Women in India: Spends many millennia treated as burdens - from birth, throughout childhood, entering a marriage (dowry), being condemned for wanting to work after a marriage, enduring domestic abuse at the hands of the in-laws and husband. Basically second class citizens.

Women in India: Get granted some financial security in the case of a divorce and so she doesn't starve/become homeless (because she didn't inherit shit from her family like her husband did) and/or become completely ostracized by the community for leaving an [abusive] relationship.

Indian men: FeMaLe PrIvILaGe and We MeN aRe So OpPrEsSed because we now have a repercussion for our mistreatment of women.

I hate this movement among the men. Many of them justify their rationale by stating women take advantage of them with an alimony, but those numbers are negligible. That culture needs a long-due overhaul with its treatment of women/girls.

These men are just upset that they have to think about consequences now - exactly how anyone of any privilege would react.

I remember when my old roommate traveled to India for vacation and came back with her tour guide from the trip as her boyfriend. He was the most demeaning, cruel, and had zero respect for women. When I first met him, he told me that he bought me a present and that in order to have the present I would need to write him up a fake 5-star review on trip advisor for his tour guide services. (I didnt, and told him I was all set with receiving his 'free' magnet). During his stay he would glare at me incessantly and even went as far as to hide around a corner where I didnt see him, run up behind me as I was walking unsuspectedly across the hallway and grab me from behind. He thought his behavior was acceptable and that it was okay to violate my physical space. Fuck this man and this shitty culture.

I've had a couple of really good looking Indian guys try to chat me up on ODS. Many of them looked like they were wealthy too. Still a big hell no from me and I never respond to them. I'm sure there are some Indian men who aren't misogynists but I have yet to meet one.

Most of Indian culture sees women as second class citizens, or even property (first of their family, then of their husband's family). Why would I want to talk to, much less date, someone who sees me that way?

india has always been very patriarchal and sexist. with more and more women starting to work and abandon abusive arrange marriages, the men are getting scared. they KNOW they are the real cause of violence and abuse and are scared of being held accountable. they need to make themselves think they are the victims to escape the accountability.
