Let me just start saying that I don't think she should expect him to provide for her, given that she's not his wife, BUT:

He makes way more than she does and wants everything to be split "equally", so he is in fact saving money at her expense.
He doesn't say whether they live together or not, but if they do, I bet that 50/50 doesn't apply to housework.
People in the comments mentioned that it would be fair if they split bills proportionately, and he resorts to the good old "we're adults, no one forced her to pay half" - when he said before he established the existence of the relationship to that type of financial agreement.

I understand that she must be exhausted with her work, but expecting to be provided for, especially by a stingy guy like this, is being delusional. She should stop paying for half this guy's bills and start saving money for her own business. He's only using her to reduce his expenses.

Edit: I’m breaking up with her. Apparently I’m controlling and bad boyfriend for expecting a grown adult woman to pull her weight in a relationship. My exes were engineers too and 50/50 worked great for us and we had the same morals and drive. My current gf is different from what I’m used to but her creative spontaneous carefree side is not cute to me anymore - she’s just irresponsible and I’m tired of being the mature one. I’m done with this, I don’t feel like she’s an equal partner to me.

Lawl. When women are stress free and living the life of leisure and creativity you prefer over "God awful career women"

This hit home for me recently, as I got coincidentally snowed in with my ex for 5 days.

It was expensive as hell to host him for 5 days at my house, and I was IN SHOCK I so readily agreed and was enthusiastic to do it for the previous two years of our relationship.

Just like with household duties, where men (maybe even sincerely) think they are doing 50/50.... they are NOT. (That was another revelation during our time together).

He thought he was being "50/50" bc he bought take out for us for 4 days. HA!!!!!! What a joke!!! The cost of electricity, water, food (I provided 3 home-cooked meals), the cleaning supplies to clean up after him, the obligation I felt to also "treat" him, the firewood I provided, the alcohol, the lingerie, the makeup/beauty products.... on and on and on. I woke up the 5th day sourly aware he just had a very nice hotel stay at minimal expense.

Of course, I didnt bother to explain this to him; I knew what his response would be: "Well we could have gone to my house." Mfer, you don't even have a flashlight. You have one thin blanket. No non-electric heating element. No battery powered charging station. No candles.

And you would think after providing him with this amazing staycation, he would be so grateful and very meticulous about cleaning up, picking up after himself, wiping his pee off my bathroom floor, giving me some one-sided sexual attention.... of course not ladies. Men are conditioned to expect women to take care of them, and women are conditioned to take care of men at our great expense.

So anyway, I immediately asked him to leave the morning of the 5th day as soon as I figured he could drive 3mph home and make it.

Never again. Learned my lesson even better this time around.

This is horrifying. I'm also an SDE at amazon and I make over 200k, and he's older than me so he likely makes even more. This poor girl got used to subsidize this man's bills when he makes at least 5 times what she does, and he saw nothing wrong with that. This guy should've never dated her if he wasn't okay with her not being on his level.

If you’re going to pay your own way, the best thing is to get roommates because they don’t expect you to clean up after them, cook for them, provide emotional support, take care of their pets, etc. but any guy I’ve ever lived with while being romantically involved did expect me to do all those things in addition to paying half or more of the bills. At some point I said enough, and decided the only way I’d ever live with a man again is if we were married and he was paying most if not all the bills. If I wanted a roommate I’d get a roommate.

The goldigger finishing with this woman could be a great opportunity for her. I hope her sudden request for him to pay was borne from her eyes being opened about heavily subsidising his lifestyle. She must prioritize supporting herself though.

He knows he's misbehaving and his self consciousness is showing through how he tidied up his rationalisation to say she wasn't up to his usual standard anyway. He went the extra mile to justify himself by throwing in the implied approval from other women (who knows if he made it up). Unnecessary and irrelevant - he already said his now ex had 'agreed' to it.

this makes me sad for her :( :( and thankful to think my own partner who stepped in to financially support me so i didn’t have to keep working in a grocery store during the plague while also trying to graduate college.
