Fucking disgusting. I’d have blocked immediately. I worry that my safety may be in jeopardy from any man who sees absolutely nothing wrong with saying things like that to a complete stranger. And then instead of owning it, he gaslights and calls the woman crazy. I would report him to the app for harassment.

This is the kind of treatment that is still in the realm of acceptance, but that eats away a woman’s confidence, sense of security and wellbeing in the world.

I know the culture on OLD is different than real life, but I get super angry if a man says something on OLD that would be inappropriate to say in real life.

If a man’s introduction is ‘hey sweetie/beautiful/pretty/babe,etc.’ I now respond by saying ‘can I respectfully ask you not to call me sweetie? I’ve worked too hard on my years of education and career to have people who don’t know me address me as ‘sweetie’.

We should have a post that shares about how we respond to men’s disrespect and demeaning OLD behavior.

I’m not a child. I’m a grown human adult. How would the man I’m seeing feel if I went around calling every man I just met ‘sweetie’?? It’s patronizing!!!! It is empowering for men and disempowering for women!!

I know I am a little uptight about this, lol.

For what it’s worth, I love being called sweetie and all kinds of pet names once I have established some form of emotional intimacy with a person.
