I never went on "first dates." My relationships generally followed the trajectory of meet dude in social setting (party etc.)>like dude>flirt with dude>make out with dude>keep running into/making out with dude>sleep with dude>dude is now my boyfriend.

There was a girl in my high school that smiled at me so i looked up her number in the phone book and asked her out (yes, i said phonebook). Can't even remember where we went (think it was too see Titanic at the movies)but she ended up being my high school sweetheart

This is a weird question for me to try to answer. I'm another one who didn't really do "first dates." I just met people I thought were neat, jumped into bed with them, and those interactions turned into relationships. Incidentally, this is how I met my husband.

I suppose I've had a good track record. I met my husband young and was very rarely single since the age of 15.

With a few exceptions, I exclusively use internet game. Not swipe apps but the more "traditional" path of having a profile and looking at theirs and swapping messages before you meet.

The conversion rate was astoundingly high in that most first dates ended up being my gf for a spell.

I met my wife online. I asked her to marry me the first time we met.

1 if that even counts (?) ... I went to the movies with a guy in high school thinking we would be going as a group and then it turned out to be a date. I did not have any romantic interest in him and if I had known that it was a date, I would have declined.

I met my husband online and we lived 3h apart so we chatted and skyped a lot before meeting. Our fist meeting in person wasn't really a date since we already decided to be in a relationship and I spent the entire weekend at his place.

Just got a new girlfriend almost two years to the day that my ex-wife asked for a divorce. In between I went on 9 first dates. Seems like a reasonable number.

I don’t “date”, in that I’ve only gone on a handful of formal “get to know you” meet ups. However, I’ve generally always been in one relationship or another. I usually end up in romantic encounters with artists or writers I’ve been collaborating with. There’s something about studying someone’s art that tells me a lot about that person.

Not much different with casual hookups. Met them at places like an acappella concerts, queer “adult swim” time at swimming pools, tabletop RPG’s. They all involved meeting multiple times and developing a good friendly rapport and good communication first. Because smart ONS’s screen for drama. No hard feelings when we went our separate ways after (that I know of.)

tl;dr I’ve never LTR’d with someone I classically dated. It happens more casually for me.

I mean, I was in several relationships before I met my fiancé I never really did formal dating where I went on an official “first date” with a stranger. My relationships have happened organically from people in my social circle.

I find this concept of dating a little bit weird, but this sounds like it's coming from the world of online dating, which is a lot more reasonable. Actually, that's the only way to date in online dating because very few people will literally just fuck you without knowing you for five minutes.

So if this is the case, you've got a lot of responses that don't actually portray the situation accurately because the question was worded poorly. If this is all in-person, like I've met these people socially and asked girls on 30 first dates, found someone, dated them and got dumped two months later...Jesus Christ. That is a poor track record.

I've only had two "dates" before I met my bf, the first one was when a boy in secondary school had asked me to go to the cinema with him, the second one was when I had asked my ex out. My bf and I had been friends before we started dating, so our dating phase was more like "hey, can I come over and hang out?".

I think I only went on maybe like 2-4? Unsure because maybe some guy was trying to go on a date with me and I might have just thought we were hanging out. The ones I mark explicitly as dates we just go to movies and hang out. I was a super awkward kid though and definitely fucked up a lot of them.

IDK, maybe 20, but only 2 second dates, but my family kept soft-setting me up with nice boys from church/friends before I announced my atheism/agnosticism at 15 so YMMV.

In terms of bfs, I've had 2, one was a date then relationship, the other was get to know each other, hang out in a group a lot, discuss with friend then date and I've been with him since I was 16 so...

the idea of asking someone to dinner + movie seems so bland and forced...we sorta just hung out with friends as friends for a while and then i asked her to start a band as an excuse to hang out with her more. i guess the first time playing music together in the college piano room was the one and only date

2 with him until we got into an LTR. Met him off online dating and he was the only guy I went out with. I tend to fall for people quickly, which is probably a bad thing, but it worked out this time.

Before that, when I was in college or earlier, it was meet guy in some setting -> hang out with guy with other people -> "hey I think I like you" -> kiss -> LTR. It was a more innocent time.

On the broadest definition for "first date" it's quite above 30. On the narrowest, "only counts if you were interested in her even if you weren't to have sex and wanted to know her better", should be 5 tops.
