once you realize that the goal has never been eqaulity, it becomes clear

[–]zer0t3ch 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

The goal used to be equality, you'd be remiss to think otherwise.

There was a day that females were greatly looked down upon, with few rights and less respect. Feminism was needed for the sake of equality. Now that they have equality (and quite a bit of advantages) Feminism is now pointless and no longer about equality.

Depressingly true.

[–]WaitingToBeBanned 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Assuming that your observation is correct, that still means that Feminism has been defunct for the better part of a century.

[–]zer0t3ch 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It has been, I agree.

An inability to vote is not a disadvantage?

[–]Demonspawn -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Nope. It wasn't a disadvantage, it was a trade.

It was a right not granted because they didn't have the responsibility which corresponded to it.

It's men who are now disadvantaged because women got the right without the responsibility while men are still beholden to the responsibility.

[–]zer0t3ch 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

There's no such thing as a "trade" in legal responsibilities and privileges. There's no direct correlation between the right to vote and any responsibilities.

[–]Demonspawn -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There's no such thing as a "trade" in legal responsibilities and privileges.

Yes there is. The biggest anti-suffragette movement was comprised of women... women who didn't want to face conscription. They recognized the historical link between suffrage and conscription, as WWI had just ended and it was plainly obvious.

There's no direct correlation between the right to vote and any responsibilities.

The SCotUS disagrees.

[–]Mens-Advocate 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The biggest anti-suffragette movement was comprised of women... women who didn't want to face conscription. They recognized the historical link between suffrage and conscription, as WWI had just ended and it was plainly obvious.

I have often used this argument myself - women took a while to realise they could have the privilege of the vote without the responsibilities (conscription, dangerous labour, etc). Would you have a link to references?

[–]Demonspawn 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can't remember where I read that particular fact (that the largest group was a women's group) but wikipedia doesn't shy away from admitting that there were a lot of women in the anti-suffrage movements.

[–]Mackowatosc 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

There was a day that females were greatly looked down upon,

For good reason. You need to EARN respect, not demand it.

[–]zer0t3ch 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Try telling that to most men. Even as a man, 8 realize most men believe they deserve respect despite doing naught to earn it.

[–]Mackowatosc 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Never said that men do not do that.

Also, no, the feminism goal was never equality, it was more rights / benefits for pussy owners. Nothing more, nothing less. Naming something "for equality" does not mean its being done for equality. Let the actions and consequences speak for the name.

[–]Pillow50 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Eh, not really a good reason. They were just viewed as the lesser sex some time ago.

Earning respect is an understandable sentiment, but not respecting someone solely for being a woman isn't.

[–]Demonspawn -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminism is now pointless and no longer about equality.

Nope. Feminism was never an equality movement.

First wave feminism was about getting men's rights, but rejected men's responsibilities.

Second wave was about reducing women's responsibilities to society.

Third wave is about increasing men's responsibility to women.

[–]l2ka 82 points83 points84 points 10 years ago (50 children) | Copy Link

I noticed a particularly aggravating discussion in the Facebook comments section. I was nearly convinced the "woman" defending "feminism" was troll due to the repetitive and outlandish nature of her comments. Turns out, after a simple search, she is real & actually a college professor. Anyhow, here it is...

She and Tocqueville obviously does/did not not understand what feminism is or what feminists have fought (for and against) for so long. It's not about erasing anything, it's simply about equality.

NO. Feminists want to ban men spreading legs on public transportation. Feminists want to censor internet comments that make girls feel bad. Feminists clain [sic] all men are rapists and ignore the rapant [sic] paring of teen boys by women teachers. Feminists claim men commit all domestic violence..... an on and on... Read the news.

You have a very perverted view of what feminism is about. You need to stop paying attention to the nonsense mass media is spoon feeding to you and do some real research and talk to some feminists. You paint with a vary broad and inaccurate brush. I can't help but note that it's primarily men having a problem with this concept and getting all bent out of shape. They fear something will be taken away from them. Don't worry boys, we don't want anything you have except the same rights.

YOU HAVE ALL THE RIGHTS MEN HAVE! In the USA you can do and be what you want. I study feminism and live with three gender studies feminists. Feminists paint men with the broad brush as rapists, women beaters and war mongers. Feminists find every reason to show male nature is the blame for all women's problems. Rape Culture, Patriarchy and masculinities. Women have SPECIAL rights that men do not have in the USA. Women can hit a man and not get jailed. Women get much lower jail sentences for the SAME crime. Women have afirmative action. A goverment [sic] fund of 800 million dollars a year goes to rape and sexual assault against women. White women in America are privileged. Women are pampered by men (if she likes men). Women do not pay on a date. What are you talking about? Men and women age 21 to 34, Men earn 9% LESS than women. The wage gap is a serious lie! Women are coddled by society if they cry. Women and children first. Women do not have to fight in wars and get injured or die. Women do not work in high risk or dirty jobs. SERIOUSLY? What rights are you talking about? Men have supported women emotionally, physically and financially since the start of time. FINALLY women can do it all without a man.

You apparently want to be able to hit a woman with impunity. No one should be allowed to hit anyone with impunity. Rape and sexual assault are crimes, and many men are victims of sex crimes as well; why do you think sex crimes should should not be prosecuted/prevented? Some white women are indeed privileged, but nearly all white men are privileged. I cannot speak to the total absurdity of your assertation about women "who like men" being pampered. You obviously have been dating the wrong women if you have had none pay their way (and yours) on a date. I suggest you try dating a feminist if that's what you want. But if you do, I suggest you refrain from mansplaining the way you did here!

There was more of course, but the dialog between these two was the worst. There is clearly no reasoning with someone like this. The unfounded loaded questions probably pissed me off the most.

[–]ShalamiTsunami 100 points101 points102 points 10 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

Notice how she lies about what hes saying in an attempt to discredit him. Classic, ridiculous feminist tactic that we've seen over and over.

He says "women can hit a man and not get jailed" She twists it into "you want to be able to hit a woman with impunity"

He says "women get much lower jail sentences" She twists it into "why don't you think sex crimes should be prosecuted?"

Then of course she busts out the tired old "mansplaining" card. According to most feminists, mansplaining is a term for men explaining things they know nothing about to a woman in a condescending way. This feminist's comments show how the word is almost always used: as a way of shutting down a man's opinions that they don't like.

[–]JackBond1234 19 points20 points21 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't worry boys we don't want anything you have

...

Refrain from mansplaining

[–]SigmundFloyd76 28 points29 points30 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just an aside, but the original definition of "mansplaining" was actually more rigid than what the feminists use today.

It was supposed to describe when menz explain something to a woman in a condescending manner but the woman already knows more about the topic. It was supposed to highlight menz assumption that woman know nothing.

It's morphed into any explanation from any man now.

It's a conversation stopper. Like deadbeat dad, rape apologist, wife beater, etc etc.

It's a common PR tactic.

Good comment.

Except on closer examination thats not true, we support egalitarian ideals for both men and women. The opposite is true of feminism, despite what it says.

And that's exactly what feminists say about MRA's, too.

You do realize that saying something on its own doesn't make it true right?

[–]EgoandDesire 17 points18 points19 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I dont give a crap what they say about us. The TRUTH that anyone can find out for themselves by coming here, is that we support egalitarian ideals. The TRUTH of feminism, that anyone can find out by seeing their daily behavior, and reading blogs, articles, youtube videos, tumblr etc. is that feminism is largely a sexist ideology with zero interest in mens issues. That's a fact.

[+][deleted] 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]EgoandDesire 21 points22 points23 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What delusions? I'm basing my observations on actual real world behavior. Look, I used to support feminism, because I was fine with the idea that women were being discriminated against and deserved a leg up. Now, after seeing with my own eyes, the actual behavior and ideas of actual feminists, I see the truth of blatant hypocritical sexism. If a feminist comes forth and actually talks equality, I'll support her, but I am NOT seeing that.

[–]marauderp 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminists say a lot of things about a lot of topics.

Few of the things they say have any basis in reality.

[–]Mackowatosc 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So, those "different views" should drop the extremists in their midst. If not, they are guilty of enabling. Guilty. Next please.

Not really, It's possible to be for women's rights and gender neutral.

It's just rare with our already toxic society.

[–]RubixCubeDonut 13 points14 points15 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Feminism isn't synonymous with women's rights. It's a belief in the nature of inequality.

[–]Mackowatosc 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Feminism is not about rights, is about wants.

[–]SuperPwnerGuy 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes, It's a movement that began with the suffrage movement.

I'm just stating that once upon a time, It was possible to be a feminist without being considered a sexist.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It was possible to be a feminist without being considered a sexist.

If you consider narratives about male privilege and female oppression to be fundamental to feminism, then no, it is impossible to be a feminist and not also a sexist.

[–]Mackowatosc 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Same shit, different name.

[–]zen_affleck 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What's funny here is, she's admitting that the position that women have is not and should not be the default position, in other words she's admitting that women have privilege when it comes to the law. She can't fathom punishing women more, because that wouldn't be giving women privilege, so she so she can only infer that he's arguing that men should have that same privilege, which would technically be equality. So presented with two potential paths to equality, in fact the only two potential paths to equality in this situation, she rejects both of them without any thought or consideration. For her female privilege is the status quo and equality is a disadvantage for women.

[–]Terapia_Tapioco 29 points30 points31 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You apparently want to be able to hit a woman with impunity.

Which was not what he was saying or even implying.

No one should be allowed to hit anyone with impunity.

Yes, exactly.

why do you think sex crimes should should not be prosecuted/prevented?

Again, where did he say something like that? Is she for real?

I suggest you refrain from mansplaining the way you did here!

So basically "date a feminist and STFU". Ok, then...

[–]Mackowatosc 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No one should be allowed to hit anyone with impunity.

This depends on a situation. If I hit a woman in self-defence, I'd really wish not to be punished for that :P

[–]lostapwbm 22 points23 points24 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You have a very perverted view of what feminism is about. You need to stop paying attention to the nonsense mass media is spoon feeding to you and do some real research and talk to some feminists. This called naked gainsaying. You'd think a college professor would be slightly better at discourse, especially when they have the time and resources to form a counterargument.

You apparently want to be able to hit a woman with impunity.

Strawman argument.

why do you think sex crimes should should not be prosecuted/prevented?

Strawman #2.

I cannot speak to the total absurdity of your assertation about women "who like men" being pampered.

Handwaving.

You obviously have been dating the wrong women if you have had none pay their way (and yours) on a date.

Begging the question. Ad hominem. Appeal to authority (you lack sufficient authority to speak on the topic since you lack the requisite experience of women paying your way on dates).

I suggest you try dating a feminist if that's what you want.

Begging the question (assumes that any/all feminist pay for dates).

But if you do, I suggest you refrain from mansplaining the way you did here!

Really, bitch? Really?

[–]l2ka 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I saw almost exactly the same thing. One logical fallacy after another. No substance, just one tactic after another trying to make their view sound correct. I can tolerate conflicting points of view or honesty about intent for an opposing side, but this type of thing in this quantity, is the lowest form of human communication. In this case, it is extra aggravating to even read for a few key reasons...

  • This person is not a troll and actually believes these arguments are sound. Said person is a fully educated adult as well.
  • This person is actually given educational authority over others and is paid for it. Which means those below her are being taught her tactics are acceptable.
  • The current popular narrative supports her statements enough that this will largely go unchallenged, particularly by her equals and superiors.

[–]HoundWalker 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"do some real research and talk to some feminists"

I'm sure the feminists in question would enjoy that

[–]Clockw0rk 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was nearly convinced the "woman" defending "feminism" was troll

This is exactly how things got to this point.

Extremists began doing crazy shit, and instead of being stopped, people said "oh, you can't be serious" and let them get away with it.

[–]RedGrobo 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

People need to stop engaging with "Professors." like that, just simply and politely break down their falsified sources.

[–]EgoandDesire 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I disagree. Providing rational arguments to their bullshit and watching them get triggered is always a pleasure and should happen more

[–]marcm6246 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No one should be allowed to hit anyone with impunity.

Then shouldn't she be campaigning against that? Of course not, that would be giving men equality too.

[–]Mackowatosc 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I suggest you try dating a feminist

Lol, great citation :D I, for one, if I hear shes a feminist before date, there will be no date. Just in case. I prefer to have less problems in life, not more.

[+]harryballsagna -9 points-8 points-7 points 10 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link

The anti-feminist is seething and frothing and doesn't appear logical at all. The feminist does. I disagree with her overall viewpoint, but she comes across as the far more reasonable of the two.

Edit: toe the line or get downvotes. Lol

[–]EgoandDesire 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

His arguments were very logical, her's weren't, yet you're saying the opposite because he appeared to be "seething and frothing"? That's retarded

[–]SpiritofJames 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Pretty much the whole of Academia runs on rhetorical ploys

[–]harryballsagna -3 points-2 points-1 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It's interesting that you're flinging around the word "retarded" when you're clearly unable to read my comment. Perhaps you should acquaint yourself with the word "appear" and reread my comment.

[–]dork_souls 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Well can you explain why he's the illogical one? Can you quote the conversation to show where she is being sensible because I can't see it?

[–]harryballsagna -3 points-2 points-1 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Come on.

The anti-feminist is seething and frothing and doesn't appear logical at all. The feminist does (appear logical).

I disagree with her overall viewpoint, but she comes across as the far more reasonable of the two.

I don't know how I can more unambiguously say that I disagree with her, but she appears more rational than he does.

I know I'm getting downvoted for interrupting the circlejerk, but it would be great, if only for your own benefits, if you learned how to read.

[–]dork_souls 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't know how I can more unambiguously say that I disagree with her, but she appears more rational than he does.

But how? How does she appear more reasonable? I'm asking because I don't see it and you're claiming this is the case. It's not 'going against the circlejerk' or whatever shite you want to say. I'm asking a simple question for you to clarify how you reached a conclusion.

Also, I never asked if you agreed with her. I asked why you claimed he was the illogical one. I didn't see him 'seething and frothing' and I think you're just trying to be a contrarian.

I know I'm getting downvoted for interrupting the circlejerk, but it would be great, if only for your own benefits, if you learned how to read.

Very pedantic. I read what you said, it was a meaningless statement, I asked you to justify how you reached the conclusion. Now you cry about downvotes, so never mind.

[–]harryballsagna -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

I asked why you claimed he was the illogical one

You still don't understand. There is a very plain theme in my comments that revolve around perception. That's why I used "appear" multiple times. I chose my words to succinctly communicate what I meant. If you fail to grasp it, that's on you.

I never claimed he was illogical. I went on to say that I disagree with her overall point. How could I side with someone whom I disagree with?

Arguments can have a logical victor and a perceptual one. She won the debate perceptually by appearing calmer and more collected than her opponent.

Do you understand this? If you understand the distinction I'm making, I'll give you examples. If you can't grasp what I'm saying, then combing for quotes to convince you would be a waste of time.

[–]dork_souls 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I chose my words to succinctly communicate what I meant. If you fail to grasp it, that's on you.

Oh, yeah, definitely must be me when you keep skipping about the point.

I asked for a quote to clarify why you think she appeared calmer and more collected because I don't agree. She was illogical throughout the argument by extrapolating what he said into an entirely different point, or twisting his words to otherwise present him as irrational.

I will provide an example, though:

You apparently want to be able to hit a woman with impunity. No one should be allowed to hit anyone with impunity. Rape and sexual assault are crimes, and many men are victims of sex crimes as well; why do you think sex crimes should should not be prosecuted/prevented?

She took what he said about men not being supported in gendered violence and twisted it to make him seem like he wants to beat women. How is that logical?

How could I side with someone whom I disagree with?

I didn't ask who you sided with. For someone who chooses their words so succinctly that it should never be misconstrued, you're certainly misreading what I said on purpose. Again, I asked what she did to appear more reasonable.

She won the debate perceptually by appearing calmer and more collected than her opponent.

Well, no. You don't "win the debate" with calmness. She used logical fallacies and misrepresenting her opponent to twist the debate, so she is perceived to be manipulating the conversation and his statements. Again, I've tried to explain to you why I think you're wrong. All you do is complain and try to be pedantic.

Do you understand this? If you understand the distinction I'm making, I'll give you examples. If you can't grasp what I'm saying, then combing for quotes to convince you would be a waste of time.

The distinction you're making is meaningless. She may have appeared logical if you didn't read what was actually said, but I'm asking about actual content from their discussion. I'm not looking at whether he typed in capital letters and how that condemns him as 'seething and frothing', because that is subjective. You haven't provided any reasoning for why you come to this conclusion.

If you don't want to be pressed into backing up your points, don't make them. I disagree with your assertion that her "appearing calmer" has any bearing on her "appearing rational". She doesn't appear rational when he brings up being painted as a rapist by feminists, and she responds with the extreme " why do you think sex crimes should should not be prosecuted/prevented" as a response. Maybe if you don't read the actual content of the debate you might see her as rational, but her argument is very much irrational.

This is very close to being just another "women are really oppressed but if we don't go back to a time where women are provided for, protected and catered to by men, then women are even more oppressed" piece. It's anti-feminism out of personal self-interest, entitlement and/or hedonism by women, rather than a genuinely egalitarian perspective. It is simply this "I would rather be passive and demand that men take charge, because I don't want to take charge or date a passive man" sentiment that some women favor and then try to support by twisting facts.

I upvoted this, and I'm going to explain why.

Feminism has already remade "the family unit", it's just been very covert about it.

Time was, you needed two parents to raise a child, and those two parents were traditionally a father and mother. Regardless of gender roles, the two parent household with parents of both genders provided a solid foundation for the acclamation of a child into society. Having a male and female parent introduces the psychology of both genders to an adolecent child and prepares them for interaction with strangers in the real world. Having two parents, in a functioning economy, also allows enough time for the parents to work and raise the child(ren).

But at some point, Feminism seized the narrative. There developed a cult of motherhood, a shift in mentality that women are they primary care givers of children and indeed that fathers were optional. There was a very deliberate campaign that attacked the idea that single parent households are less-capable than two parent households, and indeed, it extended into the narrative that "single mom" is a positive, wonderful lifestyle.

Despite evidence which clearly indicates the children of single parent households are more likely to result in mental health disorders, Feminism's unflinching gynocentrism demands that Women are Wonderful and men are optional. From continued assaults on father's rights in custody battles, to initiatives to ensure women are allowed to adopt on their own and conceive with the use of sperm banks, Feminism has been fighting for the "one mother, optional father" household for decades.

Feminism fights against men and children to enshrine the "sacred" role of the mother. They have placed womanhood above parenthood, and countless families have suffered as a result.

[–]CornyHoosier 29 points30 points31 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I'm the product of a single (feminist) mother. While I ended up being (imo) successful, despite growing up poor and from a tiny town, there were some massive gaps in my knowledge on the interaction between men and women.

I'm going to use romance as an example. There is no way a mother can teach her son how to romantically interact with a woman. A woman is unable to teach her son non-verbal and verbal cues on how to attract a woman. Do you think the average mother is going to explain how to clean your penis and testicles or the how/what/when/etc of condoms? Does the average woman tell her son how to check for testicular cancer or how jock straps work or anything about erections or male urges as a teenager?

I didn't even kiss a woman until I was 24 because I didn't know how to atract a mate and do that to her. I ended up saying enough was enough and started researching men who were successful with women. I stumbled onto some forums here on Reddit (the forums that cannot-be-named) which helped me better understand male and female nature from a male perspective.

I'm 30 and have great interactions with women (romantically) and now know better how to socially interact with both sexes. This knowledge is learned verbally and through watching/listening. Not having a stable male relationship growing up definitely stunted my overall growth and it took me years to figure out.

[–]Clockw0rk 14 points15 points16 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm in the same situation. The years are a little different, but the end result was the same. You're missing half of the equation of what makes a successful human being.

Elevation of the single parent household is absolutely poisonous to raising healthy, well balanced, intelligent children.

The people who have tried to shove developmental child psychology under the rug in order to push this "good parenting is instinctual" bullshit have outright ruined lives.

And I'm not anti-homosexual parents. I think you can absolutely socialize kids so they get the exposure they need to concepts and people outside of their household. But the single parent in particular doesn't have time to do that, certainly not in this economy.

We used to have a scientific interest in what made happy, healthy human beings over the course of growing up. The cult of trendy parenthood, and specifically "super moms", seems to have become more important than whether or not kids are getting what they need to be functional adults by age 18.

This is even more true if you consider how little a public education certificate counts for these days.

We, as a society, are dooming our children.

[–]disposablefleshy 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I feel like I have to chime in because I had a similar experience, except that my parents were married. But they were a part of that feminist movement that had a legitimate fight on their hands back in the day. But my dad, like many men, is a less-words-more-doing man, and felt pressured to go along with the feminist fantasy in public. It meant that I was raised similarly to you guys, but in hindsight, I can see how my father tried to quietly show us what was up without rocking the boat. Sadly, we didn't get the picture until after our divorces.

Jesus Christ. You are that fatherless guy my husband always posits as the person who needs to have a terper phase so he doesn't end up (in 99% of cases) isolated and unhappy or (in 1% of cases) actively dangerous in some way.

I'm sorry you didn't get what you needed when you were growing up. I'm glad you're happy now. Frankly, that hygiene and contraception and urge stuff is not an esoteric male mystery, and your mom should have done a better job with it or enlisted a male relative to take point.

[–]_swag_yolo_ 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Single women are incapable of doing the job of raising men. They only know how to raise boys. What a shock when there are a society of boys.

[–]chavelah 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't really disagree - but cock-washing? That one, I could teach. Contraception? Ditto. Sexual urges? I have them myself, I could at least try and ask my father and my brother to help.

[–]CornyHoosier 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You can teach it, but that doesn't make it effective. Teenagers will usually shut down mentally when approaching an embarrassing topic, especially if it's a boy talking with his mother. I've yet to hear of a teenage boy that wants to talk about the female vagina with his dad, let alone his mom. I've yet to see a teenager bring up that something could be wrong with his testicles, but he doesn't know and is too shy to bring it up with his mom.

Again, I was an only child to a single mother and my grandfather died when I was a pre-teen. Even the occasional male role model that did pop up in my life, teenage awkwardness usually kicked in.

Man: "How are things going?"

Me: "Good."

Man: "Nothing is wrong?"

Me: "No."

Man: "You'll let me know."

Me: "Sure."

...Which was the root cause of the problem. I didn't know what was wrong so I would have had no way to tell anyone.

I love my mother to death and being an only child to a single mother, we have a crazy-close bond at times. However, there are just some thing men know about men and things that women know about women that is not transferable, even with book/theory knowledge and the willingness to be open and verbal.

Same. I begged for years to get a male babysitter. Someone I could play catch with or learn guy stuff from because the house was all female except me. I grew up learning guy stuff the hard way, being bullied and whatnot for not knowing something or doing something wrong. I remember the embarrassment of going to homecoming and not knowing how to tie a tie so I had to ask a stranger. Or not knowing to tuck my 12 year old boner into my waste line. My mom did try though. We posted signs looking for male babysitters at local colleges but the whole world thinks any male that would take care of kids is a pedophile so we never got any responses. I missed out on so much stuff and had to learn simple things the hard way. Thanks feminism.

[+]willmaster123 -16 points-15 points-14 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

But when I do, everyone seems to say "oh well thats not really sexism" or "your just a SJW"

Nobody here flat out says I HATE WOMENS RIGHTS!, but instead its more subtle things like not believing rape survivors, saying that men are more oppressed than women (even in the third world...), saying that womens issues aren't 'actually that bad' etc. etc.

The worst is that many men here will flat out refuse to admit that woman DO face problems, and whenever a womans problem is brought up, its downvoted or thrown to the side by some bullshit argument about how men actually face that worse.

I remember there was a thing about how a girl was being catcalled by her colleagues and basically everyone here was saying how she should just deal with it. It wasn't rape or murder, it was just cat calling, but still, that's a perfect example of what I'm talking about.

I think mensrights are important hence why I still follow you guys, but holy shit the amount of right wing fester-shit in this subreddit makes me wanna vomit sometimes. Also, fuck Return of Kings. I've seen that shit upvoted left and right here.

[–]EgoandDesire 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

like not believing rape survivors,

What people actually say here is "Trust but verify" because women are human beings who sometimes lie, thus we are treating them like equals.

saying that men are more oppressed than women

Nobody says this because no one here gives a shit about the Oppression Olympics. Also, being discriminated against in certain ways is not the same as being oppressed.

saying that womens issues aren't 'actually that bad'

Most of the things feminists complain about are either not bad at all or just plain dont exist. Manspreading, rape culture, wage gap, objectification, microaggressions, etc. These things aren't womens rights, they're nonsense.

The worst is that many men here will flat out refuse to admit that woman DO face problems, and whenever a womans problem is brought up, its downvoted or thrown to the side by some bullshit argument about how men actually face that worse.

Absolutely does not happen and I bet you cant find a single example of this ever happening on this sub.

I remember there was a thing about how a girl was being catcalled by her colleagues and basically everyone here was saying how she should just deal with it.

I need context before I can comment on this. However, most people here agree catcalling is rude at best.

but holy shit the amount of right wing fester-shit in this subreddit makes me wanna vomit

Grow up. We're allowed to discuss whatever the hell we want here, even something that might offend your childish sensibilities. If you don't like something, offer a counter-argument, cuz throwing a tantrum like you are doing here is pointless.

[+]willmaster123 -19 points-18 points-17 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

"Absolutely does not happen and I bet you cant find a single example of this ever happening on this sub."

Its happening literally right now. You don't have to be a SJW feminist whatever to find what you're saying to be pretty dismissive of womens issues. You think rape culture (depending on what you mean by that) doesn't exist? You think objectification of woman doesn't exist? What the fuck is wrong with you? You can fight for mens rights without completely dismissing womans problems, but apparently most of what guys like to do here instead is cry and complain about woman and feminism.

And whenever you say "What people actually say here" or "Nobody says this" who are you talking about? This sub isn't one person, its tens of thousands of people. I've seen people say that stuff a lot, like a LOT a lot. Maybe you don't notice it as much but I do, and the worst part is that when it is called out on (rarely), there's a million people there to defend the guys opinion.

Again, this shit is basically a mirror image of crazy feminism. You guys can discuss whatever you like and thats fine, I'm not telling you you can't, but its kind of pathetic how high and mighty you guys act when really the majority of this sub is just shitting on feminism.

[–]EgoandDesire 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Rape culture is overblown and does not exist and "objectification" is a nebulous term with no real provable ramifications. I stand by that.

Again, this shit is basically a mirror image of crazy feminism.

It's really not. Nothing here even comes close to matching the batshit lunacy of modern feminism, certainly not disagreeing with shitty feminist concepts. You keep getting triggered, though

[–]willmaster123 -3 points-2 points-1 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"You keep getting triggered, though"

There we go! Right to the SJW accusation the second I say something you don't agree with. Remind you of anything? Like when SJW call you a racist or sexist for expressing your opinion?

Rape Culture doesn't exist? Maybe not to the full extent crazy feminists say it does, but I know a ton of girls who have been sexually assaulted/raped and don't report it for fears that they won't be believed, mostly because the girls who do report it almost never see justice and are hated by their friends for it. Maybe in your presumably white suburban community this doesn't happen, but where I am from rape and sexual assault is really, really common. You report a guy for it, all of his friends and their friends hate you all of the sudden.

Not to mention girls still get raped and all the time people question what she was wearing or what she was doing that allowed it to happen. You may not see this, because again, you presumably live in an educated, mostly civilized society, but much of the world is not like that. Hell, go to any inner city or white trash shithole in America and you will find that attitude.

And yes, women are not treated as fairly as men in many situations. They are simply not taken as seriously, they're talked over, their work isn't as 'credible' as guys work. I work in journalism, and most of the girls in our office are sent to do shit on fucking womens clothes or cutesy events like dog shows, while the guys are sent out to do reports on crime and murder and all that stuff. I know my boss doesn't take women seriously at all, he's an old school guy and pretty much everyone on his team is guys. The only women he talks to at the workplace are the two he works (out of maybe 15 people) with and the secretaries. Of course this is mostly anecdote, but there are major, major studies on this about how womens opinions, especially in the workplace, are not taken as seriously as mens.

The wage gap is mostly a myth I will admit, its because of womans choice, but there is also a problem there that women are almost always chosen to not work and raise kids instead of men. That's a problem for both men and women.

Still, what your basically saying is that ALL of modern feminism is bad when that's simply not true. But of course, this is /r/mensrights, where all the guys seem to care about is complaining about feminism while simultaneously acting exactly like the people they complain about.

But to be fair, and to extend the branch of friendship... What evidence do you have that this sub support RoK?

[+]Bebbykhan -6 points-5 points-4 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I don't see how I'm backtracking and where your analysis of one word gets you. Do you have a qualification in English or are you just trying to berate me for disagreeing with you?

I was taught that for example "I'm coming to get you" and "I'll come and get you" have the same meaning outside of the temporal aspect. The and in this case is conjunctive. To illustrate this further, the phrase "nice and clean" translates to "schön sauber" in my first language and does not literally refer to something that is nice and clean but means nicely clean. This seems to indicate that both adjectives in this case do not exist independently but influence one another.

In case you still somehow find fault with my stance and you think I am somehow a troll sent to conspire against this sub, this is the thread I was talking about. As far as I am aware I am still the most downvoted comment for simply pointing out that Return Of Kings is unethical as fuck and should only have mirrors posted to this sub. If this doesn't shed the users of this sub that think financially supporting ROK is acceptable and engage in mass downvoting in a bad light, then OP and I are clearly correct in our criticism.

I'm trying to take you at your word. It's really the only thing I can do, since I don't know you personally, and we aren't speaking in person.

I was taught that for example "I'm coming to get you" and "I'll come and get you" have the same meaning outside of the temporal aspect.

Those phrases, yes. The one that you used earlier, no. They are different, and that's a bad example that you used. What you said earlier, is a list. You separate listed items with a comma. Commas are useful.

As far as I am aware I am still the most downvoted comment for simply pointing out that Return Of Kings is unethical as fuck and should only have mirrors posted to this sub.

This is what you said in your comment chian...

Does this mean r/mensrights condones other stuff that's on that site as well now?

You have made posts that linked to IndieGoGo. Does that mean that you support all the scammers that use that site to make money?

You've also linked to 9news.com.au... Does that mean that you support some of the content on there that is Islamaphobic, or misogynist?

You've linked directly to Imgur. Does that mean that you support the child porn that periodically gets uploaded there? Do you support the creeper upskirt shots, the ex revenge nude pics, etc?

You're committing an ad hominem, by attacking the source, instead of the specific content linked. If the article is good, it deserves to get views simply because the site will recognize that they can make more money with good content.

[–]Bebbykhan 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I commented more than once in that thread. I was continuously downvoted for making the point that financial support should not go to someone with views like "rape should be legalized" or "women are all inferior to men". I don't see how being conscious of the fact that hits generate income is an ad hominem. By linking straight to the site, it creates the impression that the source is acceptable. However, if this sub did find those views abhorrent, then the average redditor should be able to recognise that mirrors should be used in order to avoid actually financing this guy.

There is nothing wrong with that view and I completely agree with OP when he or she pointed out that this sub can't handle the slightest support for women. If using mirrors for ROK is such a touchy topic for this sub, then that proves our point.

[–]ametalshard 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

that the genders will naturally mix together and we become a post-birth species. technological singularity and such

[–]Mackowatosc 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We'll see, feminists are already attacking the concepts like external uteruses - because its sexist and woman looses control of reproduction - guess why? :> because how dare men be able to decide to have an offspring on their own! Pussy must be in total control!

[–]edbro333 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If feminism is about equality of genders, why is it named only after one gender ?

As an aside, I have always had a thing for her

I don't get it, sorry.

Worse. It created at least three generations of inapproachable, emptyheaded, toxic, worthless bitches.

And in the long run, will fucking decimate our population.

This is why nobody takes you seriously. Stop fighting against women, and start fighting for each other.

[–]ShalamiTsunami 23 points24 points25 points 10 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

We aren't fighting against women. Feminism and women are two very different things.

[–]Mackowatosc 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If they support feminism, they are one.

On that same note, being for Men's Rights and being anti-feminist are two very different things too. It's a shame this sub has never been for the former.

[–]ShalamiTsunami 13 points14 points15 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I really don't think it is a shame. Feminism has proven itself incapable of coexisting with the MRM. There's a laundry list of shit that feminists have done to impede our progress and make life worse for men. Duluth Model, teach men not to rape, pulling fire alarms to disrupt meetings, NOW's opposition of custody reform....it just goes on and on. The single largest obstacle in our path, and the single biggest cause of current men's issues is Feminism.

There's a laundry list of shit that feminists have done to impede our progress and make life worse for men. Duluth Model...

Why would you care about the Duluth Model? Do you really think the Duluth Model, who's purpose is to protect women from domestic abuse, comes at the expense of male victims? If you really care so much about Men's Rights, where's your Duluth Model? What are your PSAs and models for protecting male victims?

teach men not to rape

Teaching men not to rape is impeding our progress? Wtf is wrong with you? I think you meant to say something along of the lines of, "Singling men out as the sole abusers and attributing women as the sole victims..."

pulling fire alarms to disrupt meetings

What feminists encourage this and/or practice this? The minority that this subreddit chooses to highlight? I've never seen that practice encouraged in any feminist/female subreddits on Reddit, and the public has a whole denounces that practice.

NOW's opposition of custody reform

Show me any case where NOW takes children away from a good father. Also, show me what these "Custody reforms" are. Are these the same custody reforms that will make judges turn a blind eye to the specific details to every unique custody case in favor of always splitting custody 50/50?

The single largest obstacle in our path, and the single biggest cause of current men's issues is Feminism.

Judging that plenty of Reddit opposes MR(coughantifeministcough) and that the MR community is a hilariously insignificant portion of the male population, I don't think you have the support you think you have to make that claim.

That's not a widespread problem. It's absolutely A problem men face, and lots of other similar problems, but it's far from widespread.

Of course it's something you should care about.

[–]ShalamiTsunami 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've never seen so much retardation in a single comment before.

It sounds nice to say that but it's uninformed. Feminism is a symptom of the problem. Addressing that problem would literally undermine the raison d'etre for feminism. That's why they fight us so vehemently. They might not consciously realize that but it's no coincidence that they dismiss any attempt to understand gender that contradicts their ideology.

K, so in your words, what is the most important reason for Feminism's existence?

[–]Yawz7z7 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

To empower women with as many advantages as possible. This was a good thing back when women were disadvantaged compared to men.

The thing is that feminism has always been about female empowerment, it has never been about equality between the sexes. Since women are no longer disadvantaged compared to their male counterparts, feminism has no place other than to further increase the disparity of rights into women's favor. This is why its a sexist movement.

The main difference between feminism and the MRM, is that the MRM has always been about true egalitarian equality. I've never once seen an MRA ask for anything more than to be on the same playing field.

So that's it? Because you think women collectively have it better then men, they don't have a right to bring awareness to the areas where they don't have it better then men? That's... Stupid.

That's exactly what feminists say. What exactly are you trying to convince me of?

I never said that, and that isn't what MRA's believe either.

At least in this subreddit, proper discourse on subjects that apply to women and/or men can take place. While an idea may be refuted, I don't know of any cases of that idea being silenced. In contrast its pretty easy to get banned from the feminism sub for trying to do the very same.

Just out of curiosity, where do you think women are in a disadvantageous position compared to their male counterparts?

I'm not trying to convince you of anything, look and see for yourself.

Sexual harassment on the streets and in the work place.

[–]Yawz7z7 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

A valid point as far as on the streets goes, I just had to buy pepper spray for my girlfriend who keeps getting harassed at the bus stop.

I dont feel women are disadvantaged when it comes to sexual harassment in the work place, there are systems in place. So much so that many companies have zero tolerance policies and even filing a complaint (whether or not its true, or a misunderstanding) can get people fired.

[–]AloysiusC 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The women are wonderful effect is probably the main reason. Both men and women are biased towards women. In any population where one half is considered more valuable by virtue of a birth characterstic, there will inevitably be something resembling feminism advocating for it.

The reason it claims to aim for things like equality and fairness is to justify it and reconcile it with people's conscience.

If you aren't aware of how the feminist movement and its institutions provide a huge barrier to mens rights then you havn't been paying attention.

[–]JerfFoo -5 points-4 points-3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

TIL that if I'm a guy who doesn't think the feminist movement is building a glass cage around me, I just haven't been paying attention. Yup, no possible way I could ever have a legit disagreement or different POV, I'm simply ignorant to the fact that men everywhere suffer and face the same exact challenges as every other man.

Ya got me.
