Ho ho ho!!!! I have tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. I was so sick of hearing stories of domestic abuse and women being screwed over during divorce. I really needed this story of karma hitting this prick in the ass. I know the OP (in the post) didn’t mean to ruin his life. But I’m just sooooo glad that’s what happened! I can’t believe the asshole was so manipulative he wanted her to forfeit her rights to consult a lawyer as well. I bet the little ballsack was lying about his ex being a gold digger as well just to get her to split the bills. HE seems like the bigger gold digger in my opinion tbh.

AITA for letting everyone we know find out about the details of the prenup I was asked to sign?

“Dan” and I were introduced by mutual friends two years ago, and lived together for one. Always a great, really equal relationship. This was super important to both of us because his ex fiancé was kind of a gold digger, and my ex boyfriend was really controlling of our money. So Dan and I always split all our joint bills down the middle, even though I’m a teacher and he’s in tech, which worked for us because we lived pretty frugally. All that to say that he’d mentioned wanting a prenup before we got married, and I was always totally in support of that, especially since he owns some property and we’d planned for me to be a SAHM for a while, so I wanted to make sure I’d be protected if we divorced then.

We talked a lot about how we were both planning to get married, the timeline, and he said he wanted to get our prenup figured out before the “official” engagement. Great. He handed me the paperwork two weeks ago and asked me to pick a time to sign it in front of his friend who is a notary, and I was…completely shocked. Basically, it said that he would get literally everything in a divorce. All property, money, retirement funds, and possessions. It required me to forfeit alimony and agree that if either of us filed for divorce, I would get 10k and market rate rent for a studio apartment for one year (which would also mean that I couldn’t have any custody of our future kids in a divorce since in our state you need at least one bedroom for them).

I was totally bowled over and when I tried to talk to him about it, he kept insisting it was fair, since I wouldn’t be working for a while once we have kids, so I wouldn’t be making any money, and I shouldn’t be allowed to keep any of his money in a divorce. He said we'd write a postnup when I went back to work. And I UNDERSTAND why he thought that was fair, but saying he'd take my kids and leave me in poverty if we divorced was so needlessly cruel.

The paperwork included a document for me to sign away my right to consult with a lawyer about it, but I asked a friend of mine who is a lawyer to look over it anyway. She did this on an informal basis, so there was no confidentiality, and I hadn’t thought about how she’s dating one of Dan’s really good friends. I also talked it over in serious detail with my best friend because I just needed someone else’s opinion on whether I was being unreasonable or my almost-fiance had done something super crazy. They both blabbed, and now basically everyone in our group of friends (including all Dan’s college friends) knows everything about the prenup, and think he’s a completely misogynistic villain. It even got back to his parents, who are super upset with him. Obviously we split up and I moved out, but me letting this get around seems to be basically ruining Dan’s life. One of our friends said that the family friend who hired him at his company heard about it and it's wrecked his reputation at work.

Basically he drew up a contract for domestic slavery. If she leaves him for any reason, she loses her home, her kids, and is destitute. What an absolute monster. I hope he gets the years of therapy he so desperately needs, and stays far away from women, who he obviously hates.

He put shit in there that he can't even legally negotiate. That lawyer probably laughed her ass off. Judges throw out these stupid agreements all the time. A prenup makes little sense for most normal people. If you are hitting 7 figures, yes, otherwise, not worth the drama.

Most men with big/old money in higher circles don't do this. That's not how it's done in their world and this is why this pig's friends and colleagues are so appalled.

Lmfao what a satisfying read. I'm not against SAHM but the concept is scaring me more than ever because the world is just full of scrotes who want to use it as a way to financially abuse their wives.

I've been thinking I don't want to have kids anymore, and part of it I think it's just not logistically possible. I don't trust schools, teachers, other parents, and other kids enough to send my own kids to school, so I'd have to home school. Which means me or my hypothetical husband couldn't work full time. I'm not doing a single income household, and I'm not taking a hiatus from my career bc then I have no financial security. Only way I would even consider having kids is if husband had a super flexible job or his own business where he could stay home w/ the kids and work. A HVM with that set up sounds about as realistic as a unicorn lol.

My ex wanted to split things. He made almost $60k and I didn't even make $20k as college student on hiatus. I struggled to pay rent and utilities (AND we had had a roommate to make things cheaper ) feed myself and make partial student loan payments. He did pay me lunch and dinner a lot but pretty much from where he wanted to eat since he was paying.

We've been broken up for over a year now, I'm in my last semester in college after getting back in last Fall and dropped 50 lbs (and still going!) Things are going good.

This is something I've said time and time again. Women having children, rearing children and even giving up their jobs to take care of the family, is an astronomical amount of labor and sacrifice that is so important. This all should be compensated. (In my opinion, the state should wade in but not to get political...) Any HVM would recognise the sacrifice his woman is making just in getting pregnant and be happy to give her a share of his wealth, especially since its going to benefit the children, too. This is such a depressing look into the selfish, narcissistic minds of these males, who want everything for themselves without giving a crumb in return. I'm glad she got the hell out.
