I see an awful lot of discussion and hand wringing over relationships, marriage, sex, love, companionship, expectations, phenomenon and aberrations in regards to a dating market that is transient, transactional and commoditized,

I am fascinated by the evolution of socialization in terms of dating and mating. At the same time I don’t really participate in it anymore as a conscientious decision.

I am actually very happy being single. I enjoy my freedom. I enjoy a life without concessions or compromise. And believe it or not companionship is not the be-all/end-all of the human condition.

Particularly for men. In older times men found satisfaction in being explorers, soldiers, miners, surveyors, trappers and a whole list of occupations and preoccupations that took them outside of society and into the frontiers of nature where they were tested and learned what they were made of.

It was only during the 20th century when the nuclear family became the benchmark and a bulwark of the industrial revolution in the cities and was a social model evolved out of agricultural and egalitarian societies.

A relationship is a lot of hard work, and too many of us no longer have the social skills or the wherewithal to stick it out. Out of frustration men cheat, women monkey branch and children are left to their own electronic devices and vices.

Do you think this should be the ultimate goal and the be-all end-all of the human condition?

Not everyone has the right wiring to tolerate cohabitation and marriage. Not every adult is capable of raising a child in a decent environment. And not everyone should assume that one size fits all because it doesn’t.

If you’re single and frustrated I am telling you that not only is there meaning beyond companionship but for some there is greater purpose within this meaning. And even for those who don’t know and have your health and a roof over your head?

Count your blessings because you could be dead. Even the shiftiest blues song is better than death because someone actually woke up this morning.

Do you really need attention and validation to feel valuable? Why?

And what is truly wrong with living and independent and uncomplicated life as a single person?
