Your story reminds me of something from Bandcroft's Why Does He Do That?, "the abusive man in arguments" section. In the example story, the abuser was stewing for 2 weeks over a dinner in which the guests were very interested in/excited about the gf's journalism classes, asking her a lot of questions. Making her the center of attention, which we know pisses off abusers and narcs soooo much. The abuser also recognizes her impending journalism career also is something that will give her independence. Which we all know they also hate. He starts this argument when they're out on a cold night, she's like "wtf", and he tells her she's "emotional" and that he's walking home. When it's freezing out and they live far away.

He walks home in the cold as a way to make her feel bad for him/garner sympathy. He can also tell this story later, in his typical distorted manner, to garner sympathy from others. Imo the abuser also punished her for exerting her independence and showing how smart and capable she is (tackling a new career).

Your story reminded me of it cuz he made himself sick, then expected you to feel sorry for him, may have told this story to others like "she just stood there and let me eat poisonous berries, can you believe it!?", and maybe he didn't like that you were a lot smarter than him on this subject. Or maybe he wanted an excuse to have an abusive episode.

I don't know how accurate my psychoanalysis is there haha but even though abusive behaviors seem crazy and nonsensical, abusers have clear motives that these seemingly nonsensical behaviors help them achieve. It's scary he went so far as to injure himself to blame it on you. Like that's some gone girl or leave her to heaven type shit.

This reminds me of my ex who got into fitness but would drink a lot of these preworkout drinks that obviously messed up his stomach, also he would only eat fast food before workouts. He told me he was throwing up after every workout and we got in a huge argument. Well, I witnessed karma in action that day. He LITERALLY shit his pants because he couldn’t make it to the bathroom in time. I couldn’t NOT laugh at that and he was screaming at me 🤣🤣🤣
