I don't think there is a (significant) gender pay gap, but as you said in another comment, people who work X hours a week should be able to afford basic necessities. The pay gap that I see is in female-dominated fields like aged care, disability care, child care. This skews the dynamic so that people who work in those fields, while essential, are paid shit.

My (not researched, just hypothesised) idea is that these are low paying fields because in the past these tasks were unpaid, usually by female family members who didn't need to work. Now that we need two incomes to get a house, these jobs that for whatever reason (social conditioning, biological I don't care) have a much higher percentage of female workers, people still don't think that it should take that much of their money because it's something that used to be free, and they're struggling as it is.

And we have corporations preying on people who cannot go without these services to the detriment of the clients, their families and taxpayers. Fuck that noise.

People who obtain more valuable skills (and use them) get paid more.

People who can manage other people get paid more.

People who show up on time get paid more.

People who produce more get paid more.

People who take on more risk (successfully) get paid more.

There is no "pay gap".

Yeah, the problem with the gap isn't that it doesn't exist. The issue is when they try to explain why does it exist. I mean, if you compare people with blue eyes vs people with brown eyes, there will be some gap, or if you compare tall vs short people, there will be a gap. Does this mean that the tall blue eyed people oppress the brown eyed short people? It sounds ridiculous isn't it? For some reason its not so ridiculous when you compare women vs. men even though the method is exactly the same.

The wage gap is not the only one item in the arsenal. You can often see claims here like "men dont care (as much) about children as women do", or "men do not share household chores equally" and stuff like this. Thing is, their numbers are usually correct, but their reasoning is always flawed. Instead of looking thoroughly into why, they just assume that it's because men are flawed. It's because of patriarchy and oppression...

Now imagine what all this causes on the dating market and how does it effect intersexual relationships in general, especially when this ideology is corrupting a whole bunch of children from elementary school.

I find it particularly amusing when women complain about wage gap, knowing full well that women tend to marry guys at least on the same but preferably higher socioeconomic level, rarely lower.

Edit: Also they do not seem to complain about the fact that regardless of who makes more money on avarage, women spend or decide how to spend 80% of it.

I’ve worked in manufacturing now for 14 years. It’s heavily male dominated.

I have never seen a women paid less for the same job.

But overall women do gravitate towards certain positions that do pay less. But in those positions the males are paid less too.

I think the wage gap is bullshit. There may be a few shit companies few and far between, but it’s cheaper to not have a lawsuit and negative limelight.

We have to deal with regulatory audits that look over pay and our workforce. We have customers that audit this data too. My industry isn’t unique.

I’d like to point out the article says 22 out of 250 cities young women out earn young men. The article says pay gap still exists but is closing.

The main origin of the gender wage gap is motherhood. The fact that childless young women are making a little more money than childless young men in a few select cities doesn’t change that having children is typically a blow to a woman’s earnings in a way it isn’t to a man’s.

As an employer that has had four hundred plus employees I noticed a few things. Obviously these are generalizations and there are outliers and one off situations.

Men and single moms treat their career differently than married women. 2: Married women whose husband is successful are the least driven and most entitled. They almost wish they were fired.
Men put in more hours and use less PTO.
Men push for more money. They want reviews, bonus’, etc. They are harder to manage at times because they demand more.
Women are much more distracted and get drawn into petty stuff. Fights over the thermostat, portable heaters under the desk, company birthday parties, decorating offices, socializing, walking groups on every scheduled break, etc. Men mostly keep their heads down and work.
Men are more task oriented. Men Systemize. Women Empathize. When I do online tracking of production the men are cranking out more work product. Like twice as much. It is what it is,

Since this started it was never an objective exercise to diagnose a problem or answer if there even was a problem. It was presented as a problem in order to just to push a political agenda. One side switched from median to mean and amped up any disparity even in an isolated area that did not influence the trend overall and continued to heap lie on-top of lie.

As much as it was about pay it was also about prestige and power so high status and comfortable jobs were looked at and low status / dangerous and uncomfortable (but high paying) jobs were ignored. No one wanted to to consider that for instance, in mate selection women consistently reward higher ranking men which lead men to compete fiercely with one another which lead to an inevitable dominance of men in high ranking positions not only amongst us socialised humans but in thousands of mammalian species across the animal kingdom at all stages of evolution.

The main reason this has taken root in the face of all the serious study and common sense to the contrary can be explained by one important statistic not relating to pay but not too peripheral: Women control over eighty percent of the SPENDING power. That is all you need to understand why media, government and corporate push the “woman’s” agenda regardless of the truth.

It’s bizarre that feminists having won on corporate quotas and redistribution of power and high paid positions will also bemoan the lack of “viable” (high paid / high status) men there are to marry and wonder why their own status and pay is no good to them in the sexual marketplace. Similarly the feminists who still insist there is a pay gap which is solely from gender discrimination and not female choice try to push more women into studying STEM.

Gender pay gap is one of the stupidest thing ever and it is no surprise that many women believe it. It is another instance of apex fallacy. Women don't see the jobs where men are paid poorly, or the jobs where skills are scarce, or when the job is dangerous, or the daily grind is torturing and exhausting, all they see is that the sum total of men outearn women. It is a disgusting and toxic mindset. Glad these women identify with a name(feminist) so you can avoid them.

How about the productivity gap? Women I've worked with do 50% the actual work men do. Meanwhile, feminism has encouraged hiring more women in roles best done by men. What about janitors? garbagemen? No... feminism only cares about jobs with air conditioning and cushy chairs. Men do all the work. Not just meetings or planning or "teambuilding".... actually making things happen.

Look around the room you are in, find top 10 things you couldnt live without. Every single one of them... invented by men.

Should men be paid more across the board?

Again, you seem to have not understood the article. Men are still outearning women on average. The geographical distribution of men and women is such that in a small number of cities, women outearn men.

When people discuss the pay gap they cite a study that focuses on one variable. When you take other variables into account that gap dissipates.

IIRC it doesn't disappear entirely, but shrinks to something like 5%. Either way, the argument isn't just "women are paid less for the exact same job", the argument is that those "other variables" are influenced by sexism and those are the problems that need to be addressed.

For example, you can say "men earn more because they work more hours", but we have to consider WHY women work less hours than men. Often because women are expected to do the bulk of the domestic labor and this cuts into their potential working hours. Or "men have more senior job titles" - how much of this is due to discrimination in promotion?

Gender pay gap is is a pathetic BS, pushed by "Feminists" that was debunked decades ago.

Earning gap is real, but it's not "different money payed for doing... THE SAME job".

However, driven by the need TO FILL THE QUOTAS US has created artificial shortage of specifically FEMALE workforce, raising their salaries vs the other gender FOR THE SAME JOB.

What about the wealth gap? A bit of a side discussion. I had a chat with someone who said we have just experienced the biggest wealth transfer from men to women. Men spend money on women. while women earn money for themselves. Women get men's money in divorce etc,etc.

I did a Google and was wrong. Women's Wealth Gap, U.S. women own just $0.32 for every $1 a man owns.

Well, the pay gap based on gender, if it exists, is very small. So we are now into the details.

And at a fine resolution, perhaps the gap can never be proven to have gone away since it is hard to compare jobs at such high resolution. I mean the pay gap could end up the other way. It is hard to ever be perfectly equal.

National averages aren't very useful in pay studies, just like in real estate. The pay gap is often talked about in Silicon Valley. Show me one, just one, tech job, say Programmer Level I, where the starting salary is different based upon gender.

I am not from the US, so my view may not work for the US for 100%.

In Germany we differ between two different kind of gender pay gaps, the "adjusted pay gap" and the "unadjusted pay gap".

The adjusted compares the pay between men and women with equal jobs, hours and experience. In Germany that gap is between 2-7%. So something between "not too bad" and "noticeable". But in general it could be explained by less aggressive negotiation skills or that women tend to undersell themselves.

The unadjusted pay gap is more interesting and is about 20%. The unadjusted simply compares the pay between women and men, no matter the profession or the hours they work.

It's also rather easy to explain why there is such a large gap: Women stay at home with the children, many only work part time when the children are old enough and they choose lower paying jobs in general.

Now that's "fair", you work less or choose jobs that don't pay well, but that simply shows a different problem: They are more dependent on a working partner and they have a higher risk for a too low pension.

Women are mainly responsible for childcare whether they are married or not. Since women are usually tasked with school drop off and pick up, dealing with the children when sick, and school days off, they are usually taking less risk jobs, part time jobs, and jobs within school hours. They’re also less likely to be promoted because of it.

The gender wage gap isn’t because people are deciding to paying men and women differently, it’s because if you have children or anyone that you are a care taker of (which women typically are caretakers) your income potential is capped.

Sexual harassment at work would also cause women to leave jobs instead of staying and trying to move up the ladder.
