So true. Even commenting that a woman is "aging well" is rude and unnecessary because it implies that there is something wrong with a woman looking her age. Women shouldn't have to invest so much time, money, and energy into preventing aging but unfortunately we live in a society that still values a woman's looks and youth above all else.

Completely agree. The whole 'Men age like wine' thing pisses me off to no end considering society doesn't even allow us to age.

Yeah. Men are already less attractive to begin with. Hairy. Hard edges. Poor personal maintenance. Then they age and it really starts to show. The "fine wine" myth is just that—a blatant lie from the manosphere and pickmeishas. Women age much better than men do on average.
[–]Annia_CornificiaFDS Newbie28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I firmly believe "men age like fine wine" speaks more to how men are allowed to age as opposed to what they actually age like (which is usually terribly). Of course it seems like fine wine when you're actually allowed to have wrinkles, fine lines, and graying hair. Women aren't afforded the same luxury of being allowed to age.
[–]tossed_salad10022 points23 points24 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Exactly. And women need to stop "simping" for old wrinkly guys. The whole "silver fox" thing plays into this. I express visible disgust anytime I see an older man with a younger woman. It needs to be un-normalized.

Right! Maybe women could look dope like that too if they weren't essentially pressured into plastic surgery and Botox treatments!
[–]FabledAngryVillagerFDS Apprentice11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Probably because the standard is because they're allowed to "look their age" and women are supposed to "look good for their age" or younger.

There’s a dude I know of Middle Eastern origin who I swear has not aged in 30 years, and is one handsome fucker. It’s just uncanny at this point. I have seen him in daylight, but next time I run into him I’ll be checking out reflective surfaces to double check he’s not a vampire or something.

Men who look after themselves very well get better with age sometimes, yes. The rest of them get wrinkly, balding, beer bellies and tired looking. The delusion is unreal.

Exactly. Whenever people make the polite “joke” that I don’t look ‘a day over 18/21/25’ when I tell them my age or when it’s my birthday etc, or whatever else, it pisses me off. Because it’s that whole thing that women should always look young to be beautiful. Like, I get that it’s supposed to be a compliment, but that’s the whole problem! Why are we so closely associating a woman’s beauty, and as an extension, her worth on how young she is or at least how young she looks. Oh right, because women should be seen not heard and when we are young is precisely the time that that happens. We have no power. Supposed to be the ever young doe eyed doll. Women who own their beauty and age are attractive, at least to decent people. You don’t want to be around people who expect or only see beauty in very young women - it’s creepy.
[–]Noemie_MathildeFDS Newbie5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
True, you never hear them say "You don't look a day over 21!" to a man
[–]HmtnswFDS Newbie8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Right. Because apparently the most attractive women are teens but legally you can't have them so the next best thing is just barely legal (18-22).
[–]moxymoxaloneFDS Newbie136 points137 points138 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The beauty industry is worth hundreds of millions of dollars annually.
If we were all happy with ourselves it wouldn’t survive. So it behooves them to peddle the lie that there is something wrong with us just for existing as women and successfully changes the playbook every decade so that the newest crop of teens can be indoctrinated in the self- hatred needed to keep the industry wildly profitable.
[–]ciceriiFDS Newbie133 points134 points135 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It’s especially annoying when they comment on women 50 plus and act aghast that’s she could “let herself go” by getting wrinkles and gray hair. I was watching YouTube videos of Shania Twain, who still looks amazing, and the comments about her aging were disgusting.

Shania Twain is a national Treasure! And quite frankly writes a lot of fantastic bangers (which in my opinion some are quite FDS focused) and went through hell with her ex-husband and best friend when she found out they were having an affair behind her back. Although her current partner is some high exec who works for Nestle which is a horrible corporation...Shania is still the one, forever and for always! Why do people think it’s okay to point out the any flaws of others...

Mgtows comparing women (the majority) to female millionaires (the exceptions to the rule) is ridiculous. Saying that women age like milk and men age like wine is the farthest thing from "logical". Humans aren't supposed to look 30 years younger in their 50s like Jlo and Shakira. It's unnatural and very recent in human civilization. Men's sexual hypergamy Always makes them target younger and "fresher" women. But they don't want to talk about that.
[–]Equal-Ear2312FDS Apprentice43 points44 points45 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
never before heard of the milk comparison but some of the finest cheese out there is aged really well (matured?)
anyway, they need to check their facts because they are all wrong. saying like these just perpetuate a skewed and unrealistic vision of the world. the majority of men in their 30s on OLD look literally like crap.
also, gathering data from opinion is not science. like this load of bull article in ny times.
[–]Ok_Ad_67FDS Newbie94 points95 points96 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It’s like no matter what we do we get criticised.
We’re both told we can’t be beautiful if we’re old And also that we can’t age. We are pressured into spending heaps of money on anti aging creams, hair dye, Botox, fillers, etc;
And yet when we do we’re “trying too hard” or look trashy. Or that we should “dress for our age”.
But if we don’t invest in these things, we’re called ugly and old. Or people say we’ve “let ourselves go” or “hit the wall”.
You just can’t win. Men will criticise us no matter what. And the beauty industry + media will profit from our insecurities.
[–]NineOneNineOneNineFDS Newbie6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Omg yes! ‘Hit a wall’? Are they fucking serious? Lol. Just because certain men prefer naive, submissive, convictionless, barely legal, barely physically possible charicatures of mute women does not mean we ‘hit a wall’ at a given age.
They’re pissed because our minds, goals, and personalities develop and we stop putting up with their bullshit. We stop giving ourselves away with nothing in return.
I used to pluck my gray hairs, now I see it as hair glitter. So, sparkley... it’s proof that I’ve seen a thing or two. And yes, I have crows feet and smile lines! We are allowed to age.
Meanwhile, 50% of guys my age don’t have a working dick and want to see if I can help them out?! Block, delete, and get the fuck out of my house-take your self pity with you!
They can be so delusional too. Sixty two year old ex paying for headshots to pursue acting... have you looked in the mirror mother fucker? Maybe a voice actor for a cartoon commercial about erectile dysfunction, maybe... but headshots? Lol.

Women are fucking terrible to each other. I find they're the ones dying to point out how old you look, you have a wrinkle, is that grey hair?, your pigmentation looks bad uwu, etc. The others are usually scrotes but LVM aren't real people so idc lol

I also constantly see 30 something women on reddit saying that people always mistake them for a teenager. I've met one woman that genuinely looked about 15 when she was 30 but she is the only person I've ever met who looks that much younger. I'm sorry, but you can't all look 17. Sad that they feel the need to lie about that.

That sounds really frustrating, I'm sorry you're subjected to judgement because you look really young.
My comment definitely wasn't aimed at people like you, as I do completely appreciate that many women look younger, particularly women still in their early 20s. I was talking about all the 35 year olds on reddit that brag about looking 18. That is a very rare thing and I don't believe that most of them are telling the truth. It's often done in a way to make themselves sound superior to other women and curiously, it happens a lot on skincare threads where women are asking for advice about fine lines and skin aging. For example, a woman in her 30s might be complaining about her fine lines and then suddenly half the comments are from women who are 40 and don't have a single fine line because they're just so genetically blessed.
As you said, women who do have baby faces tend to hate it and don't use that to smugly put down women who look their age. Also, the body shaming towards petite women is so fucked up and makes me really angry. Apologies if it seemed like I was denying your reality and I really do empathise with you and the struggles of baby-faced women.
[–]NovemberinthechairFDS Disciple38 points39 points40 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Right? I keep seeing shit like that. It's insulting regardless, but when the person being praised is practically fetal tissue. 😖 Its very Logan's Run. Male focused ageism. Also, your face doesn't melt off just because you've had a certain birthday, fcs.
[–]MindeskaFDS Newbie36 points37 points38 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
I also think it's wild how men seem to think women turn into old hags at 30. I get SO MANY MEN saying they can't believe I'm 35, and that I look so good. 35 IS young! Why would I look old? It's so much brainwashing of men that women over 30 are old and haggard. There's very little difference between being 28 and 35, both are 'young adult' ages. I barely look any different to how I did then and why would I?
[–]yolosunshineFDS Newbie18 points19 points20 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think a lot of men AND women have been brainwashed into thinking 30+ is 'old'. Most people don't know what 35 looks like. I remember a male colleague describing a new student to me, when I used to work as a teacher in adult education. He said something like 'she's around 35 now but she must have been beautiful when she was younger'. The student in question was 44!

[–]InevitableHulkFDS Newbie8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Which is basically half my point. Whether it’s genetics, money, whatever, not everyone is going to look 40 when they’re 60, and that’s fine. Society is youth-obsessed and it usually women who pay for that obsession. As someone mentioned in another comment, aging is a privilege and (in my opinion) comes with benefits far better than possibly “looking good for your age.” A lot of women tend to overlook the benefits because we’re too busy being brainwashed into thinking aging is bad.
[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What does 40 "look like". That's what has changed & continues to change. The average life expectancy in the US has almost doubled since 1900. When most people were dead at 45, 40 was old & 20 middle aged. With the current average life expectancy around 79, most 40 year olds aren't hobbling around joints riddled with osteo-arthritis & heart dangerously weakened by infected gums & rotten teeth. Instead, the average 40 year old might pull a muscle playing basketball more easily than they did at 20. But they're still out there running around on the court.
I don't think that most posters are trying to say they look like 20 year olds even though they're 35. They're saying that they look & act like a modern 35yo woman. That looks a lot different than a 35yo woman did even a generation ago. I'll be 45 next week. My mom needed help getting up off the floor when she was my age. I teach 3-5 power yoga & level 2/3 vinyasa classes per week & compete semi-pro in a physically demanding sport. I'm healthier & in far better shape now than I was 25 years ago. Nothing hurts, I've not had to make any adjustments to my physical activity level, & in fact am still improving. Do I look 25? Hell no. I look like a modern 45yo.

I agree with this post. I also love it when women are looking great in their 30’s especially as a BW cause most BM expect your downfall after you age. It’s like a double edged sword do I wanna look good and feel good (whatever’s that looks like yourself, or do I have to fight someone because they’re gonna make a snide comment about my appearance that’s always been said to me my entire life. This shit happens way before your 30 and is a conditioning mechanism towards women to look like an ideal that they don’t care about.
It really puts a lot of fear in young girls minds that they’ll never be loved unless they’re like the LVMs preference to the bitter end (A.K.A EXHAUSTING!) That includes mothers and fathers because they are some of the BIGGEST perps to clown their daughters and call it “love!”
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
My friends and I did some math:
$250 per haircut/dye, 4 x a year = $1000 $65 Brazilian waxes 5x a year = $325 $400 make up and hair products =400 $65 mani-pedi 5x a year = $325
I think I'm pretty low maintenance too. I don't get my nails done, I don't have false lashes, or hair extensions. I haven't gotten laser hair removal, or any eyebrow - anything.
Total $2050 a year
Let's say I've done that from ages 25-35. That's $20,500 dollars.
The LEAST a guy could do is get hair implants or use rogaine to be equivalent to our beauty expenditures.
She was very mature/grown up looking as a teenager. I think that's part of it. Some people just look like adults once they hit puberty. I went to school with a guy that is an anchor on one of the big metro area evening news shows. I distinctly remember my mother commenting when we were in middle school that he looked like a miniature adult. 30+ years later, he's got some salt & pepper hair going on. But otherwise looks exactly the same as he did at 13. It is crazy.

The way women’s aging is viewed in America is bizarre. There is really no “mature but still young grown woman” stage acknowledged. If we can no longer pass for 18-25, we must be old hags. There’s no in between. Imo if you see her close up, Anne looks 36. She looks good because 36 is not old, not because she still looks 18.
For comparison, Chris Hemsworth is 37. Nobody ever remarks on how good he looks “for his age” because nobody thinks a man in his 30s is old. Nobody ever talks about him looking 18 because men aren’t expected to look 18 their whole lives. They’re allowed to look both mature and youthful.
