has sex like feminists demand: Can I do X? Can I do Y?

So what is left?

The only thing left is that every single man (and woman, for that matter) is a rapist. Not even your lovely old grandmother has sex in the way feminists demand.

So yeah it's really creepy. It's hard not to come to the conclusion that a certain faction of man-hating feminists want every man to be de facto "guilty." It reminds of the "Damocles sword":

Cicero asks, "Does not Dionysius seem to have made it sufficiently clear that there can be nothing happy for the person over whom some fear always looms?"

Every man will walk around with a sword over his head.

[–]goodbeertimes 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So you want to impose what you like in sex on the rest of humanity?

[+][deleted] -19 points-18 points-17 points 8 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

So if they really had that much power, wouldn't the laws already be passed? You say they're still 'trying' to do these things.

[–]78stickup 15 points16 points17 points 8 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

I didn't say they were all powerful. Just powerful. And yes the bill in Canada will likely be passed.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

So a majority of the legislators, if the bill was passed, would agree with it, or are just victims of the feminists?

[–]78stickup 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Neither. They are co-conspirators in absurdity.

[–]Aivias 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Politicians capitulate to the desires of feminists because its political suicide not to. Women make up the majority of the electorate in pretty much every single developed nation on the planet. Take that along with their herd mentality where saying bad things about one woman is construed as an attack on all women and youre done if you dont just wilt and nod along with what they say like a battered husband.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Their herd mentality? 'Their' as in a specific group of women or all women? Because it sounds like you're doing the very thing you speak of and referring to the whole 'herd'.

[–]adulterescent 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Women don't act in a direct manner they act through proxies. This is because women are risk adverse and so use proxies to insulate themselves against blowback. Women use male legislators who have been brainwashed by tradcon chivalry on the right and feminism on the left to obey women and pass these laws.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

How do you explain abortion laws?

[–]DevilishRogue 26 points27 points28 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

are they just lunatics who happen to identify with feminism?

There are an awful lot of them holding influential positions within the movement that are neither expelled nor excoriated by their fellows.

[+][deleted] -7 points-6 points-5 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I would say feminism is a fringe movement in the sense you're talking about. I mean I'm not going around worrying about who within the KKK is more moderate. Not that feminism is evil but radical feminism is just plain retarded. And this is coming from a woman who usually doesn't have time to worry about gender politics.

[–]Tedesche 15 points16 points17 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

The Obama administrationβ€”at the behest of feminist organizations and then lauded for it by most feministsβ€”wrote the OCR letter that stripped college students accused of sexual assault of their due process protections in Title IX investigations. This is still being hailed as a good move by mainstream feminists, and they are livid DeVos rescinded those regulations.

Moreover, the whole strategy of feminists today on the topic of sexual assault is to create avenues by which accusers can bypass the criminal justice system. They're doing this out of frustration, because sexual assault is very hard to prove in court, due to the frequent lack of evidence and witnesses. The next best thing is ruining their accuseds' reputations and careers ("social justice"). It's an appeal to mob rule. This is all very mainstream.

Then there's the whole "toxic masculinity" craze. Feminists are using this term to blame all sorts of societal ills, from rape to mass shootings, on men. They defend it as a move to "help" men by freeing them of the effects of patriarchy on their gender, but if you look at the rhetoric surrounding it, it becomes patently clear this isn't about helping men, but criticizing them for the harm women suffer from some men in society. It's just another form of labeling men the enemy in a "polite" way, which feminism has been doing since it's inception. Feminists point to nuggets of truth within their rhetoric (e.g. the traditional male gender role discourages men from complaining about domestic violence, rape, depression, etc), but this is all really just a cloak for emotion-driven misandry.

I don't believe feminists are bad people though; I think they sincerely believe their own bullshit. If you understand how the psychological defense of rationalization works, then you should understand how this is entirely plausible. We all do this to a certain extentβ€”convince ourselves that our actions and opinions, which are really based more on feelings than thought, stem from a considered, logical thought process. Women have plenty of cause to be angry about their treatment in society, both past and present, but feminists are steeped in those feelings, and thus risk being biased by them.

The same goes for MRAs, of course. The problem is that feminism is a huge movement at this point, and it has gone largely unchallenged as the sole creator of modern narratives about gender. That lack of criticism creates false confidence in the validity of feminist ideasβ€”among both feminists and mainstream society. The reason I support the MRM isn't because I think it will be any better than feminismβ€”I'm certain it won't be, in fact; I support it, because I think feminism needs an equally influential counter-movement to keep it in check.

TL/DR: Mainstream feminism is absolutely biased against men (misandrist), and the MRM aims to balance the scales, by giving men a voice in the gender debate.

Women have plenty of cause to be angry about their treatment in society, both past and present

Ah no not really. Women enjoyed massive privilege for most of human history, compared to men.

[–]DevilishRogue 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Whilst you are 100% correct, that doesn't mean that they didn't also have cause to be angry too. Being treated better than men is a pretty low bar considering how poorly men have been treated throughout most of history after all.

[–]Tedesche -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No, they didn't. It's well documented how they were mistreated in many different societies around the globe, for many hundreds of years. That there are perks that went along with that treatment, as well as burdens men bore that went along with the perks they had, does not mean women had it better than men. It means the picture is more complicated that "men had it better than women," which is the feminist narrative.

[–]adulterescent -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's well documented how they were mistreated in many different societies around the globe, for many hundreds of years.

Garbage. The entire middle ages in the west was a matriarchy complete with vagina worship.

[–]Greg_W_Allan 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminists have been doing the long march for decades and are well established in our institutions. It's the ones you can't see who are the problem.

He said "some" feminists, they represent themselves but theyre still feminists

[–]armaadi 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I don't think they represent feminism, but I don't see feminists jumping over themselves to condemn these people, either. There if very little, if any, self policing of the feminist movements. I routinely see comments here that get downvoted for using too broad a brush or using outright hostile language. I rarely, if ever see that from the feminist side. If you call a radfem out, you get, "Well, they aren't real feminists..." Ok, but no one condemns them, and it seems those radfems get at least some semblance of support from feminists.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Name me any radical community that polices itself instead of believing its ideas are completely righteous.

[–]armaadi 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I don't know of any. Are you saying feminism is a radical group? I was agreeing with you that radfems don't represent feminists or any real group of people, but I also said that feminists in particular don't really condemn radfems based on what I've seen and read. If you hold them to the condemnation, at best they'll say "they aren't real feminists" which is just a No True Scotsman fallacy.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Well if they embrace radical views, are they a radical group?

[–]armaadi 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yes? Are we disagreeing on anything?

If feminists aren't speaking out against these people, then sure. I don't know if they are. But regarding your no true Scotsman thing, they could represent one town in Scotland that no one really likes. And you'd be committing another kind of logical fallacy in assuming they represent everyone in Scotland.

Fuck that's horrific. How can women read something like that and not empathize?

One of the biggest cons going is that women are the ones with empathy

[–]Lallo-the-Long 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Yep, pretty much everyone has to develop empathy in their own ways. It's never an inherent part of anyone.

[–]Rawrination 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago* (12 children) | Copy Link

Also from a strictly evolutionary angle. Women have to adapt and submit to whomever is in power to survive. Which is why they have 0 empathy and loyalty to the civilization as a whole, as a group. There will always be exceptions to the rule, but trying to run a society in complete contempt for the ways we are biologically put together will not work for long.

[–]Tedesche -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

You don't understand what empathy is then. Empathy =/= Compassion. That's sympathy. Empathy = Understanding. Understanding is neutral with regard to support. A psychopath who manipulates those around them has empathyβ€”they have to in order to manipulate them. Empathy is simply understanding what makes another person act the way they do; it's not about aligning yourself with them.

[–]Aivias 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ive said a few times in the past that women generally cannot understand the ideas of honour, duty and loyalty (to a country). They are pretty much alien concepts to them. Honour is something a man sticks to for his woman, duty is what a man does for his woman, loyalty is from a man to his woman. Thats how they see these things.

The women of today have never had any need to sympathise/empathise with the life of men, why would they? They are told from birth pretty much that men are bad, they rule the world, they stop little girls from being princesses, they only want one thing. Its indoctrination that has caused women to become so detached from the reality of being male and how its not a fucking pussy party with shit loads of money blow all over. Its a grind, like everyone elses life.

[–]Tedesche 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

LOL, grow the fuck up, man. Reality ain't that bad a place to live.

[–]adulterescent -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

Nope. Empathy means you can feel what other people feel. If you see someone stub their toe you might say 'ouch'. There are special mirror neurons in your brain that process information about others around you and recreate the emotions and feelings those people feel, but in your own brain.

When you can feel someone's pain it makes you feel pain and you want to stop that pain and so you try to help the other person to stop their pain in order to stop your pain.

A psychopath has no empathy. He literally doesn't feel pain when he sees someone else in pain. This means he can hurt others without emotional blowback. He might choose not to hurt others. Psychopath doesn't mean you wish to hurt others. It just means you can do so without the problems other people experience. And since hurting others is a good way to get ahead, lacking the controls that other people have, psychopaths usually end up hurting others one way or another.

A psychopath is not inherently evil or manipulative. He doesn't enjoy hurting others. He just cant feel your pain as his own. Then, subject to the same desires and temptations that others feel, he may act on them in such a way that hurts others. A normal person will still desire to hurt another to get ahead, but often chooses not to simply to avoid the empathic pain he will experience.

Of course many normal people learn to supress their normal empathy. And there are also mental processes that supress empathy for the out group or strangers and foreigners.

PS: Women seem to have less empathy for strangers, or other races or genders. They have far greater in group preference than men do regarding their race their nation and their gender. They also lack any empathy for any male other than their own sons.

I was going to give you a more thoughtful reply, but this last paragraph demonstrates your understanding of psychology is so limited and/or subject bias that I doubt any fruitful discussion would come of it. It was a guy who was comparing what's happening in American ghettos with lots of single mother households to what's happened in Africa when poachers killed off a large majority of the adult elephant bulls for ivory, it was kinda interesting but I don't know how well researched it was, it was just one of those things I had running on the 2nd screen while doing stuff on the other.

Fuck that's horrific. How can women read something like that and not empathize

Some of them are depraved and have deep seeded emotional issues. My guess is a lot of them have daddy issues. They bought in hook line and sinker that all men are these aggressive pervasive sexual deviants. Then many of them further ingrained their thoughts by indoctrination at their universities, listening to dribble from extremist nut cases in groups who basically convince them that they are always a target from these vial men who will do anything and everything to get their pussy.

They have figured out how to dehumanize men the same way that many other groups have been dehumanized over the years. That takes away the empathy. Men are now nothing more than objects to their oppression. They can scapegoat all of their life problems by making it men's fault. Then when when someone does get falsely accused they will probably justify it by saying something like, "well he probably deserved it anyway."

The only ones who will get empathy is if any of them who have higher IQ wake up one day and realize they are to blame for their own issues. Or enough of this will happen to their own family members. At some point some of these feminists will have a son who will possibly be falsely accused and will then realize maybe the who idea of bitches like Lindin are not so cool after all.

Uhm... The crime of rape lasts an amount of time but the repercussions last a lot longer than a few minutes. The memories can be like being raped over and over every day with no take backs. The fear that it could happen again, even with a trusted loved one, is still there too as are the flashbacks and the memories. Source: I've been raped.

I don't disagree with the jist of what your saying, this women and what she did is horrific. I'd also be pedantic and suggest that this officer won't get over things just because she stopped lying. It's likely that he'll be fearful for a long time afterwards that someone else could make a false allegations against him. That would be a huge blow to anyone's confidence I'd imagine and lead to a major amount of fear in day to day life.

[+]icandrive1551 points 8 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

That's why I acknowledged that rape is hard to overcome right there in my post.

And when trying to overcome the crime, women get all kinds of love and support from the community. Men accused of rape get the polar opposite. Even if the charge is proved to be fraudulent the world shrugs its shoulders and says "oh well, gotta break a few eggs, you know".

[–]coops678 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As I pointed out, my specific issue is with the second part of that sentence "but the crime of rape lasts a few minutes". The rest of your comment doesn't match the sentiment of your reply in regards to difficulties in overcoming rape. Tagging it before the word "but" makes it come across glibly.

I agree with the second part of your next paragraph in reply even if it does paint broad brush strokes. Vindicating an individual of the crime of rape/harrassment does not necessarily draw a line under the issue. Reputational damage and damage to the individual often supercede the presumable relief of being proven not guilty. I personally welcome the gradual but imminent changes to the law that allow false accusers to be imprisoned and hope that the prison sentences dished out continue to grow in length. To echo your sentiment, Emily Lindin's recent comments on false accusations rile me up in particular:

"The benefit of all of us getting to finally tell the truth + the impact on victims FAR outweigh the loss of any one man’s reputation... If some innocent men’s reputations have to take a hit in the process of undoing the patriarchy, that is a price I am absolutely willing to pay."

I do, however, disagree to an extent with your reply about "women get all kinds of love and support from the community". In that regard I believe that support is very much arguably there. Just look at the amount of resources available in regards to counselling, therapy, and medical resources. In the UK where I'm based these are all accessible privately or for free through public funding. I hope that the beginnings to male support continue to grow likewise. To suggest that women get all kinds of love from the community would again be erroneous as it does not legitimise the instances where this is not the case. For example, where an individual is disowned by their family, not believed, or convinced that they were not infact raped etc. etc.

In reality I guess that the point I'm trying to get across is that it's not as black and white as your comments suggest. Personally I aim for as true an equality as can be achieved, thus my interest in MGTOW etc. I'd like for support to be available to both sexes in equal amounts following on from rape. I'd also like tougher sentences to be passed on individuals who falsely accuse people of crimes. I also hope that support options be established for individuals falsely accused of crimes such as this one too.

Gender differences in automatic in-group bias: why do women like women more than men like men?

Women simply have greater in group bias than men. This is obvious and self evident as women are naturally conservative on average while men gain more from risk taking.

Empathy for strangers used to be risky during our evolutionary development and only men could afford such empathy.

Women, on average, have less empathy for 'outgroups' than men. That is simple scientific fact. Whether its gender, or race, or simply a stranger, men are more accepting and welcoming than women.

[–]Efreshwater5 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (31 children) | Copy Link

Just like any group people identify with, there are good elements and bad. People with good intentions, people with bad.

I recommend finding a doc called the Red Pill, if you really are interested in some of the more "legitimate" aspects of the MRA movement, but overall I'd say it's about the same thing that feminism is about, exposing discrepancies in the way one gender is treated vs another... just from the male perspective... whether it be professionally, personally, judicially, etc.

[+][deleted] -6 points-5 points-4 points 8 years ago (28 children) | Copy Link

The red pill is more like male supremacy with plenty of the aforementioned complaining about not getting laid. I don't doubt there are legitimate male rights activists. Now the irony of the red pill would be blaming feminism for how things are for men, but making women individually responsible for how they conduct themselves. As in a man is a helpless incel, but a woman is an evil bitch shamelessly riding the cock carousel.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points-3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My final thought on this is that the red pillers and radical feminists deserve one another, because they're all a bunch of whiny fuckers who want to sit around complaining about how their group has it the worst, rather than take the initiative to figure out how to go on with their lives, be happy and attract partners within the current system. There are things I don't like about our society, plenty of them. Saying those things are the fault of one gender or group is defeatist and counterproductive.

[–]deegan79 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

It’s entirely possible there is just as much an empathy gap in males in the same age range, but there is a significant difference between the two groups- a man cannot utterly destroy a woman’s ability to support themselves and their dependents with a false accusation, while the reverse happens regularly (not everyday mind you, but often enough that it’s not hard to find evidence of it with a little research).

[+][deleted] -7 points-6 points-5 points 8 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

A man can destroy a woman's ability to support herself through financial abuse or killing her, both of which happen every day. All of it is wrong.

[–]deegan79 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Those are actions, not words. There is no string of words, to my knowledge, that a man can say to law enforcement that will destroy a woman’s future as quickly and thoroughly as when a woman calls law enforcement and says β€œSo-and-so raped me”.

Even the woman in this news article (unless I’ve misread the article) has only been sentenced to 2 years in jail, which usually translates to roughly 3-6 months behind bars before being paroled for good behavior. Had this police detective not been able to clear his name, he would likely have been sentenced to anywhere between 8 years and a life sentence ( per the Crown Prosecution Services Rape and Sexual Offenses guidelines, Chapter 19- Sentencing). His wife would have left him, taking everything. Assuming British prison culture is similar to that of the US, he could expect to be beaten, tortured, and raped by his fellow inmates, not just for being a convicted rapist, but a former cop as well. And once he was out (assuming he ever got out), it’s unlikely he’d ever find work again.

Even now, with his name having been cleared, and media trumpeting that he didn’t do anything (which rarely happens for those men that are found innocent at trial), he’s still gonna have people who whisper behind his back, β€œLook, it’s that cop who was accused of rape.” Still think a man can destroy a woman’s life, with words, mind you, as badly as the woman in this article tried to do to this police detective?

Edit: added a word.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But no, things shouldn't be that way. I mentally live in a world where shit like this doesn't happen. What would I say if I were to falsely accuse someone of rape? I can't even imagine. Wouldn't they want proof? It's all beyond me but someone evil enough, with that kind of impunity, could definitely abuse the current rape laws. I want to say it doesn't happen all the time but I don't know.

[–]deegan79 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree, it shouldn’t be this way. Sadly, it is, and sadly, there are women evil enough to pull these stunts. I wish this weren’t true, but articles like this are hard to ignore.

A man can destroy a woman's ability to support herself through financial abuse

How? Is he going to tie her up in the back of his house to stop her going to get a job?

Women need to take personal responsibility for their shitty choices in men. Literally no-one claims men dont suck as well. If you are in an abusive relationship just fucking leave, no excuses needed just fucking do it.

I say this as someone whos sister was beaten by a boyfriend multiple times (without any of my family telling me) and would go back every single time. There will always come a point in situations like that where if you keep going back, you deserve those beatings.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Yes controlling ones partner through money is fairly common, is an actual thing, and while the people who it happens to could handle things better, we can still be aware that it happens and have compassion for them. The compassion you guys claim women my age don't have. Well what do you know, I guess some of us do.

[–]Aivias 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Stop rescuing people of their personal responsibilities.

If you cant work up the courage to leave your abusive partner after he kicks your head in 20 times then theres only so many times I can say "Sorry that happened, you should leave" before I realise Id have an easier time telling a house to build itself.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Abuse is systematically designed to chip away at your agency. Abusers test the waters and slowly ramp things up over time, male or female. That's when people should get out. But saying they should all just 'be responsible' first of all will never happen, and second of all doesn't address the things that make people mentally weak. Like Johnny Depp should have just used his 'personal responsibility' and not gotten married to batshit crazy Amber Heard, but he still didn't deserve to be treated badly by her.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What really stands out to me about this in the end is that you're so easily willing to flat-out ridicule the idea of financial abuse, but I bet you'd flip your shit if I expressed the same incredulity about men being falsely accused of rape. Let's try it out:

How is a woman going to falsely accuse a man of rape? Fake a DNA sample? If she does that then it's his fault for being involved with a crazy chick in the first place.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[+]icandrive1551 points 8 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

You are right. I should have said "how can a woman" rather than "women"

I'm referencing the few, but vocal, women who say they're willing to wrongly accuse a few men to overcome patriarchy. It would be easier to separate the two if the wacky ones were universally shouted down when they say crazy stuff like that. But generally their position is considered a valid, if somewhat radical, version of what the feminist groups want.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have spend $10k because I filed for custody. Three days after I filed, my ex started claiming abuse and attacks. Even the cops didn't believe her, but the DA decided that I must have harassed her. So far the family court has sided with her, even though she is a previous felon and is facing another felony charge. The court was so concerned about my "DV" history (which there is none, but this charge of harassment).

After $10K I'm in the final stages of them dropping the charge, but my legal fees are literally 10 times of hers, because she used the State to beat me up and run up my legal fees.

All so I can have my daughter and get her away from an abusive woman.

Nope, because it is a criminal charge, even when it gets dropped, I can’t sue. Besides she has no money, so she’d never be able to pay.

On one hand it's horrific, on the other hand when the police get accused there's more chance that things will start changing.

Keep accusing everyone and eventually you'll accuse somebody that can get shit done.

[–]tbl44 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Keep accusing everyone

That is a horrible, horrible attitude that will negatively impact both innocent people and actual victims. If you just accuse everyone you'll ruin the lives of good officers like the one in this article. And over time as unnecessary accusations are unfounded, all accusations will start to seem less credible, making the stories of real victims less likely to be taken seriously or at least investigated to the extent that they should be. The fact that you have such little regard for the collateral damage that approach would cause is extremely disturbing.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Keep accusing everyone and eventually

You need to read the entire sentence to get the message, the first 3 words isn't enough.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I understand it. You're describing the anticipated outcome of a process, not advocating for that process to take place. Not sure why some people on the internet are so retarded and/or strive to misinterpret people in order to start arguments.

[–]Smallzfry 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

So you're saying it doesn't matter which innocents have their lives destroyed as long as it catches the attention of someone higher up? That really doesn't strike me as right at all.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

That's not what I'm saying at all.

Okay let me re-write this in I guess simpler language, maybe English isn't your first.

[If they] keep accusing (continue to accuse) everyone (people at random) and eventually you'll [they will] accuse somebody that can get shit done. (Eventually somebody will be accused that can make big changes because of their position.)

[–]Smallzfry 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I don't know if you've noticed this, but we currently have senators being accused of sexual assault. If they can't make any changes, then I'm not sure who can.

It's still not a good approach. Anyone who's willing to sacrifice the innocent for their cause really needs to re-think how they're approaching it. "The end justifies the means" is no justification at all, just an excuse for terrible behavior in the name of an ideal.

Honestly, I feel like you're just here to troll and argue at this point, and it's clear you won't listen to anything we say.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

It doesn't really seem like you're talking to me, you're arguing against points I've never made.

It's still not a good approach. Anyone who's willing to sacrifice the innocent for their cause really needs to re-think how they're approaching it. "The end justifies the means" is no justification at all, just an excuse for terrible behavior in the name of an ideal.

Where did I say anything about sacrificing anyone? Where did I say anything about it being an "approach"?

All you're doing is making things up and then arguing against them. You're welcome to do that, but don't attribute them to me, that's called putting words in someone's mouth.

It's still not a good approach.

I am not nor have I ever stated that this is a good or bad approach. In fact it's not even an approach, it's just reality, a lot of the time it takes somebody in power to get mud on their boots before they start looking at a problem more seriously.

It's not even people in power actually, it's a basic human condition to not usually bother with something until it gets really serious.

In case you missed it the first time, what you're saying, I never said. Don't attribute your opinions to me. If you want to have a conversation with yourself, then reply to yourself.

[–]Smallzfry -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link

Keep accusing everyone and eventually you'll accuse somebody that can get shit done

Here's your full statement

Keep accusing everyone...

And here's the part we're discussing. That sounds a lot like it includes innocents. I don't know if you've been paying attention on this sub, but there are a lot of innocent guys who get accused of rape or sexual harassment or some other bullshit and they pay the price. Accusing everyone means you're accusing innocents.

Where did I say anything about it being an "approach"?

From Merriam-Webster's dictionary: approach (noun): the taking of preliminary steps toward a particular purpose

You don't have to use the word "approach" for what you're suggesting to be an "approach" to the situation at hand. Any kind of solution idea is an approach to the problem, regardless of what you want to call it.

I am not nor have I ever stated that this is a good or bad approach.

Then why the fuck are you still arguing for it? As I said before, we currently have senators who have been accused of rape or sexual harassment. Do the names "Al Franken" or "Roy Moore" ring any bells? Why don't you go through this list here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_federal_political_sex_scandals_in_the_United_States#2010%E2%80%932017.

I don't know what your definition of "really serious" is, but I'd say it's gotten serious. When we have people in power who are accused of rape (and some of them probably actually did it!), we really need to take a look at what's going on. We're in the middle of a rash of accusations of sexual harassment in the entertainment industry, and half the country cares about their favorite actors more than their state politics. Hell, even the president is mocked for some of his sexually derogatory language. I'd say that we've reached as far up as possible, so I don't know what you want.

Edited for clarity.

[–]Ymoh- 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think you misunderstood his comment’s point of view.

What he is saying is that so long as false accusations keep happening, and they will, the more likely it is for shit to get really serious about repercussions regarding false accusations.

He is not encouraging accusations, nor his he wishing for innocent lives to be destroyed. He is just shedding light on the inevitable path that this β€œfalse accusation pattern” will lead to. He is, as we all are, wishing for this inevitable end to happen sooner rather than later.

Keep accusing everyone...

No, the "full statement" is the complete sentence.

Taking 3 words out of context and making up your own ideas about what I said is just outright lying. You are lying about my statements and then arguing against your own lies.

  1. She is a hooker.

  2. She made this accusation as she was being arrested, and as she was shouting racist insults at the officers arresting her.

  3. Later states she made it up, but then would not sign a statement one way or the other that she was raped, or she made it up.

So what do they do? Automatically believe the woman (hooker) as she says something between hurling racist remarks at officers, as she is being arrested, over the man (police officer)? Turn the guy's life upside down where he almost loses everything, his family, his job, probably his life would have been next. I bet that guy though about ending it, I know I would have in that situation.

While being restrained, she hurled racist abuse at a Sikh woman officer and a white male officer.

She then shouted out the untrue rape claim naming the detective - who was not present - as having raped her the previous night at the hotel.

Khan later said at the police station: 'I made it up, there, I made it up.'

However, she would not make a statement nor sign an officer's notebook confirming that her claim was untrue.

The judge said the force had no alternative but to investigate the claim, especially when the defendant was again spoken to and denied fabricating the rape allegation, saying she was just 'being sarcastic'.

Khan, of Blackfriars Road, Salford, Manchester, but formerly of Leicester, also admitted two counts of racial harassment towards two arresting police officers, by making vile and insulting racist comments.

There were no charges in relation to her having assaulted anyone at the hotel.

The court heard that Khan had two previous convictions for incidents of racially abusing police officers.

The defendant, who has formerly been a project worker helping ex-offenders in Birmingham and has been employed by Women's Aid in Manchester, sobbed in the dock while her barrister, Dharmendra Toor, gave evidence in her defence.

Mr Toor said: 'She's led a traumatic life. She's utterly remorseful.'

Believe a person automatically based on their gender, doesn't matter if your character is shit.

[–][deleted] 36 points37 points38 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’m so glad she didn’t get away with spewing racist insults at the officers, including the European one. So, a β€œtraumatic life” is an excuse to be a racist liar? Cool! πŸ˜‚

[–]NebulousASK 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It doesn't look like anyone believed her automatically. It looks like they have a process in place that if an accusation is made, and not formally retracted, they have to investigate.

That's actually a good policy, but such investigations should be done in confidence: no publicity and all names kept confidential until the investigation determines there's reason to go to trial. That would strike a balance of both taking accusations seriously and not ruining the life of the accused.

[–]AellaGirl 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with all of that, but using her hooker status as proof that she's untrustworthy really makes me feel weird. I was a sex worker for five years and reading your words made me feel like you would think I have shitty character just because of my job.

[–]Ymoh- 23 points24 points25 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Rawrination 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Although I have friends who are sex workers, and have met plenty of decent honest wonderful people who are, throughout history they have been less to be trusted. A sex worker makes money by convincing you they are attracted to you, or that you are attracted to them enough to give them money. Then they fulfill some fantasy and make money while you leave with a smile on your face if all goes well. They should be thought of as actors, and like actors as potentially skilled and regular liars.

False rape claims should hold the same punishment as rape, including registering as a sex offender.

[–]Ymoh- 56 points57 points58 points 8 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Agree. But only if the claim is proven to be false.

Failure to prove an aggression took place (as it often happens) should not be considered a false accusation or we risk to reverse the scenario and create a situation in which people who have actually been assaulted are afraid to report for fear of consequences.

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points28 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Agreed, but with that being said there also needs to be a little more anonymity with these cases. Far too often is the mans name painted all over the place with nothing but accusations, which basically makes him guilty from the start regardless of outcome.

[–]Ymoh- 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. Considering the social rejection to sexual misconduct, anonymity should be enforced to protect the alleged offenders from the wrath of public opinion courts.

[–]Throwawayingaccount -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[+]Alarid -10 points-9 points-8 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure about that. Anonymity protects the victim, but provides some concerning benefits for the perpetrators.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

How so?

[+]Alarid -9 points-8 points-7 points 8 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

If the accused really is the aggresor in a violent crime, it's more beneficial that people know who they are. If we create a layer of anonymity for the accused (depending on the level of anonymity), they could cause more damage on an unaware society. If they are genuinely innocent, it sucks but it risks harm to hide them from the spotlight. And it's not all bad, as they gain exposure which could help strengthen the case with more evidence brought forward from those who only know them by name or by appearance.

For the potential victim it does a number of useful things, like protect them from backlash and attacks from supporters of the accused. It's trickier if they are found to be dishonest, because you do not want to put them in undue danger just for being dishonest, and it's difficult to balance that with protecting others from their unbalanced behavior.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How would someone who is under arrest and on trial for a crime, cause more harm to society just because people don't know who they are? Your argument doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. You're completely fine with ruining someones reputation, regardless of if they're actually innocent or not, just to save some people from a hypothetical situation of them somehow receiving harm from a person just because their name and face aren't plastered over newspapers and billboards for a crime they may or may not have committed?

[–]Rawrination 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Fuck no. Innocent until proven guilty. I've seen too many good men have their lives destroyed because of your thinking and society's suicidal tendency to act that way.

If a man is genuinely innocent it doesn't suck. IT RUINS HIS LIFE.

Attempted murder should be the charge a person gets for an intentionally false rape claim. IT DESTROYS LIVES.

[–]adulterescent 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

society's suicidal tendency to act that way

Its called chivalry and was invented by the rightwing tradcons. Ironic that.

[–]Ted8367 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If the accused really is the aggresor in a violent crime,

And if the accused really isn't? You're assuming the outcome of the trial before it has happened.

it's more beneficial that people know who they are.

If the accuser made an accusation that turned out to be untrue, then it would certainly be beneficial that people know who they are. They could take precautions around that person in future, for instance.

This is an argument for neither party being anonymous.

[–]Ymoh- 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If the accused really is the aggresor in a violent crime

That can only be determined after the trial. Up until the veredict happens, anonymity for this type of accusation should be maintained.

If we create a layer of anonymity for the accused

In a society that punishes a man for the simple fact of being accused, every layer of anonymity should exist.

If they are genuinely innocent, it sucks but it risks harm to hide them from the spotlight

It β€œsucks”??? There was a feminist moron that one day wrote the same bullshit.

β€œYeah it sucks that a man might lose his job and his wife might divorce him and his children bullied because their father is a rapist”.

Not her exact words, but apparently having your life ruined simply ”sucks”.

To everyone who thinks like this I say: I hope one day it happens to you, while you are innocent. So you really know how much it β€œsucks”.

because you do not want to put them in undue danger just for being dishonest

So it is ok to put accused people in undue danger for maybe nothing... but not ok to put false accusers in undue danger even after it has been proven they ruined a person’s life with their lies.

Your bias is showing really, really hard here.

[–]Ymoh- 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What I am saying is that a false accusation needs to be proven false.

In an accusation of rape it often happens that the alleged rapist cannot be convicted because it cannot be proven that the sex even happened. Sometimes it can’t be proven that the sex was not consensual. Those are not cases of proven false accusations. Those are cases of inability to prove guilt of the accused.

They are different things.

If we make it so that any person unable to prove they were raped is in turn charged with whatever... we create a scenario where real victims could be afraid to come forward, and that is definitely not the way.

[–]whenrudyardbegan 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What

[+]Hypertroph -8 points-7 points-6 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

False rape claims are effectively perjury and/or filing a false report. There is no need to come up with eye-for-an-eye punishments here. Just enforce the laws already in place.

[–]Arby01 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

False rape claims are effectively perjury and/or filing a false report.

While that's true, the effects of this particular form of perjury and false report far exceed those of other forms. Some sort of alteration does seem to be in order - it might simply be not publishing the names of the accused until post trial or something, it might not be punishment, but something.

[–]Hypertroph 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Some alteration is in order, which would be the presumption of innocence.

If rape was handled like any other criminal act, the system would work. Accused are innocent until proven guilty, and false accusers would be punished under perjury laws. We only have a problem now because the accused are presumed guilty, and false accusations are rarely punished. Enforce the current system appropriately, and things work properly.
