I'm glad to see that the person who tore down that bullshit got more likes; hopefully it's a sign that gradually more people are waking up. No surprise though that the verified Twitter account is the one saying stupid bullshit

The last Tweet is especially on point. Another area where many feminists' claims about being for "equality" are clearly shown to be bullshit is in how selectively they fight for it. Selective equality is not equality. If they believe everyone in every profession should be paid equally, then they should be just as outraged about the model and porn star pay gap that disadvantages males

Charlotte Clymer certainly isn't waking up. Even after those responses two days ago pointed out that her argument makes no sense, she's making new posts just hours ago about how the men's teams get $8 million just for qualifying and the women get $2 million for winning.

On the bright side, all of the same responses are being posted once again in case any of her followers missed it the first time.

There's a kind of communist mentality where they think all money for anything should come from some sort of mega-government that controls everything, and dispensed according to their ideas of fairness as opposed to merit or productivity.

[–]kragshot 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She'll be screaming "harassment" in a couple of days and get those accounts banned.

I too believe the average person is slowly realizing what bullshit ‘feminism’ is. This had a considerable amount of upvotes on r/facepalm

[–]Humes-Bread 25 points26 points27 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Nah, I don't think so. It's just obvious that this individual argument from this women is stupid. Trying to extrapolate that as a proof that all of the feminism movement is bullshit is a bridge too far.

[–]tmone 30 points31 points32 points 8 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

not really. 85 percent of people refuse to label themselves feminist despite believing in equality between the sexes.

/u/lanceparth is arguing that the loud mouth (not a real fem) is really your typical fem. See karen straughn's amazing rebuttel of that argument here

and as a result of these radical everyday fems, people have woken up to what bullshit fem is. I mean, we are seeing a record amount of people right now refusing the label.

[–]UNLIKELYME 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nothing new here. She's advocating for the wage gap argument: people should be paid the same for the same or similar jobs regardless of how productive they are. If she wasn't, the would be strange for a Feminist. The "wage gap" is one of their core arguments/myths/propagandas.

[–]The__Tren__Train 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

facts generally don't matter to women when they have an opportunity to feel like victims.

I know that is an incredibly misogynist statement, but it has rang true in literally EVERY ONE of my conversations on this topic with women.

even the 'conservative-minded' ones felt like they had been cheated... even if it was just a little bit.

[–]WiseMonkeyGoodMonkey 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not even vaguely misogynistic. Misogyny is hatred of women. Calmly pointing out the obvious is only hatred in the tiny minds of the people we are discussing. Additionally not all feminists are female.

Don't prepend your statements this way. Because the worst this can possibly be is over generalizing.

[–]littlefilms 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They're only gonna say those professions objectify women as well as promoting unrealistic body standards for women... But at the same time ignoring the unrealistic 12 inch dick standard in porn.

[–]CptHammer_ 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think you might be misinformed about that porn pay gap. At least career wise men make far more than women. Mostly because men are paid to not only look good but also be reliable. Women make more sooner, but men age well.

That is unless you want to just say on average, then women make more because there are more women in porn than men (cause reliability). I don't count that because most jobs pay less the fisrt time out and for most that is also the last time out.

[–]Mode1961 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That is a very interesting point that over their career men might make more because they last longer (I think) the problem with this type of stat though is that people it would also be true if a female porn star made $1 million for one movie, lets say Brittany Spears does a full on porn movie and got $1 million dollars and some schmuck got $5000 a movie and did 200 movies meaning him and Brittany Spears made the same money in their career, but that is hardly fair.

It kinda comes down to the old adage that Warren Buffet and a homeless man enter a room and someone points out that the average net worth for the room is over $1 billion dollars.

[–]CptHammer_ 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The Warren Buffet analogy is what I feel like when I hear women make more in porn. Only on average. Let's focus on the porn stars (ones good enough to have an agent) there are just fewer male stars, supply and demand dictates (don't even pardon that pun) the male make more. A full blown production would probably see that male in a majority of scenes with several women. Women on the other hand age out much faster and their price demands less because of young competition.

I got kicked out of my Anthropology course when this argument was still hot because i told the professor she was wrong and explained this.

[–]FHlogin 134 points135 points136 points 8 years ago (41 children) | Copy Link

she told me that i was very incorrect and sexist. It was a bonus because there was a women soccer team member in the class and she thought she should chime in and ask "am i worth less than a man" to wich i said "according to the numbers, yes" which is when i got kicked out.

Keep in mind this professor also argued the wage gap using statistics from 94... which was 2 years before i was born. It was an interesting class and its always a good time when i see her on campus

They always try to conflate the two as a form of emotional manipulation, as if we hand out money to people based entirely on how much we value them as people as opposed to capitalism being a non-sentient system to be gamed.

The guts on this guy

[–]rawbface 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'll get downvoted for saying this, but she baited you and you fell into her trap.

You should have pointed out that no, she's not worth less, she deserves an equal portion of the revenue. That's gender equality. And the fact that men's Soccer generates more money is not discrimination.

She made the argument about herself and created a straw man.

[–]Eastuss 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well I don't have full context but the way you express yourself is important "you do not generate the revenue that justifies you to be paid equally to someone who generates more revenue", always stick the context to what you say, because dumb people will always immediately judge anything on the immediate observable context, which here is you saying a woman is worth less than a man.

[+]KalebMW99 -36 points-35 points-34 points 8 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

If you said "according to the numbers, yes" then you probably deserved to be kicked out. Nobody should be arguing that women are worth less than men because they bring in less revenue, just as nobody should be arguing it based on the fact that they get less pay if they bring in less revenue. Besides, isn't it worth mentioning that maybe it's a problem that men's soccer brings in so much more money than women's soccer? I get there's a skill gap, but I've watched both and they're both pretty entertaining, so maybe it's also worth arguing that promoting women's soccer (even if it requires revenue that women's soccer doesn't yet produce) is a valuable investment?

[–]Itisme12953 points 8 years ago [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

Except that's literally how capitalism works. Nobody is going to argue that the CEO of a small company should make as much as the CEO of Apple or Google.

In this world people aren't paid based on who they are. They're paid based on how much money they can make for a company. Women who play soccer are literally less valuable to a company than men who play soccer.

It has nothing to do with their worth as a person which is why trying to conflate gender and salary is almost always dumb.

[+]KalebMW99 -10 points-9 points-8 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Nobody is going to argue that the CEO of a small company should make as much as the CEO of Apple or Google.

I agree. Nobody should argue that. However, capitalism also suggests that a company may invest into a smaller company if it considers its business promising. Likewise, in the case of FIFA, it can generate revenue for itself from men's and women's soccer. Why not invest money into women's soccer to boost its earnings to produce more revenue for itself?

It has nothing to do with their worth as a person

The way his comment was understood, it absolutely did. Why? Because he was refuting a comment made by someone who was talking about worth as a person. Clearly, her argument has an issue in that personal worth is even mentioned. But his is even worse because it doesn't address her argument at all, or the obvious discrepancy in meaning of the word "worth" between the two.

In this world

Well, that statement requires that you be okay with how the world is right now. Which clearly isn't the case if you're subbed to r/MensRights.

[–]wrekd 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Um because FIFA is corrupt as fuck and they only want to appear to promote charity and investment. Really they just want to funnel more money up. If it seems like a deal that will net them more money, then they'll do it.

[–]666Evo 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why not invest money into women's soccer to boost its earnings to produce more revenue for itself?

Because they probably realise that nobody wants to watch women's sport.

[–]fonduman 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, clearly if you just put more money into it, money just springs back out from nowhere. /s

[–]Elephaux 26 points27 points28 points 8 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

Nobody should be arguing that women are worth less than men because they bring in less revenue

Why? It's obvious that "worth" in this context is "financial worth", so it's completely true.

[+]LilFunyunz -8 points-7 points-6 points 8 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

I dont think its obvious at all.

she could've been trying to broaden the scope of the discussion and been talking about herself as a person and not in terms of what kind of viewership revenue she can pull down for an organization as an athlete as a means to find out how far his opinion on women goes. Its not like everyone else will immediately understand a nuanced position from one comment he makes in class.

His answer was dickish and provoking a response like getting kicked out of class.

[–]scyth3s 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I dont think its obvious at all.

That would be because context is apparently difficult for you.

[–]LilFunyunz -4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

So much for civil discourse. Maybe you should read my post... Broadening a discussion would be contextually appropriate in the face of this guys claims and in the context of the conversation, is something totally reasonable and possible.

[–]Dancing_Anatolia -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

We can't argue with you because you fundamentally misunderstand the premise. Something something axioms.

[–]LilFunyunz 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Lol, thats a nice strawman, how about you refute something i said? Demonstrate that i am wrong? State your view of the situation? Any of that?

There is no debate here, just redirect and condemn. Its MAGA tactics. Be better than that.

[–]Dancing_Anatolia0 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Not everything that points out flaws in your argument is a strawman. It is extremely obvious from the context of the post that "Worth" in this situation is monetary value, not someone's worth as a person. You're using Equivocation, so your argument is essentially as valid as saying "If feathers are light, then barbells are dark". You don't understand the premise because you're not arguing the same word we are, you're arguing with a homonym.

So yes, if someone makes less money than someone else for any reason, they are worth less than their competitor. So the dude was perfectly right with his snappy comeback.

[–]LilFunyunz3 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No, im not doing that. I PERFECTLY UNDERSTAND what he was refering to. If you understood my post you would know that I wasn't questioning what he meant when he replied.

Lets pretend op's word is gospel on this story and everything went exactly as he said.

I am suggesting that THE GIRL who asked the question was not understanding that he was only refering to monetary value. Given the fucking CONTEXT that she asked such a question to begin with after a clear explanatiom from op. (ironic that im the one accused of not getting context)

It is likely that she was attempting "to broaden the scope of the discussion" (sounds familiar) to understand whether op is a mysogonist or if he was explaining a fact thats hard to swallow.

For him to still reply in context of monetary value is fine, but probably just creating confusion... Confusion that could have been avoided.

For him to be an ass about it is, again, dickish and unnecessary. He was rightly kicked out of that class. He could have still made his point and reinforced a notion that MRA's are not fuckwad alt-righters by not being a douche.

[–]Dancing_Anatolia2 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

She didn't "broaden" anything, she went completely off track, by conflating money with personal value. Perhaps I'm biased towards Churchill-like comebacks, but he was totally justified with his smartass remark.

[–]LilFunyunz3 points 8 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

[+]KalebMW99 -14 points-13 points-12 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

it's obvious that "worth" in this context is "financial worth"

Maybe you'd do better to look at someone else's argumentative terms in the context that they used it. The aforementioned girl clearly did not mean "financial worth", and an effective reply should address the meaning of the original claim. Surely you're not that tone deaf?

[–]Elephaux 21 points22 points23 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The post is about money paid to footballers. The "numbers" that OP referred to are obviously financial.

Pray tell, what other "numbers" do you think they were referring to, if not finances?

[–]KalebMW99 -4 points-3 points-2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The post

Was he talking to the post when he said "according to the numbers, yes"? No. He was replying to a girl who was talking about personal worth. As in implying that the financial numbers suggest that women are personally worth less.

[–]Elephaux 17 points18 points19 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

He was replying to a girl who was talking about personal worth

Source? My reading is that he presented a valid argument about the economics of sport that was disregarded, but still he was talking about economics. One would assume he wouldn't just pivot from an economic discussion to a personal one that quickly.

[–]fonduman 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She was the one trying to fallaciously conflate his claims about economic revenue with personal worth. If she wanted to make some sort of separate point linking the two, she should have explicitly made that point. Instead, she was trying to imply that that was his implication the whole time, whilst keeping the wording ambiguous enough to bait him. I don't see why people defend such obviously intellectually dishonest and lazy tactics.

[–]sociopathwithrice 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

His conversation was about the financial worth of the soccer players to the league in relation to their pay. Her bringing up personal worth is a red herring and an obvious attempt at being manipulative with language. I don't blame him for treating the person as exactly what they were. A disingenuous snake.

So, i have actually done a lot of research into this topic, especially so since i indirectly work for FIFA.

At a national level, the women almost have it better than the men. While the pure money for the mens team is "better" its important to keep in mind that the men ONLY get paid per game and the women get a SALARY from the national team. So if they make the squad once, even on the bench, they get a salary for the year. Even if they get injured or pregnant. The USSF also pays the NWSL salaries and is the only reason the womens league really has not yet folded AGAIN. Also, if im not mistaken, they also get full health insurance from the NT.

It's also funny to highlight the fact that there are 3 totally different salaries at the WNT level (72k, 51k, 36k) If equality is such an issue, why are they not campaigning that those on the lower end of the salary get more?

Napkin math:

2/73 = 2.7% of revenue

16/4800 = 0.33% of revenue

2.7/.33 = 8

So the winning womens team got 8x the revenue share of the mens losing team. Make of that what you will.

[–]Grasshopper21 64 points65 points66 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That math checks out completely, because this was a quarterfinal loser. top 8 gets 1/8th pay of the winner. I'm fine with that sliding scale.

[–]32BitWhore 23 points24 points25 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Estimated payout for the winning team is 38m, which means the men earn ~0.8% of the total revenue. The winning women are earning over 3x what the winning men are if we're solely basing it off of revenue. I think this math is far more important than looking at the losing men's teams. Who's privileged again?

[–]Grasshopper21 18 points19 points20 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

it gets waaaayyyy worse when you go up the scale though. This time around winners get 38 million. or still less than 1% of the revenue generated.

As a female athlete, this complaint always bugged me too. Like bro I don’t even want to watch the women play, they just aren’t as exciting as the men. And if even other female athletes aren’t gonna pay for it then who the hell is? Why should they make as much, they aren’t providing the same product as the men (i.e high quality entertainment)?

[–]lanceparth 29 points30 points31 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You’re exactly right. I had a former WNBA player speak at my school last year. I really wish I asked her for her take on it.

[–]Eastuss 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Making the game gender separated is already a privilege for women. If women had to compete with men, they would never achieve to be professional, except for some rare individuals so talented they can make it up for their physical handicap.

We can see it happen in e-sport, there's no physical requirement, yet there are no women. (ATM the lack of women into it might be the biggest factor tho).

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Nothing to do with the harassment women face, of course? Like c'mon.

[–]Eastuss 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

What are you talking about? You think somehow not playing with men will prevent men from interacting with women or harassing them?

You think a javelin thrower is going to train at different times than her male equivalent? You think this will change anything to the harassment that she competes with men or not? I don't get your point.

If the motive for all this is the fear for women to be harassed, let's have EVERYTHING unmixed: schools, works, even cities. Let's prevent men and women from interacting, some of the women can be mildly uncomfortable! :o

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=harassment+in+esports

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In all seriousness though, one of my close friends is an ex-professional gamer. He's gay so he never gave a shit, but he says that women would usually either not talk, buy a voice changer to sound male, or leave because they got harassed. People do dumb shit to the character when they know the gamer is a woman, and it makes the game less fun.

For the record, I agree that in most cases gender segregation in sports favours women because yeah, women are on average physically smaller and have a tougher time building muscle than men. I just think the esports thing is mostly harassment culture.

[–]Eastuss -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

...

Everyone with a little bit of fame is harassed on internet, women are sexually harassed, men are harassed but not sexually. Any remotely known youtuber has been vocal about it, men and women. Articles about gamer girl who receive online harass is not an obvious gendered issue.

What makes female gamers any different? What makes it impossible for female gamers to be paid to play? Was there attempts in gaming houses and the women were harassed IRL by their team mates or something? This is what I want to know.

From a strategic perspective, Title 9 has given the US a massive advantage when it comes to women's sports advantage on the international stage. It may not be "right" when it comes to gender equality in our own country but it has brought the medals home because other countries have lagged. Money isn't everything when it comes to sports.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Not sure I follow?

[–]galloog1 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I personally think there is value in winning on an international stage. If others are not investing in their women it is an opportunity for us to.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

eh, I always played sports for fun, not fame. I personally don't see much value in winning on an international stage, as you put it. After all, the success of athletes from my country has little more impact on my life, or my life on theirs, than athletes from any other country. I'm just happy when people are really great at a thing, and it's fun to watch.

[–]hatefulreason 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

sometimes women's football is funnier. some countries have 1 or 2 players that really work hard and you can see them sweat like crazy and commit a lot of fouls, couple that with the ones that miss the ball or shoot way off and a biiiig bucket of popcorn and you got yourself a fantastic night in

[–]fonduman 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The entire world watches the men's world cup. I watch it even though the Netherlands didn't qualify.

Women's world cup? Never watched it before. I might watch it since Netherlands did so well in the European cup but even then I'll only watch our own team since the matches are less interesting.

The title of your post does not say enough about its subject. This forces people to click and read before they can decide whether they are interested. It also makes searching impossible.

If everyone did this, the subreddit would become unusable.

So please don't do it. Take the time to describe your link, and save the time of hundreds of other people.

When making a title, it's best to assume the reader doesn't know what you're talking about - but don't go overboard with every detail. Then check if there are any words you can cut out without losing any important information.

If you’re into sports, how these contracts are negotiated and developed is pretty interesting. It doesn’t do much for the equal rights crusade to call it an issue of how the contracts are negotiated, but it’s an interesting read:

Why couldn't they use the men's payday for 2014 to match the women's payday for context? I guess the 2018 must be substantially more than last World Cup.

[–]lanceparth 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think you’re on to something. Even though ratings are for sure stagnant among the women I bet the payout for winning has gone up due to the so called ‘feminists’
