My ExW and I have a cordial relationship for the kids, it works generally well. They’re both late teen boys and very independent so require little in the way of coparenting. I’m only a yr out from the end of child support and have started to see the signs of an incoming storm. She will be financially devastated when it ends, not having the ability to cover her costs on her job alone. Both kids won’t be going to college, instead they’re opting for professional internships for tech companies (I’m very happy about this for many reasons ). I’ve suggested they pay rent but that’s not going to cover the shortfall. She’s already started to make noises about a “voluntary agreement” to continue with a support amount monthly and is being extra nice to me, suggesting we have family dinners etc. it’s so painfully transparent, it’s pathetic. I consulted my lawyer, she said there is zero chance my ex can drag me back to court for more money as we will have been divorced for over 8yrs and a judge will see that as plenty of time for her to get her house in order plus the kids are adults so do not factor anymore. I, of course, will never pay her a dime beyond what is court ordered and am considering a total block on any and all communication, I just don’t want the hassle and want her out of my life.

Has anyone else had this, and how did you handle it?

Edit: oh and her long term BF just dumped her for a younger woman so her plan to get him to support her just fell through. I doubt that at 50yrs old she’s going to get many offers from here, especially considering she’s on the clock and would need to secure a new husband within a yr.
