Why lie about it? To get those guys to sleep with them, obviously. Sexual desire doesn't suddenly flare into life on the morning of your eighteenth birthday; teenagers are some of the horniest people on the planet- girls and boys alike.

We, as a society, have decided that it's unacceptable to have sex with someone under a certain age; what that age is varies by location. But the proportion of people who reach that age with their virginity intact is typically fairly low. Some do it specifically to hurt men. Some women will falsely accuse as adults at any age, but usually it is the younger crowd. I always record certain interactions to protect myself, and hopefully I won't get pinned with some consent law because it's the only option to ensure my safety aside from not going near anyone. A friend of a friend is going through this right now - they are saying alcohol was furnished and they were pressed into sex, of course after they had a great time and then regretted what happened, probably after someone shamed them for it. I think ladies know they have that leverage, so they don't care as much about taking the risks involved; they can play victim and be taken care of by sympathetic types.

When I started dating my husband (he was my first relationship), I was 19 and super naive. His ex-girlfriend, who cheated on him, started texting him as soon as she found out we were dating. Asking him how his life was going, how he was doing, etc. Then came the flirting and the questions about me.

She then started a “social media” war with me. Posting thirst traps with captions about how “all her exes downgraded.” Obvious passive-aggressive references to me. And she did chip away at my self-esteem - her thirst traps certainly made her look a lot sexier than me. And we were at the age where all of the men in our peer group seemed to love “sluts.”

For a while I felt inferior to her because she was getting a lot more male sexual attention than me. I felt like my husband downgraded. I felt like he couldn’t be proud to show me off. I felt like she was the “prize,” desired by lots of men, and he was only with me because I was a safe option.

This isn’t just a matter of “young girls think older guys are hot and want to sleep with them.” It’s way more disturbing than that.

These girls are sleeping with older men because they are using male sexual attention as a sort of commodity to gain clout in their female social circles. The girl with the most likes on her thirst traps wins. The girl with the most male attention wins.

It’s horrifying. We always talk about men “using” women for sex but…women use men, too. Women use men for attention and status and competition with other women. And now it’s bleeding into the younger generations.

This literally happened to a work friend. Some colleagues and I went to a bar for a work social one night. Some girls came in a short time after and one of them and he started talking at the bar. She had to show ID to get in and again to buy drinks so us and he assumed she was of age.

Apparently they went home together and a few weeks later the cops showed up to our workplace and arrested him. Told us it was statutory SA. She had used a fake id to get into the bar and buy drinks. We were told she was 15-16 (wtf does that mean? She’s either one or the other).

He spent a short time in jail, went to court and was on bail before trial. We had to appear as witness at trail. Prosecutor tried to make the argument that because we (us and her) were all drinking she even being a minor (15, finally came out in court) couldn’t consent because she was intoxicated. His attorney said she had presented fake id to get into the bar and buy drinks so it was reasonable for him to assume she was of age and able to consent.

Ultimately he was found guilty because even though she had produced fake documents saying she was of age he still committed a crime unknowingly (because she preformed oral on him) And that could not be allowed to go unpunished.

This was before the big COOF. He appealed and since then the courts have been slow to move things through. Hoping things come of it and are made right.

When I was 21 or 22 in the mid-80s, my roommate and I went to a bar (we went to many bars) and picked up two ladies who came home and spent the night with us. They looked and acted our age and both were experienced and willingly and happily participated in the activities of the evening.

We woke up to our door being hammered on by the father of one of the girls, who turned out to be 14. My buddy went to jail for 20 years for statutory rape. About 10 years in, he got tired of being raped and fought back by bashing in his main rapist's head. He was in the process of being tried for murder 1 when he was shanked and died.

It really is unfair to expect a man (of any age) to determine when someone is a teenager versus in their 20's. The level of image manipulation just in real life is unreal, that's not even including instagram filters. A young women does not even need to be talented, only determined to make herself look older.

And the laws surrounding it do not care. I've seen cases where even the girl having a fake ID isn't enough and the man is convicted of statutory rape. They don't care about the context, they care that the event happened.

I feel like someone is going to say ‘ask for their I.D’ - but people use fake I.D’s to get into bars and a lot of them succeed. And most bartenders/ bouncers are trained and know what to look for and even they get tricked. So that method won’t even work

This happened to a friend of mine like 15 years ago. He was 24-25 and went to a local college frat party where everyone was required to be 21+ and there was supposedly people carding at the door. He met a girl who spent the night with him in a spare bedroom at the party house. He went down on her and when he was done he said she wasn't interested in reciprocating and just passed out.

Next morning she gets up and runs out the door. Several weeks later he gets a visit from the cops. Turns out she was 17. She got in trouble with her parents for not coming home and instead of taking her lumps she claimed she went to a party where someone spiked the drinks and my friend raped her. He got locked up for maybe a year and is now a registered sex offender for life. The fact that he had every expectation that anyone at the party was a minimum of 21 years old didn't matter to the cops or the judge in the least.

This is far from new, back in High School there used to be lots of 16-17 year olds go into the bars and clubs in my town to drink, party, and find guys to fuck. (18 is drinking age)

That to me would be considered rape consent or not because also to me I would feel horrible inside learning that information. New problems require new solutions but sadly many claim mens problems aren’t big enough problems to cause action or that they don’t exist entirely. When I asked friends about it they always said people online took them more seriously if they thought they were older. I get that, I hated being talked down to like “oh you’re just a kid”. When I was young enough to worry about the ages of the women I was meeting on the Internet, if they claimed to be 21 then go to a bar where they check ID. If not then find some way to check ID yourself, pull yours out and comment on the photo, hey how did yours come out? If you can’t see the ID, then it’s not worth the risk. This is such an interesting take. I wish to hear more from actual people who had been in this certain circumstance. My first impression upon reading this is modus operandi. It's not really news to me that people will generally catfish men into extorting money. I know someone (guy acquaintance) who told me that he did that as a job.

For a teen to engage in sex with older men feels unnatural to me, I don't think that there's some bragging rights to that when (culturally), it's frowned upon for girls to have sex at a very young age. Although, I've seen in the internet that it is possible for a woman to sell their virginity so it could be that modus operandi is to corner older men into extorting money in exchange of not being sent to prison.

Sex trafficking hasn't been erased no matter how open and expressive a lot of people had been so indeed it is alarming for older men to be baited by such scams. Grooming is still a thing so I think we cannot really expect these teens to know better in staying away from sex in the 1st place when older men are expected to be more mature and wiser than the ones they want to fuck.

Although, it is not my place to assume maturity and decency from older men so I also agree with op that it is scary. It's scary because even if I think op's point may be different to how I perceived the post, scheming/scamming is quite alarming. We wouldn't know how cunning people can be.

Because, I'm sorry, nobody actually falls for the 14 year old looking like she's eighteen. There's a massive difference between a girl just starting puberty, and an eighteen year old.

BUT... sixteen? Physically, there's not much difference between 16 and 18. So while I don't think it's okay for a 30 year old to seduce a 16 year old (regardless of gender), I can see where a 16 year old could trick a 30 year old into thinking they're 18.

So at that point, I think, if a 16 year old presents themselves as 18, it... see, I don't want to say it 'shouldn't count', but I think it's not the older person's fault at that point. Like, if they're lying about their age, it's not the older person's fault, but if the older person knows they're 16, it's still statutory, if that makes sense.
