Not my best story, just my most recent example.

Whenever I mention a new book I’m reading, he’ll buy the same book to read so we can discuss it. He knows I love talking about books and a lot of my friends aren’t big readers. He makes sure I have that outlet.

He also sends me my favorite flowers on a near weekly basis. I love flowers.

I was once with a man with many HV qualities, including the fact that he is still to this point my only long-term partner who never ever considered sex over if I hadn't come. I broke it off because he wasn't HV enough for me (he wasn't ambitious enough in life). We remained friends afterwards. I remember a situation soon after our breakup where I had immensely stressful time regarding my school/professional life and for several days I nearly didn't have time to be home. My home had turned into a super mess because of that. He still had my key, so I asked him a favour one day to drop by and feed my cat while I was away. When I returned home that night, not only was my cat fed: he had cleaned the whole place and left me flowers with a sweet note. It wasn't a move to get me back, he simply wanted to make this difficult period a bit easier for me and make me smile. I still remember him with affection and wish him all the best in life.

My Dad is a HVM. My mom was a teen mom with my older brother & she met my dad in college.

My mom survived an aneurism when I was in elementary school that left her paralyzed and unable to speak. Doctors said she’s never recover any function and wanted to put her in a nursing home for the rest of her life. My dad saw she was fighting and put everything he had towards getting her the rehab she needed. She spent 1 year in the hospital, 1 year in an in patient rehab facility and 2 years outpatient daily therapy. She can drive with vehicle modifications, hold a conversation (still has some speaking difficulties), and walk with a leg brace. My dad takes care her— he does most of the chores on top of financially supporting the family & being a good dad to us.

My dad stayed up all night with me to help me write a research paper for school when I was 15. He’s helped me with countless pieces of homework — including in college. He paid for my college so I have no student debt by taking on an additional job as an adjunct college professor (he’s an expert in his field). I can call my dad any day or night and he’d be there for me. My dad coached my soccer team when I was a kid (he stopped coaching after my mom had an aneurysm but went to almost every single game until I quit playing). He volunteers to help encourage disadvantaged kids get interested in STEM & volunteers at a soup kitchen once a month. He also has periodically taught Sunday school over the years.

Like honestly, I don’t know how he does it all....

He gave me a credit card with purchasing power against his credit only (not my credit). He gave me a ring. He makes me laugh, he has a degree, he constantly gives me the best sex I have ever had. He gives me his undevoted attention and committement. He never lies. He owns mistakes. He gives me space when I need it. He cooks, cleans and is extremely self aware and kind person to himself, his friends and family. He has hobbies of his own. He shares everything. He is his own person and he makes me a better person. We are a HV couple. He always respects me and puts me first.

He showed me how healthy relationships looked like and helped me grow as a person. He made me feel safe, supported, cherished and loved. Made me realize my wants and needs were important, too.

I have been a pickme and have had some terrible boyfriends after him, but it could've been A LOT worse. I was raised with a lot of internalized misogyny and he helped me to discover the 'real me underneath' who values authenticity, freedom and autonomy. After our relationship, I wasn't afraid anymore to be more vocal about the fact that I respect and value myself enough to know that I don't deserve N/LV behavior from my SO. I walked away fairly fast after being exposed to bullshit from men.

10 years later, I am now at the point that I won't even enter any kind of toxic relationship anymore. If he would not have been in my life from my 18th till my 23rd, my learning curve would have been a lot longer. He also didn't expect me to do any of his chores. I spent the weekends at his place a lot and if he still had a mess, he would put me on the couch with the remote and tell me to watch something nice when he would clean up his mess. It made me also realize that grown ass men who don't know how to behave in a relationship and want you to act like a bangmaid, are worse than my 19 year old bf from uni.

Edit: he also spoilt me with romantic getaways, dinners and paying for my groceries and stuff. He was a 19 year old uni kid when I met him but he just loved to spoil me a bit. Although I really appreciated this, the best gift he gave me was making me feel very safe and introducing me into his very mature, positive, healthy and genuinely happy mindset.

Funny that I see that question today, I have been thinking about making a list of HVM green flags about my current bf (aka gushing about how amazing he is.)

In no specific order:

He actually has his shit together. He's got an impressive career and a broad spectrum of interests.

He sees things in me not many people see. He reminded me of my worth and my potential when everything was falling apart.

We learn and grow together, teach each other new things.

He takes my criticism as an opportunity to grow. If I don't like something, he changes it.

He always manages to cheer me up and make me ugly laugh.

He's generous, kind and gentle but no pushover.

He makes an effort, and never takes my effort for granted.

He has a wholesome, tight-knit group of friends. He also gets along really well with my friends.

And he's one of the smartest and wittiest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. There's never a dull moment with him, and I mean that in the best way.

I don’t have any of my own but... my lovely little niece who’s 23 has been with her bf now for a year. He’s been in love with her for 7 years but she friend zoned him right at the start. He remained an amazing friend, never mentioned his feelings again and quietly accepted his place in her life while she went out with a horrible boy.

We’ve all loved him for years and could see the way he treated her and the way he looked at her and I’m delighted she finally saw the light.

This man is only 26, he helps my niece babysit her disabled sister on a Saturday night, helps my mum (her nan) with all things man related, picked me up from the airport one Christmas night after a disastrous trip (they were just friends then). It was her birthday last week and he suprised her with a romantic weekend away. I was hoping he would propose 😂 I keep telling my niece to hang on to this one, they’re rare.

They’ve started looking at houses to buy and have got a kitten together.

Mine recently took some money out of his savings to help me start a small business so I can have more income besides my 9-5. He thought of it all on his own based on my capacities and what I’ve told him. It’s been going great; he helps me run it and the income is all mine. It was a gamble but he was very supportive and his encouragement has really helped things take off.

There are legit so many things I could write down here about my current boyfriend, especially about our day-to-day experiences. I love him so, so much and he is constantly being the absolute best partner I could have ever wished for. He's attentive and thoughtful, he's really kind, he is always super helpful, he cheers me up and makes me laugh, he listens to me talk about my special interests, even the ones we don't share, and in the rare case of me being slightly unhappy with anything (relationship-wise) he listens, finds a solution and goes through with it. I feel so loved and appreciated with him.

Unfortunately we are long distance as of now, but we talk to each other for hours each day and we do have plans to move together in the future! 😊

I don't necessarily have a "best" story, but I think this one would be nice to share: On Valentines day, he contacted a flower shop from one of my neighboring countries so they would deliver blue orchids to me. In the previous year I had casually mentioned how I had been searching for blue orchids for a really long time now (we're talking years) since the shops in and around my hometown don't sell them and I don't have the opportunity to travel outside that area a lot. He also asked them to add a little note for me with a cute message in my native language. It's so incredibly heartwarming to realize just how much attention he pays to what I say - the flowers are just one example of many.

My dad is one of the only HVM I’ve ever experienced in my life and he’s not even perfect. He’s taken me to Europe, paid for my schooling, believed in my writing even when I didn’t believe in myself. I don’t want a husband if he can’t beat that. I’d rather be alone.

I told him I liked coffee and be brought me coffee every single time he picked me up to go somewhere.

It sounds small, but doing it every single time showed that he thought of something nice to do for me almost everyday, and budgeted his time to get into a drive thru and still always be punctual. It also started the day off on the right foot.

This was an ex. There were other problems with that relationship (forever girlfriend issue).

But when I think of how much he spent on me it's actually quite a lot. We got together about every other day, which means he spent easily $1200 on coffee, for me alone, throughout the duration of our relationship. That's excluding dates, gas, presents etc.

Sometimes I get mad about how it ended. But then, I realize that the relationship has run it's course and should have ended sooner anyway, and at least I got free coffee for the duration of my college experience.

So this is just a recent example but my anxiety with everything going on has been off the roof lately. Like, there are legit days I won’t move. I have somethings that help me a lot that I tend to count on, but he’s always there when I call him no matter how late or what he’s doing.

A recent example was this past week I called him at 11pm (he works 1am-10am so he’s usually asleep by then) because my anxiety was becoming too much. I really just wanted to talk about it but instead he came over, brung my favorite slushee, cleaned my house, made me some food, and held me until I fell asleep. I love this man so much

I’m a nurse running an aged care facility in a very remote area and my partner is a podiatrist (which is how we met). He knows how important my residents are to me, so they get very special treatment when he visits. He knows them all very well now (I talk about my job a LOT with him) and despite the fact his boss puts restrictions on how much time we’re allocated due to $$$ etc, he always works out a way around it when I need him to come help out. That’s just one of 100 things I could mention, but it’s a unique one so I’ll go with that!

My boyfriend surprised me with a weekend away for our one year anniversary. Didn’t tell me where we were going because he knows I love surprises. Booked a suite with an outdoor spa and patio overlooking the lake and paid for everything. Took me skiing and on a day trip to a neighbouring town too. He has never once gone against his word, I trust him wholeheartedly, he lets me know everyday how beautiful and sexy I am and how much he loves me through his words and actions. I have never felt so valued and respected by a man in all my life. He has a great job, a wonderful family and strong values. And he’s only 24! I’m very lucky :)

So my husband doesn’t really like cats & from the time I was 12 years old I’ve always wanted a Ragdoll (breed of cat). I’ve checked shelters for them— they just don’t get surrendered in my state. I legit almost drove 12 hours each way to adopt an adult Ragdoll in another state but it was adopted out locally.

Few months before we got engaged he BOUGHT me a Ragdoll kitten for Valentines Day (they’re not cheap, mind you). He put a deposit with a breeder in the area (one of two in the entire state) and then one of the cats had a litter of 8 (ragdolls typically only give birth to 3-4 kittens on average). Normally there is a waiting period of up to 1+ year (as the breeder only allows 2 reservations per litter) so we lucked out with 3 kittens still being available. I got to pick which kitten I wanted out of the 3 available.

Also, the breeder has a policy of personally rehoming cats if you don’t want it anymore or can not longer care for it (all at her own expense)— which is part of why they aren’t commonly in shelters She also interviewed us before consenting to sell us a kitten so she’s a very ethical breeder.

I had a college boyfriend transfer schools for a semester (we were long distance- several states away) so that we wouldn't have to be long distance anymore. His school was private and would allow for one semester to transfer back. He moved, left his friends, and he was very close with his college buddies, dealt with all the bureaucracy of transferring between out of state schools just so that we could be together for that semester. Men will move mountains when they want to.

Another boyfriend was a really attentive gift giver. I am not talking about expensive gifts. I mean gifts that showed he listened and cared. For example I love reading about history and I made some off hand comment about wanting to know more about WW1. Three weeks later we happen to go to a bookstore. He bee lines to the history section and ends up surprising me at the check out counter with several books on WW1. I would mention I had never been to a state park that sounded cool in a casual conversation. Months later over the summer I would find out he had planned a weekend getaway trip there. Just a constant flow of small and big thoughtful gifts to show his attentive affection.

When we were in college, it snowed over two feet during the night. I had to get to work still the next morning, and I come out of my dorm and discover my car has been shoveled out and cleaned off. We weren't dating yet, but that impressed me.

Most recently got me flowers and my favorite super greasy breakfast the morning my foster dog went to live with her new family because he knew I'd be sad. Reminds me to be kinder and have more compassion for myself when I feel guilty about being depressed and unproductive during this whole pandemic. Has a cleaning lady that comes twice a month and doesn't expect me to clean at all. Came with me to the hospital and to file a police report when I completely blacked out and woke up in another city ( long scary story but I'm fine) and canvassed the area the next day to try and piece together the pieces of what could have happened and was just all around very supportive through that terrible ordeal.

I don't think I can pick just one thing he has done as my favourite, so I will just mention a few off the top of my head 😊

I play a certain game and they have splits and pro play....which of course I watch and follow. My boyfriend has never played this game, but he started watching them with me, read up on the game and champions and actively roots for a team he liked. Made us T-shirts to support our teams on worlds last year!
He was buying clothes 3 weeks ago and called me to pick some for myself. Anything I might need or just want. I looked thru a few dresses, but ultimately decided I loved them, but didn't need them so I didn't order them. All the dresses I liked arrived with his clothes, he had gotten them for me. 3 days ago he surprised me with another dress in the same style as the ones he bought me before, picked it out himself.
I don't like bouquets, but love cactuses and planted flowers. He frequently comes home with a new flower for me, just because!
His work starts 2hrs after mine and he is currently working from home, while mine is a rather long commute from our place. He wakes up at 6.30am with me to make me coffee and just spend some time with me. Every. Single. Morning.

Those things aren't even 1% of the things he does tbh, but they show he really cares for me and listens to me which is the most important.

Sent flowers to my workplace weekly—each week a different kind. My favourite was a bouquet of 3 dozen gorgeous, yellow Ecuadorian roses. No man has ever been good enough since! More importantly, he appreciated my sense of humour and intelligence, and helped improve my then-terrible self-esteem.
Recent ex, whilst I was going through money problems years ago, he voluntarily paid for my student loans, put me up in an apartment and gave me money. When we broke up, he promised he’ll always love me and be there for me. I know he’s just a phone call away if I need him, he’s a dear friend.

While I was away on vacation with my family, he moved house for me as it was an unexpected move and hit right in the middle of a 10 day foreign trip. I didn't even have to ask, he just offered, I packed up before I left, he got a friend of his to help, and never brings it up.
